Naomi Wolf Blames the American People for Bush Torture.
From Naomi Wolf, in defense of Obama's decision reluctance to prosecute torturers:
"Today Republicans accused Democrats in Congress of having "blood on your hands too" in relation to the escalating calls to investigate. I would like to say that this is exactly right.
I will go further: not only do Congressional Democrats have "blood on their hands" -- but so do we, the American people. And CIA agents may be about to be sacrificed to assuage their, and our, guilt.
Today's suddenly urgent calls by our Congressional Democratic leaders, and even by many of the American people, to prosecute CIA operatives, military men and women and contractors who were certainly involved with, colluded in or turned a blind eye to torture are not only the height of hypocrisy, they are a form of unconscionable scapegoating. The scapegoating is political on the part of Congressional leaders, and psychological on the part of many Americans who are now "shocked, shocked" at what was done in their name.
Hello, America? Hello? Were you asleep for the past seven years? The fact that the Bush administration used torture for the past seven years has been the furthest thing from a secret.

Wolf wrote a fairly good article. I would suggest a slightly different course than the one she recommends (prosecute some of the people who carried out the torture but not the ones who testify in other criminal proceedings) but she is fundamentally correct. If I had a vicious dog, let him run around the neighborhood, and it killed a kid, I'd at least be guilty of negligence, and possibly manslaughter. Not every US citizen is guilty, as most people here have been standing up against it and other crimes, but most are. The mass of people will never go to court for their crimes, but their punishment for negligence has already started with the economic collapse and increasing tyranny.

Democrats promised that if they were in charge of Congress after the '06 midterms, things were going to change in a big way. I remember Pelosi promising getting out of Iraq and going after W. Congress is to blame (well, Dr. Paul is part of Congress but he voted the way he knows how to vote).

There is a lot of blame to go around..
Congress could have stopped it.... people could have voted (this last election and the one before) all their butts out. Judges..lawyers..prosecuters..military.. i can see where there is a long list of blame. Till America wakes up it will only be finger pointing... and the finger can go both ways.

I don't blame the American people.
The American people were guilty of being lazy and supporting a war of aggression in Iraq--not supporting torture. The American people were busy watching American Idol. They were stupid, but they were not evil.
By extending the blame to all the people, Naomi is providing political cover for Bush and Pelosi..and Obama, of course, if he passes on the issue and does nothing about it.

I had,before I saw this post,
added on her 'blog' that politics today is not about parties anymore because they all work for same boss rah rah...
She goes off on a tangent but I have the impression that somehow she is very reluctant to let go of her Obama loyalty.
It's always hard to admit that one has been lied to and have bought into it, hook, line and sinker. I am feeding her articles and info which seem to fill a gap in her understanding sometimes. Slowly connecting the dots, still too many gaps left though.
Just keep plugging away, as for most everyone else, it won't be too long before they will have the reality on their own doorstep and recognize it.
I sure hope the folks at Huffington Post don't buy that
