Went to the feed store & couldn't help myself....
They had baby geese and as I tried to walk past them one jumped up & started squakin at me. Needless to say he/she and another one came home w/me. Tried to put them in the cage w/the 5 week old chicks but they just wanted to peck the babies.
Graduated the chicks to the greenhouse floor & put the geese in where the chicks used to live. Everyone is happy.... the laying hens come wandering over to the greenhouse and peek in thru the wire door to visit.
I hope to simply add the 5 week olds to the layers coop soon. With my luck they wont get along and we'll be doing an addition on the existing coop... maybe a 2nd story. Yup chicks are the coolest!
But the geese....... are the most cuddly and affectionate little creatures and SOFT.... unless as they grow up they change, they already know me and jump up for me to pick them up. I call them Jefffrie & Effrie lol I'm thinking a baby goat next.
Somehow I think those chickens will live to a ripe old age.

We have been able
to get 11 hens and a rooster thus far.
We are getting quite a few eggs a day...at least half a dozen sometimes more.
We are looking at getting some red meat birds (instead of the white cornish rock cross ie: franken-chickens) because they take a little longer to mature and we have been told by someone that gets them both that the red ones are better (as far as flavor goes).
Just gotta have the funds to do so.
We also got two Great Pyrenees to protect them out here. We have a 7 month old female and had a 12 week old male. Came home to find he had gotten out the other night and had been killed in front of our house. :( The kids were devastated but I can't replace him until some money gets flowing.
We did manage to get two that lay blue eggs (the Americaunas)! And I have one Maran that lays DARK eggs. Those are always fun to find in the nesting box.

I can tell you've gotten kinda close to those chickens. I would be afraid I would get too close and not want to eat them if the time came.

Long story with alot of cuss words.
Basically injured it, had to have surgery,got an infection in the hospital,had to do it OVER again, got another infection, been fighting it since shortly after the primaries.
Hospitals can kill you if you aren't paying attention.

Very slow process.
Infection is now in the bone, so I am facing either several weeks of IV anti-biotics, or possibly losing my leg.
It has taught me to take life 5 minutes at a time, a hard lesson for someone like me.
