Kentucky Sen. Jim Bunning, the most endangered Republican up for reelection in 2010, appears headed for retirement after giving his leading GOP rival the blessing to prepare to run for his seat next year.
Bunning’s retirement would be a huge victory for national Republicans who have grown increasingly nervous that the 77-year-old two-term senator would lose a critical race as the party tries to cling to its diminished minority in the Senate.
On Thursday afternoon, Kentucky GOP Secretary of State Trey Grayson announced that he would form an exploratory committee to run for Bunning’s seat — a move that Kentucky GOP operatives say is a precursor to Bunning's retirement. Grayson's entry will come as a relief to Kentucky Republicans and Senate GOP leaders, who may now have reason to believe their party could hold on to this seat....

I just looked at the website
I just looked at the website and read some of the two hundred something comments on the bottom of the page. Surprisingly there were almost zero mentions of Rand Paul and his possible bid for Congress. He is not in the mainstream yet. During Ron Paul's campaign there were thousands of internet activists that hyped him up and that put his name out in the open. Start writing on websites like these! Hype him up!
As it turns out ...
Politico got this press release from McConnell's office and Bunning flat out denies giving Grayson his blessing.
Things are heating up already in Kentucky.
Bunning may still be in the hunt.

Time for a new Rand Paul Money Bomb.
We really need a Rand Paul Money Bomb or two to get things going for Rand. Those of you that worked that out last time for Ron Paul, I hope you are working again now.
I'm in
This could be our big chance. This and Schiff 2010. But anyway, imagine if we made a big advertising campaign during the primary out of the fact that Grayson was a democrat at one point. That might discredit him enough to win Rand the election. How f-ing stellar would that be?
I'm pretty sure
Rand is already campaigning. I can't give much but I will do what I can to get him elected along with Adam Kokesh and our Oklahoma man R.J Harris.
Hope we see more candidates like this!
If we get enough of these type people in Washington to stand by Ron Paul we could see some changes!
We need at least a 2 million dollar money bomb for
Rand if he runs, the hell with convincing his wife- he needs to tell her to deal with it and go full steam. It is only our country we are talking about. Money bomb from hell, big mad money bomb. Come on Rand, don't hesitate, let's run with the ball.
Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom must. like men, undergo the fatigue of supporting it.-Thomas Paine
The R3volution requires action, not observation!!!!
Grayson is bad news. He is a true RINO
Former Democrat turned Republican. We saw how that turned out in PA.
We need Rand to run! I'll dedicate the next year to the cause!
Speaking of retirement: Obama will make a pick to the SCOTUS.
Supreme Court Justice Souter To Retire
by Nina Totenberg
NPR.org, April 30, 2009 · NPR has learned that Supreme Court Justice David Souter is planning to retire at the end of the current court term.
The vacancy will give President Obama his first chance to name a member of the high court and begin to shape its future direction.
At 69, Souter is nowhere near the oldest member of the court. In fact, he is in the younger half of the court's age range, with five justices older and just three younger. So far as anyone knows, he is in good health. But he has made clear to friends for some time that he wanted to leave Washington, a city he has never liked, and return to his native New Hampshire. Now, according to reliable sources, he has decided to take the plunge and has informed the White House of his decision.

I say we
put the Paul in Paulitics! It's about time we had a prominent family stand up on the side of Liberty and the Individual. Remember folks, '08 was all about name recognition...this is no longer the case! Let the message speak for itself, all we must do now is herd the sheep. We are the shepherds, or, in the words of Washington's C4L coordinator "sheepdogs." Bark loud and let your teeth be shown!
This is awesome, AWESOME
This is awesome, AWESOME news!
Will Rand Paul announce he is running for Senate? Rand said that he would once Bunning officially anounces he is not running. This story is just saying that Trey Grayson said the same thing as Rand and now Trey is forming an exploratory committee. Will Rand wait for the official anouncement from Bunning, or will he follow Grayson's lead and do the same?
Either way, this is great news. It just made my day.

Will Rand's wife let him run? Last I heard she wanted to keep him in the house.
Bunning DRILLED Geithner about taxes...
He was good regarding many things.
Not perfect because I think he supported the Iraq adventure.
But on many things, Bunning was better than most so called Republicans.
But now the door opens for Rand Paul.

o sorry
I just made a thread for this but u beat me to it. I think you made your thread right as I was making mine.
Who's Trey Grayson?
Bunning seems to want to hand it to him. What's his record like?

Don't know...but,
I know who Rand Paul of Kentucky is. Why not?
Secretary of State ...
Son of a banker ...
Very poweful ...
Very young ....
But also on the lighter side ...
very realistic and even if he wins ...
knows how to track the votes and figure out how he won ...
or how to insure a future win.
Even a loss here, may not be that bad ...
but I will do my darndest to make sure he learns the lesson of freedom the hard way.
Rand could use the banking connection against Trey.
In fact, that is the very first thing I would do if I were Rand.

Must be nice
I don't have a pension. I have a 401k and an IRA both of which are down about 50%. Must be nice to have a government guaranteed, inflation indexed pension plus medical care for life. The private sector is getting raped. But this guy is set for life or until the SHTF. I'm not dreading the second option.
tell me about it
Oh no but only private individuals can be greedy never the trustworthy politicos and bureaucrats. Of course it is only in the private sector that you have to give people what they want in order to earn a living... unlike the politicos.

Damn it.
That bastard Mitch McConnell put Bunning to the chopping block after Jim went against the Bailouts.
That is sad news because Bunning was coming around and waking up.
He had to retire.. the monster wouldn't fund him because he went against it.
ON a good note tho.. I'm all about helping Rand.. it's going to be a battle tho..

during the campaign.
I think your assessment is correct ...
I had confirmation that Bunning was in ...

But, as you stated, Bunning owed McConnell an awful lot.

This is great news !!!!
Grayson is from the north, which is a very difficult region to come from and get elected in a state wide election. Bunning was also from N.K. but his race against Baesler when he first was elected to the Senate was extremely expensive and he was already a congressman running against a former Mayor, and it was 1992, the year of the Republican "Revolution".
Grayson has some deep pockets and is the clear favorite, but he is defeatable.
