To the great minds here: about the Census

This is her experience:
It's 7:00 pm and I just had the government at my front door. She said she was from the Federal Census, asked my husband what our address is, if this was a single family dwelling, then backed out far enough from the front door to be under the sky and GPS'ed our front door.
My son, his family and my daughter and her family, live down the same lane and she went to their houses too???
I really don't know what to think??? Has anyone else had this happen to them??? Isn't the census in 2010???
Then the next census website turned up in my searches.

Isn't the census a means on checking on just about everything, isn't this 'check-up' ahead of the official census in 2010 a little strange???
Careful - the census is Constitutional
If you claim to be a Constitutionalist - then the census is required. But then again, we don't use the Constitution anymore.
HOWEVER---The census was based on the Constitutional tax system of the federal budget being apportioned by state population. So, since the tax system has been taken over by the FED and is a direct and unapportioned tax - there really is no need for a census.
Perhaps that is our defense tactic - refuse to participate in the census unless the IRS goes away.... Maybe even a media campaign to let people know they are not required to participate now that our wages are stolen from us (on days like today).

So tell me, where did the founding fathers call for collection of such information as is called for on the current census?
And more fundamentally, tell me, where did I sign the US Constitution and what allows you to force me to abide by it if I didn't?
Lastly, assuming that we're somehow bound to the US Constitution, do you realize that it's a document written to LIMIT THE POWERS OF GOVERNMENT not to dictate and restrict the RIGHTS OF THE PEOPLE?

I applied
and got a letter stating my name was on a FBI criminal list. Even though only checked by name and it may not pertain to me I would have to be fingerprinted and prove it was not me if I wanted to continue to seek employment but there was no guarantee of employment. I was going to do it knowing I don't have a criminal record but decided I was not going to the time ,exspense, or give them my prints. If they are going to do a criminal backround check they should use more than name only. They have all of your info on your application. I guess everyone with a common name will have to go through this.
When I found out the cencus was being moved from the commerce dept. to the white house and was partnerng with ACORN that just solidified my decision
But it is not unusual at all to be getting visits, forms, calls ect. a this time.
I did the census in 1990 and 2000. They start before the actual year. There are many phases and preparations. I started in 1999 for the 2000. maps have to be corrected,addressed added. All kinds of stuff. I've worked many phases in the office and the field.
Warning. Depending on where you are field work can be very hard on your car. I won't do it again.
I won't answer all questions on the form either.

Wow! Just thinking about the possible reasons. Talk about Big Brother. Scary stuff.
Happened to me a few days
Happened to me a few days ago. She said they were just "double-checking addresses". I was wondering, what info MUST I give to the census people when they come?
I still do no know what I am going to do...
I have received 2 of their nosy questionairre booklets, and 2 telephone calls asking me if I have received the booklet and if I will be sending in. I want to just fill out my name and address and send the darn thing in and hopefully that will settle it.
Anyone have any advice?

This is going on in my area. This is actually my job starting today.
I would say the press release sums it up pretty well.
fyi - you may actually have people come to your house twice, because there is someone who initially does the gps, and then there is a different person, like me, who comes by to double-check their work.
The point is to get a current listing of all addresses so they know who to send the questionairre next year. If you don't want to deal with them just don't answer the door. the gps will still be done regardless.
I also wanted to mention that all these people are temporary workers.
We are just regular people, not evil govt. trolls. Many people have been laid off and are just trying to make ends meet (one in my group was laid off after 15 years of work). Some are retirees. Some are substitute teachers. Personally, I have been out of work for a long time due to health problems and trying to get back on my feet.
I have a question
Will you employ threats to coerce the individuals you encounter who won't 'volunteer' the information you've been sent to collect?

Individuality
The reason I'm a libertarian is because I got sick of being judged by people like you who vote. Instead of understanding that people need jobs, and make sacrifices for their families, you assume that because someone works for the census, they must be out to get you.
Obviously, this is rarely true. Most people who work for the government are patriotic, need a job, want to help people, or want to change it from within. Your comment is similar to saying that Congress should be fired.

The collection of personal
The collection of personal information by any real or pseudo-government agency is a violation of right to privacy - unless given voluntarily - which is a waiver of those rights.
Paperwork Reduction Act: "Respondents should be aware that notwithstanding any other provision of law, no person shall be subject to any penalty for failing to comply with a collection of information if it does not display a valid OMB control number."
They already have all the information for any reasonable contingency. The door to door FACT CHECKING is a verification of portions of that data already in hand. There is a strategy in data collection whereby information is periodically FACT CHECKED. For instance the periodic reissuance of the pseudo driver's license/ID/tracking documents which include an updated photo. Also the periodic reissuance of ATM or debit cards activated via the nearest ATM station where your photo is again taken. The collection of your personal data (invasion of your rights to privacy) by the pseudo-government never stops and is apparently without limits.

For those paranoid about GPS, get real. You don't think the government already knows where you live? You send in taxes. These have your address. You have a job. They have your address. You get mail delivered to your house, Oh the mail is a government office.
Think about it, If the government really wanted your address, all they would have to do is type in your number (social security that is) at a computer terminal. Then all they have to do is type in your address to google maps on their blackberrys, and they will get step by step directions to show up at your doorstep. give me a break.

I am questioning it alright, no worries
I am just not as scared by it as the lady who had the actual visit.
Paranoia and questioning, although a very fine line, have the difference of questioning with fear and questioning to feel more empowered by a possible answer.
I just tell them it is
I just tell them it is against my religion to be enumerated and to get off the property, and I don't answer any questions. If you are rural and have gates close the gates keep them locked and put up no trespassing signs and add including government officials.

Well...
It takes a loooong time to visit EVERY household in the country. So it isn't really ahead of schedule.
I like the idea of the census because all of the statistics are made publicly available. That being said, human beings are too shitty to be trusted with it, and so I don't cooperate with them. I don't answer my front door for anyone. Anyone who I care to see knows enough to go to the back door.
