Constitutional Convention. Just say NO!
Submitted by OFallonBrent on Thu, 04/30/2009 - 12:24As we all try to educate people on the US Constitution and demand our government obey it, there are some among us who would prefer to rewrite it.
Some have the foolhardy notion that a Constitutional Convention can be called just to deal with a single issue. They think that they will meet, vote on that issue and nothing else, and go home.
This misguided notion is naive and dangerous.
Once the Convention is called there is no limit to what they can do to the US Constitution.
Sure, it must be ratified by the States, but do you really trust them to do the right thing?
Isn't it more likely that each state will have something in it that state wants and will sell us all down the river to get that thing?
Look at our legislative leadership. Do you really think these people have the liberty of the people in mind? Do you think they even understand what true liberty is?
If they did we would not be fighting to keep what few rights they still allow us. We would not be trying to teach people about the rights they've lost. They would be leading the charge to return to the constitution.
To hear people who claim to be working towards the cause of liberty calling for a Constitutional Convention makes me very concerned.
I'm working on getting my State's convention call reversed, although no one knows for sure if this really has any effect on the call requirements.
Rather than calling for a Constitutional Convention we should be trying to turn the hands of our Constitutional doomsday clock backward, not move it forward.
When I hear someone ask for a new Constitutional Convention, I don't simply say no, I say HELL NO!

Better to elect liberty minded congressmen
Far better than a Constitutional Convention is to elect liberty minded people to congress.
You could also make a case
You could also make a case that all amendments past the 12th are unconstitutional.

"I love the Union and the Constitution, but I would rather leave the Union with the Constitution than remain in the Union without it." - Jefferson Davis
"A government of reason is better than one of force." --Thomas Jefferson to Richard Rush, 1820
100% agreed-there is nothing
100% agreed-there is nothing wrong with the Constitution as it is, we simply need to uphold and obey it.
There are problems with it
The 16th and 17th amendments are just two of them.
But a constitutional convention is not the way to correct them.
And I second that!!
And I second that!!
