Giuliani Says, "Freedom is About Authority" Scary, Isn't It?

I stumbled upon this quote:

"What we don't see is that freedom is not a concept in which people can do anything they want, be anything they can be. Freedom is about authority. Freedom is about the willingness of every single human being to cede to lawful authority a great deal of discretion about what you do."

It was attributed to Rudy Giuliani. What a strange way of describing freedom. It was from a speech he did back in 1994. Here's a link to the New York Times story on it.
http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9A01E2D9173CF...

Another quote from the speech that I found interesting is the purpose of schools.

"They are going to have to be just as solid and just as strong in teaching every single youngster their responsibility for citizenship. We're going to find the answer when schools once again train citizens. Schools exist in America and have always existed to train responsible citizens of the United States of America."

I have no problem training kids to be responsible citizens but I kind of think that my vision of a responsible citizen is not exactly what he is talking about. I really don't think he wants citizens to question authority and government. I have a feeling that he is talking more about indoctrination.

I don't know what's scarier:

I don't know what's scarier: that he says these things, or that many people buy it.

Take a toilet bowl plunger to your next Giuliani event...as described below.

Yes And Peace Is War, Slavery Is Freedom

Come on Rudy most of us have read Orwell's "1984," and you are no George Orwell.

This is just as bad as on Fox who on several of their financial programs use the introduction "The Cost Of Freedom" although I have no idea what the hell this has to do with a program on the stock market.

But they did not complete the phrase, so I will: "The Cost Of Our Freedom Is Perpetual Slavery."

Rudy Is A Tool

I really despise this guy, even more than Cheney. If it were up to Rudy their would be a jail on every corner. Jay-Walk... go to jail. Protest...go to jail. Loot the country, Kill 3000, Have a twin facing 142 years in the pen....run for president!!! Help me Rudy!!! the terrorists are coming!! What was his great contribution on 9/11 again? Pure evil----should go the way of Saddam. Rudy get a helmet and get out there on the front lines you lying sack of shit.

9/11 was an inside job .....time to get some answers..RP 2008

Paul should bring that quote up in a debate.

Paul should bring that quote up in a debate. It would make headlines. Unfortunately, he doesnt seem to have any debate advisers to give suggestions like this.

I respect Ron Paul for not

I respect Ron Paul for not participating in the mud slinging. Dr. Paul is doing a great job, bringing his opinions forward in the debates and not attempting to bring other candidates down.

I think he will get real

I think he will get real tough toward the end of the primaries. Particularly if Rudy is in the lead. I don't anticipate Rudy hanging onto his fake frontrunner status much longer. People are fed up with him already. Paul will save the ammunition for whoever is ahead closer to the primary vote. He is no fool.

I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it.

Constitution in Schools

I think the only thing the government should do with the school system after RP shuts down the department of education is to mandate that every student from kindergarten to grade 12 be given a copy of the constitution and the bill of rights annually and be told to protect those ideas with their lives.

People will come along and tell you what they think freedom is and will try to deceive you, but be prepared to cast down these domestic enemies with your vote. Any laws not compliant with the fundamental laws of the land are not valid, and as a generation is raised around the idea of protecting these sacred laws I believe that only good and prosperity will come of it.

And maybe instead of arguing about the inclusion of "Under God" within the Pledge of Allegiance, we should break down the meaning of it's ideas to our students. Otherwise they just become meaningless forgetable words. What is liberty? Why is protecting justice important? Where do these ideas come from? Why was there a revolution? What are civil liberties?

Sorry to ramble on, but Giuliani just pisses me off when he want's to "train responsible citizens". Let's educate them on freedom instead. In fact, let's educate Giuliani on freedom while we are at it!

"We Are A Democracy".....

So is taught by my 12 year olds teacher. I put up a stink about being a Constitutional Republic that utilizes the democratic process, but she said they don't get into any of that until middle and high school. I told her my daughter would be getting that answer wrong on the next test! Next chapter is about how great NAFTA is....crazy!

I totally agree. I think

I totally agree. I think each community should mandate that it's schools have a constitution class for one semester every year from 9th grade through 12th grade.

I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it.

Gewlianni is a wacko with no kind of credentials

He's a mayor He's trying to fool people by saying things "I was third in the justice dept under Ronald Reagan" Unless your keen to his lies most people would here I was third in the Reagan administration he was a attorny in the Reagan administration thats all .He lost a election to David Dinkins. He did clean up NY but it wasn't just Him It was the police commisioner before Kerrick .They raped a guy with a Plunger .Theres so many horror stories that happened during his time as mayor.I don't have no problem with cracking down on criminals who are dealing drugs or killling and robbing the inocent .But to put that kind of ideology into the American citizens just shows you how deranged he is

I don't think there's

I don't think there's anything particularly scary or even novel about these Giuliani quotes. Don't get me wrong, I just think his positions on issues are much scarier.

Not housebroken

Rudy wants to train us? If you have a chance pick up the Dec. issue of Readers Digest. Theres an artical on the Ghoul, its starts off on a positive then kicks him upside the head. A few cases outlined involved "Giuliani and his NYPD had too often run roughshod over civil liberties" He also blamed innocent victims of police shootings for their deaths. He would be as bad if not worse than Stalin

Sounds strangely familiar

30 years ago I used to listen to LA late night talk radio. The king of the midnite to 6 am shift was Ray Bream. Every so often he would get a call from the old Soviet Union; an American Ex-pat named Valdimir Posner, who worked for an arm of Pravda was a regular guest.

Ray once asked what the Soviet defintion of freedom was, and I heard this with my own ears:

"Freedom is the right to do as your government asks of you".

His name is Rudy, and he approves this message.

Tie these comments on The Ghoul at EVERY opportunity!!

These are scarry words... and its scarry that a politician would even THINK of saying them here in America...

Then to find out it was said SIX YEARS BEFORE 9-11... the alleged incident that should make us all long for a GOOD POLICE STATE...

Tie these words to EVERY GHOUL VIDEO... Every PUBLIC appearance... every speech given.. and every campaign stop!!

ESPECIALLY IN NEW HAMPSHIRE WHERE THEY DON'T GO FOR THAT SH##

Have you all seen this???

Try a plunger up your A$$

thats how the Gewlianni police takes care of things someone needs to go to one of his events and wave a pluger at him that would be hilarious

I saw this quote in the comments of that article

I saw that quote in the comments of that article and didn't believe it. So I Googled the quote and there it was in the New York Times. I couldn't believe it.

I guess he's been very consistant over the years.

Also, this post from yesterday...

Rudy Giuliani says he respects Barack Obama's “Honesty” about his high school drug use. Says, “If we haven't made mistakes don't vote for us”

- -

MANCHESTER, N.H. - Barack Obama candidly discussed his youthful drinking and drug use with high school students Tuesday, prompting at least one teen to conclude that such experimentation won't automatically ruin a young person's future.

During a campaign stop in Chicago, Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani was asked if he thought Obama's comments to the students were appropriate.

“I respect his honesty in doing that,” Giuliani said of Obama speaking about his drug use. “I think that one of the things we need from our people who are running for office is not this pretense of perfection. And the reality is all of us that run for public office, whether its governor, legislator, mayor, president, we are all human beings. If we haven’t made mistakes don’t vote for us. Cause we got some big ones that are gonna happen in the future and we won’t know how to handle them.”

Giuliani has been stressing that he is not perfect as a way of countering questions about his personal life. It has been an active theme at debates and even appeared in both of his recent television ads.

This quote was on the msnbc site, "Cause we got some big ones that are gonna happen in the future and we won’t know how to handle them.” --- It doesn't seem to flow with the rest of his comment, I wonder if the blogger added it himself... LOL But then below, you'll notice they included that quote on the Hannity forums, but it didn't seem to ring any alarm bells.

Notice (link below), the general acceptance of his comments by some of the 'sheep' how none of them really realized what he said and what he seems to be ''predicting'' for the future.

Gouliani on meaning of liberty

What other way do you think that a collectivist [read: Nanny Stater] like Gouliani would describe liberty and freedom? Like duh...of course, Gouliani believes that the state decides what the meaning of liberty and freedom is. And it means this: You have the "freedom" and "liberty" to do and act and submit to what the state tells you to do. That's the only "freedom" and "liberty" that is allowed.
Thanks for digging up those quotes. Too bad the neo-cons are too stupid to understand that what he's saying is that it is the language of dictators who promise "security" at the expense of liberty.

Privacy Redefined As Well

Privacy: “Is a system of laws, rules, and customs with an infrastructure of Inspectors General, oversight committees, and privacy boards on which our intelligence community commitment is based and measured.”

If I were to define privacy as quoted above what would you call me? Uneducated? Ignorant? Out of my **** mind? Nope, afraid not, you’d have to call me the Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence.

This is a trend we're currently seeing as we lose our civil liberties - Read the full article hear about Dr. Kerr - It's frightening:

Freedom is Slavery

The problem with Rudy is he doesn't seem to read. He didn't read the 9/11 Report and he probably didn't read Orwell either. That's the only way "freedom is authority" could possible emerge from his mouth.

America has always been about Revolutions from its very inception. That's why we invent so much stuff here.
