Washington Post reports:

Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter will switch his party affiliation from Republican to Democrat and announced today that he will run in 2010 as a Democrat, according to a statement he released this morning.

Specter's decision would give Democrats a 60 seat filibuster proof majority in the Senate assuming Democrat Al Franken is eventually sworn in as the next Senator from Minnesota.

You can have Liberman

You can have Liberman

Just heard a good gaffe on the Fox News Channel...

Some "pundit" lumped Spector and Olympia Snowe together. Well, *that* sent me to Googling...no, she's still a Republican, and read her lament about how things are going in the party:

The more of these types who abandon ship leaves more room for the likes of us...

Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms of government those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny.

I hate Limbaugh

But I like his suggestion that Spector should take McCain with him.

Great article from the left

One good thing about Spector

He headed the investigation into the Ruby Ridge trouble.

I don't remember what the results were....but at least it got some coverage.

Nobody got fired.

No charges against the snipers, no demotions in the chain of command, business as usual. Randy Weaver won a pretty hefty settlement, but the consequences to the perps were nil.

You can say anything about

You can say anything about RINO´s, parties or whatever. This is a BIG push for Obama´s agenda

Parties are irrelevant

Thay are all gone. Americans will get wise to mere bull. America is a very beautiful country with so many unsuspecting folk...but, Amercians are calling......bullshittttttttttt!!!!!!! More and more. It's happening. I have great hope.

Gosh I sure hope this doesn't affect his...

CFR Membership. :P

He must have got the memo that its not chic to be a Repub

anymore. What do you expect from the man who gave us "The Magic Bullet" theory ? Integrity?

This is another

example how they can make a seemless transition for one party to the next. "There's not a dime's worth of difference between them"

Who Cares Which Party ANY of Them Are On

I say who cares which party he's on. You either believe in the constitution or you dont and most in BOTH parties dont reference the constitution or care about it before they vote anyways. Regarding Specter he needs to be voted out anyways. He not only voted for the Anti American Patriot Act he voted for the REALLY anti American TARP. Dont vote on party lines or rhetoric vote on how they actually vote.

Arnold is an Obamabot

He should switch parties too...

Schwarzenegger praises Obama
From Susan Ferriss

They may be in different political parties, but Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger had nothing but praise today for President Barack Obama's first 100 days in office.

The Republican governor was at a press conference in the Capitol Rotunda Tuesday to urge the Legislature to vote for a bill that would slate $3.6 million for educational tuition breaks for the California National Guard. California is the only state that not does offer such breaks to National Guard troops who do not qualify for federal benefits. Currently, only National Guard troops who serve in federal missions qualify for federal education aid. That leaves out troops who serve in state emergencies and crises, Schwarzenegger said.

"It's a terrible wrong," the governor said. "The second it hits my desk I will sign it," he said of SB 815.

But the governor saved his most exuberant remarks for his assessment of Obama's performance.

"I think he has done an extraordinary job of reaching out," he said, adding that Obama has contacted officials in California to talk about the future of health care and other matters. The Republican governor said his administration will do "everything we can" to make the new president's term successful because California's future depends on it.

"I think he represented us well overseas," the governor also said. "I was proud of him."

"I will give him a great a great mark for the work he's done the first 100 days," he said.

Specter condemned Jim Jeffords' party switch in 2001

Specter condemned Jim Jeffords' party switch in 2001

When the Vermont Republican became an independent, Specter lost a committee chairmanship in the Senate's resulting power shift. An angry Specter proposed a ban on such party switches.

Reporting from Washington -- When a Senate Republican left his party in 2001, elevating the Democrats to majority status, one member of the GOP was especially vocal about his displeasure: Arlen Specter.

Specter said then- Vermont Sen. Jim Jeffords' decision to become an independent was disruptive to the functioning of Congress. He proposed a rule forbidding party switches that had the effect of vaulting the minority to majority status in the middle of a congressional session.

"If somebody wants to change parties, they can do that," Specter said at the time. "But that kind of instability is not good for governance of the country and the Senate."

Now it is Specter switching parties, proclaiming himself a Democrat. While the move won't throw one party out of power, it could potentially hand the Democrats a 60-vote majority and deprive the GOP of the ability to block legislation through a filibuster.

Eight years ago, Jeffords' decision cost Specter his chairmanship of the Veterans Affairs Committee. Specter said at the time that he wanted the rule change to prevent a party switch that could decisively swing the balance of power in the Senate overnight, disrupting U.S. domestic and foreign policy.

Chris Matthews...

...who probably would've beaten Specter had he chosen to seek the Democratic nomination, really ripped Specter tonight. Then again, after what Chris Matthews said about Michael Scheuer last night (called him a neoconservative ideologue), he's lost all credibility with me.

Arlen Specter

is the tool who came up with the "Magic Bullet" theory that was part of the cover-up in the Kennedy assassination.
He was "junior counsel" on the Warren Commission, and they were the equivalent of the modern day NIST report on 9/11.
In other words, they were there to cover up the crime.
Specter was the one who decided it was ONE BULLET that swerved, veered, changed direction, and struck 2 people not in line with each other, and spilled out onto the gurney without any damage shown anywhere.

That should tell you all you need to know about Arlen Specter.
I call him "Arlen Sphincter".

He's just too old.

Look, Specter (not the gunship) is old, really old. He's something like 81 years old. I think he'll "retire" before next year. He's made something like 1.6 million in bribes in the first quarter of this year.

He's never done PA much good so his changing party is meaningless.
