Last Call for HR 1207

This is a reminder of the importance of this End The Fed rally and important public outreach.

Ron Paul's legislation HR 1207, The Federal Reserve Transparency Act, is gaining support. HR 1207 has real potential to pass -- BUT only if we educate and rally the people to support it and get our congress animals to put it to vote and pass it. I can't stress enough the importance of this.

HR 1207 will open the Fed to transparency, which it has not had since its creation. We must not miss this opportunity.

It is now in the House Committee on Financial Services. This is THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP in this legislation!! If it doesn't get out of committee it will not come to a vote!! There are 71 members on this committee.

We need to let them know that we want them to allow full house consideration of HR 1207 so it can move forward; we need them to support this. Now is the time.

Call their offices, write to them, email them, etc. Let them know they need to support HR 1207. If you live in their district, let them know. Go to their office.

See the full list of committee members here: http://www.govtrack.us/congress/committee.xpd?id=HSBA

Help with this all important public outreach. NOW REALLY IS THE TIME!

Yesterday I got a letter from my rep.

We’ve been “corresponding” since 1207 was introduced. His letters are usually poorly worded. But at least he’s thinking about it.

Senate version of hr 1207 has been introduced.

The bill is called "S 604" or "Federal Reserve Sunshine Act of 2009"

It has been introduced by Sen. Bernard Sanders [I-VT]

Here text of the bill
http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c111:S.604:
It looks like the exact same text of hr 1207

Add Indiana Congressman Mike

Add Indiana Congressman Mike Pence (R) to the list. His office confirmed his support of this bill and has already signed on as a co-sponsor. News will be released soon to verify the results. :)

The ranking member Spencer

The ranking member Spencer Bachus' district is pretty close to the Mises Institute in Alabama. He should visit and learn some economics.

Actually this bill was just

Actually this bill was just introduced in February. He has other Fed bills that will die in committee soon. He has introduced bills to fight the Fed over many years, and I believe they have never made it out of committee. Usually 0 to 2 cosponsors. HR 1207 to audit The Fed is at 55 cosponsors but holding steady after a sharp rise (the 58 cosponsors reported by some sites may be a clerical error). However, only a fraction of them are on the House Committee on Financial Services (71 members) where it is being considered. Most bills die in committee, so if your Rep is on this list, please remind him to cosponsor HR 1207 to audit the Fed.

We all can and should

We all can and should bombard the committee with correspondence regardless of which district we live in.

I'm doing Bachus through Capuano...

What the devil is it with email? A lot of these people don't want them except from constituents. I'm doing snailmail letters. I did see a hint on a few websites to mail to local offices rather than DC because of the delay with irradiating the letters before opening them.

Only one person in the first ten even wanted a non-constituent email, Judy Biggert of IL. I'm going to check harder first before dropping letters in the mail, though.

My kids are off from school and this sort of thing is so HARD to do with them underfoot. So can somebody else step up to the plate too, please?

BTW I didn't bother with Barney Frank. Or should I?

Most members of the House

Most members of the House don't accept e-mails from non-constituents (though in the Senate you can usually e-mail most anyone regardless of where you live). That's why when I write members of the House outside of my district, I tend to use fax rather than e-mail.

I Crunched the Numbers...

It is essential that all of these non-cosponsors listed above be heavily lobbied to support the bill, or there is a good chance HR 1207 will never make it out of the committee. The most pressure should be placed on the Republican ranking member, Spencer Bachus. If you can get him to support the bill, most of the other Republican members will probably vote along party lines and support as well. For the Democrats, pressure them all, but give an extra effort for chairman Barney Frank. Frank may be a lost cause, but who knows.

Thanks for the info...

I'll do Barney Frank too, though I can't believe there's anything I can say that would change his mind.

The letter to Bachus is already in the mail. If anyone reading this doesn't have time to do a letter, try a phone call. I would rather do a letter because I am just dreadful at phone calls.

I noticed Ron Paul and Michelle Bachmann are both on the list.

Good for her

Bachmann's my former Rep, so good for her on this, but too bad she's also a big fan of the Patriot Act and most warrantless spying in general.

Give her time.........

she'll lean more and more the right direction with Ron Paul around her.

I handed out almost 1,000

I handed out almost 1,000 flyers about HR1207 at the Tea Party here in Oklahoma. People seemed to be behind it.

No transparency since it's creation?

According to Dr. Paul: "In 1950 the law was changed and it exempted the Federal Reserve from any auditing procedures, and they have run wild since then."

He's also said they have

He's also said they have never had a real audit. I know of one audit he told of where they managed to fenagle it so it was just an audit of such things as how many pencils they used, but I don't know when it occured.

Just emailed 3 reps on the committee.

Which 3 did you do?

I'm willing to write also. If we divvy up the list I bet we can cover them all.
