100 miles from the border: Do you live in a Constitution-free zone?
Submitted by Michael Nystrom on Fri, 04/17/2009 - 10:57
Using data provided by the U.S. Census Bureau, the ACLU has determined that nearly 2/3 of the entire US population (197.4 million people) live within 100 miles of the US land and coastal borders.
The government is assuming extraordinary powers to stop and search individuals within this zone. This is not just about the border: This "Constitution-Free Zone" includes most of the nation's largest metropolitan areas.
Do you live in a Constitution-free zone?
»

I think
this is B.S. Who the hell determined these were the zones?? The ACLU?? So, basically, if a cop pulls me over in one of these "zones" he has a right to search my car without probably cause?? I call B.S.
Conspiracy?
It's hard to distinguish conspiracy from grown-up high-school bullies who get their jollies from asserting their power because they know at heart that they are totally impotent, incompetent human beings. One of the best things about college is that you're not around bozos like this anymore, you go to college and they become border security officers.
Timely post
Because of the two new incidents on the border, I was going to look this up and figure out what they can legally do to search at the border. Thanks, gonna go study now.
This orange line looks wider than 100 miles--is it just me?
because I live in NW South Carolina
does that mean Im free?
Classical conditioning.
They want to condition you to not assert your rights and to be an obedient piece of meat.
And make sure that doesn't work, because once you let them break in once, you'll let them do it again out of fear and the "why not" reason.
Take a stand.
When you put it like that...wow.

The entire state of New Jersey is a Constitution free zone.
Wanting it both ways-
This is very interesting, but I'd want to check into it more before becoming too alarmed. For one- is the federal government's reach only confined to the land boundaries of the states? I mean, what's the deal with the 24-mile territorial + contiguous limit into coastal waters for? (not to mention the 200-mile limit before the "international waters" kicks in.) That would mean the boundaries on this map from the ACLU would need to be redrawn. Right? or am I missing something here?
I haven't had time to dig into the ACLU's sources for this claim, but wouldn't any ruling regarding "borders" include the "territorial waters" surrounding our nation (coastal states), AND the freshwater tributaries... Hey, blame the UN!
So, which is it: Do they just prefer to stop normal folk driving to & from on land, or are they actually serious about preventing criminals and drugs from coming into our country via the coastal waters? 'Cause I can name several places where drugs, criminals, and you-name-it can come in free & clear on L.I. sound...
Living within the Constitutional lines....
Sweet!!! Im safe here for now in the Heart of it All.

I thought I was in a pretty safe place uphere in NE WI for when the SHTF.

I'm in a constitution free zone
In Ct about 20 miles from the coast. Sleepy stupid little town........and months back, passing through a 4 corners area of the next town over, there were 2 border police cars ,4 jackboots, eyeing suspiciously every car in the intersection. Wrong place, wrong time.......hub and I were wtf? Never saw that before. It won't be long before it's our turn to be pulled over. How do I assert my rights, with a 5 yr old in the car, and expect decent treatment?

Irony
CT is wholly included, yet it is "The Constitution State"
Constitution State
What a joke. It has no place here. I can't wait to leave. But to where?

You can bet the farm
that Michael Chertoff and DHS is behind all of this. Of course Bush set that department up but Obama seems to think it was a grand idea.
Just can't get over how a dual Israel/American citizen can be in charge of our own borders. No other dual citizens in this country have that kind of power. Why him?

Israel's wall
More people should come to the idea that I slowly came to recognize, that Israel seems to be a predominately racist state, practicing an insidious form of apartheid. Neoconservatives like to use the wall in Israel as an example of effective border control.

Don't they?
How about Rahm Emmanuel?
AKA, Obama's "string puller" who calls pretty much EVERY shot that this administration commits, IS a dual citizen Israel/US.
In fact, he's well-known as a rabid-dog zionist, with an iron fist.
Yeah
I was eluding to the fact that no other dual citizens other than Israel/American dual citizens are allowed that kind of power. Shoulda said "them" instead of "he".

Although I applaud the ACLU
Although I applaud the ACLU for fighting for individuals' civi liberties, I will never stand by the ACLU and support it. They are anti-religion, pro-affirmative action Liberal Democrats.
Liberal Democrats?
How about Facist Communists?

the differnce is? lol
Next it will be any interstate highway...
...that could potentially lead to a border.
Then any secondary road that links to a major highway.
Then, after we're all used to seeing armed roadblocks everywhere, county road and local roads.

Thanks Michael for the post
Thanks for the post. I checked out the ACLU site, it has much more to offer, and is a very credible organization. It never ceases to amaze me how much new information Daily Paul brings in to this group.
Are we really plunging this fast, or is it now, that we are getting extremely good at finding the implosion centers? with professional accuracy?
Regardless, I encourage all to take time to study this issue, perhaps it will give us better insight, into just how the Feds think, and to what they believe even though they may be operating on a criminal level.
This should sharpen our arguments when responding to homeland security issues, or should I say, hate filled, slanderous, profiling, rhetorical reports!

Who Knew!!!
My entire State of Florida is a "constitution free zone". While I have generally believed this to be true, this belief has little to do with the Border Patrol!
The statistics presented may be correct
but the map's shaded area extends much more than 100 miles from the border. This leads me to be somewhat skeptical of the statistics.
Checked w/Google Earth, looks aboout right
Why would you worry about the map anyway. It's the point that matters. I checked a few points on Google Earth and it looks damn close anyway. Border agents can't even read the constitution what makes you think they can read a map! They will say it's 200 miles next time anyway. WTFU
Borders are Irrelevant When it comes to Limits on the Government
Citizenship is not a prerequisite to any rights. Nor is geographic location.
Our rights are "Creator-given," not given by government.
There are a few priveleges, such as voting or being elected to the office of President, that have limits.
Otherwise, the federal government is prohibited from all the acts listed in the Bill of Rights and not specifically authorized under the Constitution, regardless of borders or the citizenship of the People.
The Constitution authorizes the government to do a few things, and prohibits it from doing anything else. Period.

You mention in your post that 'the constitution authorizes...'
Who signed the US Constitution? Are any of them still alive? Who agreed to the US Constitution? Are any of them still alive? Who witnessed the signing of the US Constitution? Are any of them still alive?
Now let me ask you one final question. How can it be that a group of dead men who had no individual or collective right to speak for you could legally bind you to a document that they signed over 200 years ago?
ahem.. let's set some facts straight
The Constitution of 1787 was NOT for Citizens of the States. Actually, it was established for the States themselves; the Union created by it was NEVER intended to have any issue in law with sovereign State Citizens except those as found in Art.III. This is the reason the constitution of 1787 had to be ratified by the State Citizens; the States themselves had no authority to create such an entity and therefore, had to obtain the permission of their creators (the State Citizens) to so do; ergo, as the States themselves have not ceased to exist (or have they?), the Constitution of 1787 remains as the lawful authority within the parameters as the State Citizens authorized it.
Further, the United States citizen were/are the inhabitants or residents of Washington, D.C., Guam, Puerto Rico or any other lands obtained by the Federal Government, being held in trust for the States until the States annexed them or new States were created from them; whose rights are civil in nature.
State Citizens are OWNERS of the nations they created, hold unalienable rights (not civil rights, as civil rights are entertained by a Sovereign and said Sovereign may, at its whim, change those rights as it pleases) which were necessary to hold in order to create the State originally. Wherefore, State Citizens are the sovereigns of the State they created, the State's enumerated powers are derived from them. In law, State citizens rights cannot be construed as civil in nature; such is the reason for the way the tenth amendment is worded.
Please Please PLEASE! DO NOT believe me, go look up the various renditions of definitions for THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. You will not (unless they have modified it within the last couple years) find the States themselves listed as part of those definitions. (The word "include" means ONLY those items posted after it and no other. It is popularly to assume the States are included; but they aren't unless so stated within the definition. Things are not always as they seem or as they have been presented.
