Ron Paul along with 28 Congressmen support *HR 450*

The short summary of the bill is: "To require Congress to specify the source of authority under the United States Constitution for the enactment of laws, and for other purposes." (the summary was found on opencongress.org and all credit is given to them)

Here is a link to the original text of the bill (it's only 1 page)

I called my rep last night.

I called my rep last night. Time to get this ramped up and some exposure.

Needs an amendment.

Add:

"Only the authority cited by the congress under this section as authorizing a law may be considered by the courts when determining the constitutionality of any law or section of a law that is passed or modified after this section takes effect. Such laws, if they are missing an authority citation section, shall be ruled unauthorized by the constitution and thus void. Authority citations may be added to laws or sections of laws, or their existing authority citations modified, though the normal legislative process. A law stricken for inadequate cited authority which has the citation modified by legislation to cite additional authority shall take effect as if the previously stricken law had been passed anew with the new citation."

Or the appropriately worded equivalent.

Making an inadequate or nonexistent citation a point of order doesn't give the "requirement" teeth. (It just gives the congresscritters an opportunity to gum each other during a law's passage.) Directing the courts to strike the law if the cited authority isn't adequate gives it fangs.

Later a section could be added to sunset any grandfathered law that doesn't have an authority citation added.

That means: For each job "created or saved" about five were destroyed.

Not bad:

I was talking with a neighbor last night about this bill and discussing that it should also have a retroactive clause that would phase out any existing law that did not meet the desired criteria.

I joined up...

I've already seen the bill. Think of what changes this could work in government; it would be nothing less than profound.

How could anyone in Congress seriously say this is a bad idea? I think I'll write John Sarbanes and see what response I get...

Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms of government those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny.

Interesting: Apparently booing is effective :)

Ooops wrong thread. Sorry.

This to my congressman:

Hello again Congressman (insert name here)
In the past I have written to express concerns over certain house bills and for the most part, you are on board. Most people complain when you do wrong and think nothing of thanking you when you do right. Well, I want to thank you for doing right when I saw you were there from day one on HR-1207.
Just as important is the up coming HR 450 that in my mind is a no brainer. This is just what our government is suppose to be all about, and much to my surprise, you had yet to sign on. I certainly hope this was an oversight and I am just being premature in my concern. I am usually very pleased to have you representing my interests and seldom have complaints. I urge you to take a look at this simple, but very important bill and continue your usual quality of representation.
Thank you, (ME)

I think we all need to pound their doors on this one.

Lets hope?

I sometimes see things like, wouldn't it be great, or, I sure wish, or, lets hope, and all I have to say is that hope won't bring it home. This is as important as any other bill out there and we all need to be on the horn letting our reps know that. I guess this struck a chord with me but I will be blasting my rep. He is usually pretty good about things and was on 1207 from day one. Now I want to know why he isn't on this? Pick up the phone, send an email or fax, blast them all to hell on this one.
OK, I'm done ranting.

Proof the Republican Party is no more

This was part of the 1996 Republican Party platform -- the last platform of that party before it threw off the last vestiges of even pretense of liberty.

http://www.cnn.com/ALLPOLITICS/1996/conventions/san.diego/facts/gop.platform/platform.all.shtml

In addition, we support Republican-sponsored legislation that would require the original sponsor of proposed federal legislation to cite specific constitutional authority for the measure.

That there are only 28 co-sponsors demonstrates that the Republican Party of today isn't close to even the Party of 1996. During the Ron Paul campaign I used the 1996 platform repeatedly to show to die-hard Republicans that Ron Paul was closer to Republican ideals than any of the other candidates. It was to no avail, though -- they were all rabidly pro-war.

Let's light the phones up on this one too.

This to me could be bigger than H.R. 1207. It would restrict the bozos that are elected and that's virtually impossible to do. If it doesn't restrict them they would think twice. I wonder how many have actually read the constitution and writings of the founders?

This Bill is a Great Idea! - CITE the LAW!

"‘Each Act of Congress shall contain a concise and definite statement of the constitutional authority relied upon for the enactment of each portion of that Act. The failure to comply with this section shall give rise to a point of order in either House of Congress. The availability of this point of order does not affect any other available relief."

Ron Paul's Convention Speech

28 co-sponsors!!

Good news goes to the top!!

Its a start. What can we do

Its a start. What can we do to boost this?

ideas to boost support

post this information on different websites
call you congressman
call media contacts or editors of local papers
share this information with friends and family.

i personally have start a group on facebook to raise awareness and co-sponsors for the bill. I chose a social networking site like facebook because in less than 2 minutes you can inform 50 to 1000 people (depends how many "friends you have") and if only 2% join the group and actively invite others other it'll become a chain reaction

BASIC

If your congressperson does not support this bill, they are essentially pissing on their Constitutional Oath.

Right

And I'm sure my Congressman will not support the bill. He is strictly for the powers of darkness.

Who is he and how do we get him out of the House?
