MississippiGRITS Injured! Chip in at *25%* Bump for my wife. Update
Submitted by zipman21 on Thu, 04/23/2009 - 08:39Update 4/29: She hasn't been feeling very well. She was on the computer most of the day yesterday because she is too sore to do anything else. Even walking around and washing her own hair is too difficult for her. We are afraid she is experiencing Vertigo. She is constantly nauseated, her stomach is burning, and she's dizzy. If anyone knows of any natural ways to treat Vertigo, please email us. Her eye is in bad shape and her vision out of the left eye is blurry sometimes. There is blood in the white of her left eye and if it doesn't clear up in a week or so, she will have to see an eye doctor as she is complaining of the feeling of "pressure" or like she has been rubbing her eye when she hasn't. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. I'm just so glad to still have her with me. I almost lost her.
Update: Alright...I have set up a chip in for them and sent all payments to their paypal address (the same one their soap orders would go to). The money will NOT pass through my hands at all. It will go straight to them. Maybe Michael will put this up somewhere on the site? Can one of the mods do this?

I thought that I would get on and let everyone know that MississippiGRITS (aka the soap lady) was in an accident this morning. She was driving down a country road and hit some loose gravel. It threw her across the road and after she went airborne, she flipped her minivan 4 times.
She seems to be mostly all right: a black eye, a concussion, an injured shoulder, soft tissue injury in her left leg, and soft tissue injury in her right foot. Many cuts and bruises.
Her vehicle is totaled; and, as I am sure most of you know, due to the financial situation she had no insurance. She was so worried about them coming to repossess it because it was the only vehicle she had large enough to hold all five of her children and now it's gone anyway.
They had an email server crash and had to change emails so if you need or want to send her an email I am sure your thoughts, prayers, and if you are so inclined...your soap orders would be much appreciated.
Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. They just can't seem to catch a break.
Thanks.

OK, I am going to embarass us both now
Ladies, buy the "sinus" soap.
Next time you have a "date night" planned, scrub up with that soap - everywhere. I will just say my husband LOVES the sinus soap and he does not have sinus problems, or even use that bar of soap.
There is my bump for the thread and hopefully, a bump for soap sales!
I told Miss Grits she needed to reconsider how she was marketing that stuff, but I think she is too much of a lady to mention it - lol!
Truth exists, and it deserves to be cherished.
Omg.
I cannot believe that you actually posted that. rofl. I got the biggest laughs from your email...I've never been told before that our sinus soap was an aphrodisiac. LOL
You should try our "Stress Relief" massage candle if you think THAT'S good...
That's a whoooole other conversation. ;)

Trying to keep this bumped.
If you can't donate, please keep this bumped for others to see.
Why?
I think we've all seen it. How could we not- it's been constantly bumped to the top for over a week now! Just make a website for donations and those interested can go there. Consider this a bump.
Not everyone is on DP daily
Not everyone is on DP daily and frankly I was glad to have it bumped so I didn't forget after 3 days. Plus now that today is payday this has reminded me to buy soap.
yep
I was on the greyhound bus travelling across Canada last few days so I could not bump it...missed DP family so much*)

Here's a bump to keep
this from being "buried".
I'm leaving
for a week at the beach today. When I get back I'll definately add to the chip in and do another urban naturals order. Loved it all, the face soap is excellent as is the lip balm and promagrante bath soap. Many blessings to you and your family.
A pleasure to help bless
A pleasure to help bless another patriot. Thank all of you for keeping us updated on MissGrits and arranging this help for her family. I'm proud to be associated with such a fine bunch of people.

Thank you so much for your help. You don't know how blessed we feel to know all of you.
You are very welcome!
You are very welcome! Intended to order samples from MissGrits and we chatted a while ago but I put it off. I will be watching as soon as she's back on her feet and follow up with that order. Comments from others here sure love the product and there's a couple of things I'd like to try.
Meanwhile .........big BUMP for a sister patriot!

I am wondering....
I was able to make room in our May budget to buy one of the Patriot Soap Bundles. Does she have a stock of these already prepared or would she have to put it together? I want to order something that will require little to no effort on her part to fulfill the order.
Also, an fyi, I just did the chip-in, I didn't log into paypal or chipin and it went right thru without any delay or hassle. I even already have the receipt in my email box.
Have to scoot now, my honeybee shipments arrive next week and I am scrambling to get ready for them but I will check in to see what the easiest soap order for us to place is on my next break.
Take care GRITS! We love you and hope for the very best!

It depends on the scent that you want
If you just want an unscented bundle, then yes we have plenty of that. If you want a scent we don't have made, then I can make it.
She comes up with recipes and has all of the herbal and oil knowledge. She just tells me what to mix and teaches me along the way. She usually makes the lotion, lip balm, healing balm, etc. (ie: everything else).
If you put an order it, we'll get it. Thanks for thinking of us.
Bump
Because I love my wife and am so glad she's here with me...
Thank you for the update
I am quite concerned about her condition as she is obviously not doing as well as she thinks she is.
The nausea and dizziness are signs of concussion and they may continue for a couple of weeks. They could also be from internal injury elsewhere. She needs to STAY DOWN and keep her head still and slightly elevated, like with a couple of pillows. The eye will take several weeks to clear up too and the pressure she is feeling is from swelling in that area. Use ice packs, 15-20 minutes on, about 30 minutes off, repeat throughout the day and night as much as possible.
Eat light but nourishing foods, yes, like chicken soup. Things that are easy on the tummy. Lots of fluids.
Watch for signs of internal bleeding, coughing blood, blood in urine or stool. Bleeding from the nose or ears. If these show up call your doctor.
It has only been 6 days and this will take several WEEKS before she will begin to feel better. I know with children at home that is hard but she MUST STAY DOWN and QUIET. As for washing her hair--forget it for now. She shouldn't even be up enough to try to take a bath or shower. Every time she moves she is agravating her head injury. Meals in bed, don't try to sit up at the table.
Thank you for the advice
I am keeping a close eye on her and keeping her down. I think she believes she is not as hurt...but she's the classic wife/mother. Always worried about everyone else and not herself.
I will watch her closely for the symptoms you describe. She has had horrible indigestion since the wreck and she just feels really faint and sick.
A typical mom
She will think she is better long before she is able to be even out of bed. MAKE HER STAY DOWN. As I said in my earlier post, when I had a concussion I thought I was ‘fine’ too. A little dizzy and sick to my stomach but I’m ok. (I was no way near being ok.) People with concussions don’t know how bad off they are. They are suffering from physical and emotional trauma and that takes time to heal. When we are suffering trauma we disassociate. As she posted when she said she thinks she has some post traumatic stress syndrome because she keeps seeing the accident over and over, she is absolutely right.
When you say ‘indigestion’ I’m thinking you mean ‘nausea’ which she mentioned before. The ‘faint and sick’ tells me she needs to sleep. All of that could be the concussion. Was there any injury to the ribs or stomach area? If her internal organs are bruised that could contribute to the stomach problems. Did they check her for ruptured spleen or pancreas? Liver damage? A lot of things can happen while you are being thrown around in a tumbling vehicle that don’t become apparent right away. I’m surprised that they let her go home so soon. I would think they would insist that she stay at least 24-48 hours in the hospital. But then, you may have told them ‘no’. (I despise hospitals and I told them ‘no’ too, even though they wanted to keep me for a day or two.) In a couple of weeks, when she is feeling able to be up a little, she should go to a chiropractor. I would be willing to bet her back needs some major adjustments.
She is blessed to have you there to help her and care for her. Thank you for keeping in contact with us here and letting us know how she is doing. We miss Mississippi!
She is having
nausea AND indigestion. Like heartburn every night since the accident. But she is also nauseated to the point of feeling sick at her stomach.
The only noticeable injury to her stomach area is along the lower part of her abdomen from the seat belt. They did not check her for any organ damage. They just sort of mashed around on her in the ER and asked if it hurt, took xrays of what she complained about, and then sent her home several hours later. They never offered to keep her. All they said was that if she still felt bad in a week or two to go see a regular General Practitioner.
Not good
Mashed around on her and asked if it hurt...
and if she had any damage internally that could have made it worse.
If she still feels bad in a week or two???
Boy, that's sure a lot of concern for the patient...and then sent her home.
What a bunch of dolts! If you have a family doctor you might give him a call, at least, as she certainly isn't in any condition to go anywhere.
I'm wondering if she may have been thrown forward and crushed her ribs and/or stomach area against the steering wheel. Still the concussion could account for the nausea and indigestion. Is she able to keep food down? If she starts vomiting, especially after 6 days now, contact a doctor right away. With a concussion one can have any or all of these; nausea, vomiting, vertigo, headache, confusion, disorientation, memory loss, bleeding from nose or ears. Here are some web sites that might be helpful to you.
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/concussion/DS00320/DSECTION...
http://www.emedicinehealth.com/concussion/article_em.htm
This next site mentions the following:
"Occasionally a person who has a more serious concussion develops new symptoms over time and feels worse than he or she did before the injury. This is called post-concussive syndrome. If you have symptoms of post-concussive syndrome, call your doctor. Symptoms of post-concussive syndrome include: "
http://www.webmd.com/brain/tc/traumatic-brain-injury-concuss...
From what you've said the head injury is the biggest problem right now, unless there are internal injuries that haven't been diagnosed. The cuts and bruises are minor.
That's why I'm keeping
such a close eye on her. But thank you for all of the information.
We felt the same way about the ER visit. They never even looked at her head even though she complained that her eye was hurting and that she had many spots on her head that were tender and hurt to touch.
Gotta love American health care.
You are welcome
Yes, health care in this country sure leaves a lot to be desired. No wonder those who can afford it go overseas for treatment.
I hope some of this information helps you. You have quite a challenge there with a sick wife and the children to care for. My prayers are with you.
Your wife is fortunate she has you. You are right that you could have lost her. Sometimes it takes a crisis to make us realize what is really important in our lives.
Keep up the good work and let us know how you are all doing.
God Bless.
