List of Celebrities Supporting Ron Paul?

1 vote

I'm wondering if there is a list compiled somewhere of actors, sports stars, and other entertainment figures who support Ron Paul.

I was watching some old episodes of Quantum Leap today, as well as some Enterprise episodes on Friday--this made me start wondering where Scott Bakula's political interest is taking him this campaign season.

Googling "Scott Bakula" and "Ron Paul" turned up nothing, but a quick check of "politics" and "Scott Bakula" turned up an interesting article. Here's an excerpt:

Scott Bakula, the co-star of ''Romance Romance,'' is hesitant about discussing his interest in politics.

''A lot of people believe that what actors say is true, and I don't feel personally qualified to espouse theories,'' said Mr. Bakula, a Tony nominee this year. ''There are some situations actors have gotten behind where it would be impossible for them to know the facts. Actors can be very influential and should be careful how that influence is used.''

This doesn't mean, he said, that performers shouldn't participate in the political process and campaign for candidates.

Celebrities are citizens too

I used to think a 'celebrity' would be foolish to come out and support a certain candidate. They would find themselves in a no-win situation, automatically alienating a certain number of their fans.
I now realize they should, if the spirit moves them, endorse anyone they want, just as we do in our menial, boring lives. I have spoken my concerns and have lost friendships already in preaching the virtues of a RP Presidency. This is a small price to pay for this fundamental freedom. We all have ancestors who DIED for this right, and I for one would never ridicule anyone for who they support, even if I do not agree with them. As for the Ron Paul campaign, I hope they would appreciate ANYONE'S endorsement.

Who cares? Celebrities shouldn't abuse their fame

Celebrities certainly have the right to speak out as they see fit. But people should realize that most celebrities are regular people whose political opinions are no more valid or informed than the average schmoe.

Some "political" celebrities may be qualified to endorse, but when Chuck Norris uses his acting fame -- or Oprah Winfrey her talk show hosting clout -- to schill for a political candidate or cause, it's inappropriate.

It's basically a transmutation of their fame. We know them because they act, sing, or work in television. They should not be using that public persona to attract more attention to their views than the average person.

One person, one vote.

I would hope that the Paul campaign would politely decline to use these kinds of celebrity stunts. If prominent individuals in the public policy sphere (politicians, political activists, candidates, etc.) wish to join Paul on the campaign trail, that's fine. If Clint Eastwood of Kurt Russell come knocking, it'd be exploitation to use their unrelated acting fame to garner attention. I hope the campaign not only declines to engage in these stunts, but conveys to the media this decision and calls on other candidates to avoid such tricks.

Outsourcing the patriot's duty

I agree that their opinion doesn't carry any more weight that any other citizen and most often quite less, but they are citizens too, they do have a vote, and they have every right to share their opinion. Unfortunately, far too many people associate with celebrities and put a great deal of credence in what they have to say, whether they're informed or not.

On the other hand, I would rather have celebrities at least discussing politics rather than America's Next Top Dancing With The Scrubs, or whatever the hell people are wasting their time on this week. At least it gets it in people's minds. You could even argue that, because they have the attention of so many people, they not only have a right as a free individual, but a duty as a citizen to engage in the discussion and take a stand.

You point out that we should care about the opinions of politicians, political activists, candidates, etc. and I certainly agree that we should pay attention to the people who are well-informed on the subject. But this is also a dangerous trend in modern politics. The job of the patriot, the job of the citizen, is being outsourced and subcontracted out to these people. These people all have their own agendas, their own perspectives, associations, allegiances, and affiliations. There is nothing to guarantee or even suggest that their best interests in any way correspond with your best interests. This outsourcing is at the root of the problems we face today. We have no idea about most of the things the government does. "That's someone else's job; I'm too busy." Yeah, so are they--governing you. And guess what, when they collect lots of your money to then dole out how they see fit, the people that want that money (the military-industrial complex, the medical-industrial complex) are going to spends lots of money keeping in office the politicians that are willing to give it to them, all at the expense of your liberties and the fruits of your labor.

I have been following campaigns since JFK

People don't care about actors supporting presidential candidates.

A person's presidential vote is a highly emotional affair.

Oprah supports Obama. Obama has no chance.

Chuck Norris supports Huckster. Who cares? People who like TV tuff guys?

Which celebrities like Rudy? Some dress designer or something?

All the celebrities like Hillary because Hillary is a celebrity and her husband likes to have sex with all sorts of people...yay! What a great thing to be a celebrity for!!!

Let's elect Hillary so Fleetwood Mac can play at the Whitehouse yay! We can have big celebrity parties with the new president...yay!

Excuse me, I have to go throw up.....

There, I'm back now.

Please vote for Ron Paul so the celebrities have the freedom to be in the detox centers of their choice.

Best to all,

T

Bill Maher has at least a libertarian streak in him, and I don't know if he supports him wholeheartedly, but he certainly took him much more seriously much earlier than most people on tv.

Top Gun

Tom Cruise thanked Ron Paul for his work with children and psychiatric medications right before the tonight show started. He also seemed to keep his answers very concise and not elaborate as usual. Maybe he wanted to give Ron Paul more time to talk. Would a Cruise endorsement hurt or help?

Don't count on mainstream hollywood

Main stream hollywood Is out everyone knows who runs hollywood and its not friends of the United States.

I wonder.

It makes me wonder if celebrities can really come out and say who they endorse. Obviously, they can come out and endorse a Democrat without any fear of reprisal, but I wonder if these celebrities are acting under undue influence. i.e. no Democrat, no work.

Here's a link to libertarian celebrities

Clint Eastwood, Dave Barry, John Stossel, Richard Branson, Kurt Russell, Tom Selleck and Penn Gillette (Penn & Teller) are here on lists that, in total, add up to lots of names. Then again not all the names are familiar, at least to me. But I'm an old fart:

http://www.theadvocates.org/celebrities.html

None I named above has endorsed Dr Paul as far as I know. In fact I don't know if any of them has ever endorsed anyone for President. But Dr Paul has described himself as a libertarian Republican, he's on the list as the 1988 LP candidate, and a lot is at stake in this election -- so who knows?

Rappers

Who were the Rappers that did that RP YouTube video? I thot that was great.

I'd like to see John Stossell, Judge Napolitano, Willie Nelson, Drew Carrie (sp), Noam Chomsky, George Will, John Maher, Sean Penn and all of the others who profess to be so anti-Bush and this war to put their money where their mouths are.

Napolitano especially. His YouTube video is a great testimony to his belief in Ron Paul, but lately he's not said anything near an open endrosement.

he doesn't want any rappers

Rappers and stars like puffy put a bvad taste in most americans lives esecially that MTV CRAP VOTE OR DIE .I personnally felt threatened by puffy saying that

I can't see Chomsky endorsing Ron Paul, he has no respect for property rights...

King Solomon

King Solomon was the one who did that song for Ron Paul. I generally hate rap, but I really enjoy hearing this song. I guess it depends on what the message is. The King is one astute young man. It sounds like he has a firm grasp on the elite's control of world politics.

Richard Linklater?

Director Richard Linklater is a fan of Alex Jones (who was in both Waking Life and A Scanner Darkly) and Alex is all about Ron Paul.
So Linklater probably supports Paul but he's an active, respected artist so if he is compelled to imply it he probably would want to do it artistically. Anybody have any known degree of separation with Linklater? Maybe he could direct a commercial!

And his movie "Slacker" has.....

....A Ron Paul reference.

Has anyone seen the part where a box truck goes by in the background that says "Ron Paul for Congress"?

This movie was made back in the early 90s, and it's finally out on DVD.

A cult classic, indeed.

That's interesting. I saw the movie and was not aware of RP at the time... Might have to re-see that flick.

Plain White T's

A band my son likes, the Plain White T's, played in San Antonio this summer. Our Express News paper ran a review of the concert, and they included a photo showing the bass player with a "Ron Paul 2008" bumper sticker on his guitar. For whatever it's worth.

John Mayer, Kane, another

John Mayer, Kane, another wrestler (dont remember name lol), Barry Manilow

also some well-known Libartarians that might support Paul: Matt Stone, Trey Parker (south park creators), Drew Carrey, I forget the rest, but actually tons and tons of celebrities are libertarians.

Barry Manilow

Barry Manilow is speading his bets. He has given $2,300 to Ron Paul but also to Obama, Edwards, Cucinich (sp?) and Richardson. Funny though, he didn't give to Hillary! I reseached it on the FEC website. Ron Paul is the only Republican he has given to, through the end of the 3rd quarter.

"What have you done for Ron Paul today"?

?

I thought the maximum allowed was $2,300 regardless of the candidate. You mean you could give the max to every candidate?

Yes, you can give to more than one

Apparently, the $2,300 figure is derived from an index for the year. Here's a link to a summary of the 2007 limits from the FEC:

I think once a few of them get the stones to do it, a lot will jump on the bandwagon. We just need one insanely cool person to do it....then they will all want to "be like mike". :)

The Gibson's are Traditional Catholics

And so am I. This means we follow the traditional Latin Mass before Vatican II. You see it's much the same as our country our Roman Catholic Church unfortunately has been corrupted too! This quote " I apologize for the "smear", but I didn't mean it that way, I was stating truth - the opposite of smear.

My parents are Catholic, I was raised Catholic, my entire home town is Catholic, and Hutton Gibson - is no Catholic. Both he and his son are fundamentalists, there is a difference just as there is a difference between fundamentalist Muslims and moderates. Everything about the Ron Paul Revolution is opposite of fundamentalism and irrationality. He can support RP, but we shouldn't tout him as a celebrity supporter. We should ignore him just as the campaign is ignoring the donation of the white supremicist. (I think that is his name) "

is not correct. Sir if you don't know anything about something please don't make these blanket statements. I think very highly of the Mel Gibson family. I don't mean to be a smart alec but do some checking into history a bit before smearing a good Catholic family.
