!! Digg It !!

From the Lew Rockwell Blog:

Read Will Grigg's accompanying commentary on the purpose of the border patrol.

Sickening. Is this still America? Was it ever?

Short Fuse

Those youtubes are clearly demonstrative of the pastor's short fuse and make him a less sympathetic victim. That's too bad, because what happened to him was wrong.
From what I understand of the incident as he related it in the video, he was acting within his rights up until the point where he was told that the canine alert on his vehicle gave border patrol sufficient reason to search his car without either his permission or a warrant. His refusal to let them search was what led them to remove him from the vehicle by force. (Even if they lied about the canine alert). If they broke the law (by lying about the cause for the search), he could have followed up with a civil lawsuit or complain and seek to obtain any video evidence indicating the dog did not indeed alert. It will be interesting to see where his case leads and if video evidence corroborates his version of events. Regardless, the level of force used by the officers to remove him from his vehicle sounded way too excessive. They need to experience some justice for their behavior.

Disagreed. He's Much More Widely Effective Exactly How He Did it

By not backing down at all.

If he was merely trying to pursue a civil case claiming the dog never alerted, you wouldn't even know about him, and it would go nowhere. It would have been an entirely wasted effort, except for his own personal highly unlikely case of trying to prove the dog did not alert.

As a result of his steadfastness and determination, and the resulting abuse at the hands of the agents, hundreds of thousands of people are now becoming exposed to the situation due to the freedom of information on the Internet.

If he would have given in at any point, his case would not be any more significant than thousands of others.

Ron Paul's Convention Speech

Good analysis

The border patrol/cops cannot dream up reasons to act as a police state. That is what citizens are standing against. These two (or is it the same man?) are actually standing for the Constitution and I think they should clearly state that in their argument when they face these circumstances.

There is a definite failure to communicate going on between the people and the enforcement. Things need to be totally cleared up about what rights the enforcers have and what rights the people have.

Sure these guys could have cooperated and not been detained, BUT that does nothing to put a check on abuse of power towards our Constitution. These men were not objecting FOR themselves but FOR the defense of our Constitution and it would serve them well to state as much clearly.

He's not the icon that Ron Paul is.....

and he walked/played into an ambush today... (sigh.) Christians are just frustrated human beings too..... I ought to know. Blessings to all.... and pray for Steve..... he and his family are going to need it after this.

Disagreed. He's Admirable For Not Putting Up With Anyone's Crap

Including clueless callers.

That caller was trying to say that according to the Bible, everyone should do as their government says, and therefore the pastor should have done as the border agents said.

What total bull.

And the host is a wimp, who thinks people should not "scream" about their rights being violated. Then the host admits that he was trying to trap the pastor into becoming angry -- so you could call the host a passive aggressive wuss.

Ron Paul's Convention Speech

What time in which video was

What time in which video was the "ambush?"

...

sounds like it is time...

to get a CONVOY together

25 cars ought to be more than enough to make them understand and let the Constitution prevail.

don't forget to bring video cameras to save the event for posterity

WTF are

Border Patrol Agents doing harassing people driving down the highway? This whole thing just blows my mind.

I am curious about what happened at his arraignment.

BUMP for personal liberty and presumption of innocence.

h-daddy

WTF Are Border Agents Doing Harrassing America Away From Border?

Very well summarized.

If you consider the simple reality of what is really happening it's absurd.

Ron Paul's Convention Speech

I think...

It's all about "contempt of cop."

Off Topic

Does this guy remind anyone else of Jack Sheperd?

Yep!

Big time look-a-like! LOL

The pastor knew exactly

what he was doing and why, and he did a good job. He was not confrontational, he was just not being all metrosexual.

I sympathise with him on some level.

I believe he has good intentions. That he believes deeply in what he is saying and has made the decision at some inner level to be a "martyr" for a "higher cause" and this is the deep inner motivation for the irrational stand to refuse to simply tell the officers what he did for a living or any information at all.

When I was young like him I made similar choices to "confront" perceived injustices in this way. He has a lot of Zeal that just needs a little Tempering. Maybe this is the tempering he needed and will learn from it and do great things.

It is pretty clear that society in general agrees that Homeland Security Checkpoints have de-facto search warrants.

His "vibration" from his belief system set off resonance. Anger breeds anger, distrust , distrust. The Event became a ever increasing spiral of negative emotional energy.

The training of the officers , which is to be detectives has as a foundation "distrust" and verification. It is a skill and they use those skills to protect us. This is not a debate about the need or lack thereof for these checkpoints.

I am not a Christian but I do believe Jesus would say the same thing that he said to Peter when he wanted Jesus to call down fire on a city that didn't well recieve the teachings of the traveling Rabbi.
"You don't know what spirit you are of."

The man is young and has a lot of ZEAL. And that is worthy of respect.
I would pray that he would channel it in a more positive manner.

As it is said of Wisdom..
"All HER ways are pleasant and all her paths are peaceful. "

I would advise this young man that he has largely made his point and shown his commitment. He should do his best to go resolve this issue as quickly and peacefully as possible and keep the cost of his self inflicted martyrdom as low as possible. He has a wife and children to think about.
He should pursue PEACE.

Darkai Shalom...
The Way of Peace...
The Ultimate Marshal Art.

When the World is at Peace and the Law is written on every mans heart the idea of a checkpoint is SILLY.

Shalom.

Revisit the Constitution.

Revisit the Constitution. There is absolutely no authority to violate people's right to privacy and impede their free passage within the United States.

Martyr for a higher cause?

Deep inner motivation for the irrational stand to refuse to simply tell the officers what he did for a living or any information at all?

NO! He did the right thing. People who get chatty with the cops can have any innocent statement turned against them. Never talk to cops without your lawyer present. Cops are trained on how to take advantage of clueless people, and they will, and the pastor knew what they were doing. Where he worked was none of the agent's business, and he was right to not reply. "Name, rank, and serial number" is all anyone has any business talking to a cop about. Check out the ACLU's video on how to handle traffic stops.

The cop's sadism stands in stark contrast to the pastor's excellent, peaceful behavior.

If we don't stand up for our rights, we don't have any. It's as simple as that.

Doing Nothing Would Have Resulted in Nothing.

All He Did Was Verbally Defend Himself - He Used No Force

I would call that pretty peaceful.

He did the right thing, and I hope he is able to take his lawsuit all the way to the Supreme Court and finds people that are willing to represent him and support him.

He alone could end checkpoints, just by being the one that finally took a stand and was willing to fight. Many things have been changed by only a few men that have been willing to take a stand.

Ron Paul's Convention Speech

Yep

This guy is arrogant and confrontational for sure! There is an audio clip of another encounter that proves it. It is not right what the border patrol is doing but neither is it right what this guy is doing. That being said, the officers should know how to handle themselves better when they are being egged on by people like this. Bad on them for that.

You Hit the Nail on the Head

Our sentiments exactly, Prairiemae. If that video had been the first and only confrontation that this man had experienced (which is what my husband and I thought at first), then, yeah....wow...what a thing to happen...BUT, that is not the case. I would encourage any of you who have only seen this one video, to dig a little deeper.

This is an important issue in our nation today and many people are extremely ignorant of the Constitution and of the proper place for government and police. It behooves those of us who have some understanding of this to educate others and such tactics as this "pastor" has engaged in are not helpful to our cause.

Geeze louise,

it was the agents who were arrogant and confrontational.

I have also seen several videos of the pastor, and what I see is a man who is trained on how to behave at traffic stops. American men are so used to being ignorant wusses that a man who stands up on his hind legs and does the right thing is demonized.

Why shouldn't we be confrontational when our rights are trampled

That's called standing up for yourself and what is right.

Good grief.

We need more people standing up for their rights!

Ron Paul's Convention Speech

this is america.

i have the freedom to be arrogant and confrontational.

so what wasnt right?

How he is going about this

How he is going about this is wrong. All I can say is find this guys other "confrontations" and look up his website then you can more acurrately "judge" him.

What are you doing on the Daily Paul?

Who cares what his attitude is? They are public SERVANTS. If he is not breaking the law, which he wasn't because he didn't get charged with anything that will stand up in court, then he can act however he wants within reason. Obviously you can't challenge peace officers to fights or threaten them physically, but being a dick, especially when you know the kind of police state crap federal agents pull, is well within your Constitutional rights. Ad hominem attacks on the person are irrelevant.

"The casualty of partisanship is objectivity."

You didn't like his tone of voice?

Why judge him? Should we judge everything you do or have done in your life?

Or should we focus on the important things you do?

Ron Paul's Convention Speech

This American Did What All Freedom Loving Americans Must Do

It is only because the government has become so used to nobody fighting back or standing up for our rights that the government has become so used to violating our rights on a daily basis.

The pastor is a great American and a good example.

Those complaining he did anything wrong are a part of the problem and do not deserve freedom.

If everyone resisted illegal searches, the government would be forced to remove these suspicionless checkpoints within America.

The more people involved, the more people would pressure the government.

Ron Paul's Convention Speech

La Raza...

...surely heartily approves of this campaign against the Border Patrol.

Nothing

This has NOTHING whatsoever to do with secure borders.
This is about warrantless/suspicionless checkpoints 100 miles inland from
those undefended/unsecured borders.....
This is about deliberately ALLOWING the borders to be permeable to feign the excuse for the NEED to set up these encroachments to OUR liberties.

Using the La Raza argument to "shame" us into the straw man ploy of the right/left paradigm thinking is no longer working on the Red Pill folks that inhabit this forum..... get rid of it or take it to a God Bless America/NeoCon site. It won't work here..... move along.
