So far this year only one person--a baby visiting from Mexico--has died of swine flu in the United States, but more than 56,000 people died from the flu in the United States in 2006, the most recent year for which data is available, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
In 2005, the flu killed 63,001 people in the United States, according to the CDC. But that year the President of the United States did not use a primetime news conference to admonish the American people that they must wash their hands, and the Vice President did not say he would not want his family to have to ride on a plane or a subway because someone might sneeze near them.

Something that does not make sense to me
The daughter of a friend of mine had a cold with chills and over all body aches so she went to her doctor last Monday..they called her this Friday and placed her and her daughter under a 7 day quarantine at their home and then closed the day care she used for the next 14 days.
They don't even know if she has this flu yet..they just sent it off to CDC.
But her husband has not be quarantined.
They all live under the same roof..why would they not put him under the same restrictions ?
BTW..they both are fine and not even feeling ill anymore.
This is the so called South Dakota case that just showed up this weekend.
I should add..they don't think it came from the day care..she had recently flown into Denver and they said a luggage handler in Denver has the flu so if she has it that is where it came from.
This sounds like a very drastic measure to take: quarantine?
It sounds like they have the swine flu.
I believe that they should have given them an official document to perform this action, not just a phone call. Are you sure that this is legit?
I was the County Health Officer, and we always had to prepare a legal document when such actions were needed.
I believe we Americans ought to put this whole flu scam into

We've all by know likely heard that the CDC reports an average of 36,000 flu deaths per year, and that in 2006 there were 63,000 flu deaths.
This information is inaccurate. What is being told over and everywhere is that the CDC's latest reporting on Influenza Deaths is 65,000 is 2006. And that the Average is 36,000 per year. THIS IS BOGUS!!!
Go and read the latest (2006) data and you'll find that they lump Influenza and Pneumonia TOGETHER, and then additionally give data on each of them.

Just found another CDC report, and those pneumonia deaths ARE influenza related. Seems that the more popular getting a Flu shot gets, the more the Flu Death rate goes up...
"In one study of influenza epidemics, approximately 19,000 influenza-associated pulmonary and circulatory deaths per influenza season occurred during 1976--1990, compared with approximately 36,000 deaths during 1990--1999"
This increase is attributed to different strains of virus.

Increased Vaccinations AND increasing deaths?
These numbers have to be correlated. An article from the CDC quotes a medical doctor stating that more people are getting vaccinated and that is "certainly a good thing". Why then are annual deaths increasing?
As the Good Doctor says, If you have the wrong diagnosis, it's time to change the treatment plan!

These vaccinations also correlate with the explosion of autism, dyslexia, ADHD, and psychiatric illnesses. They recently recommended, I believe within the last 3 years, that everyone get a flu shot,...everyone?
How many of those people vaccinated died? Who many who did not get the vaccination died? They are not programmed to answer that question!

My husband has to give poison I mean vaccines at work several times a day. It is the most carefully tracked thing he does, someone is watching the vaccine program VERY closely. You will never get to see that data, though.

Agree with you about using the term "poison" for this material. Mercury in a vaccine for a preservative? and cell debris, DNA, an aborted fetuses added for good measure. Not good to give, but worse to receive.

The 1918 "flu" (the more I study it, the more I think it was a bio warfare weapon developed here, using unwitting US troops as the delivery system) killed 50 to 100 million people worldwide in little more than a year ... far more victims than died in WWI.

When are people going to wake up and realize that the flu and the swine flu are one and the same thing? That IS the scam. They have exact same symptoms. It is a numbers game and a scare tactic.
There is not one person in the world that can tell you the difference between swine flu and regular flu. Reason? Because there is no difference.
Not only are the numbers by the CDC exaggerated, but they mix and match illnesses to create new ones by just adding a new name to it.

As public health officials prepare for a new strain of flu that originated in pigs, they're taking lessons from a public health crisis three decades old.
Swine flu struck Fort Dix, N.J., in January 1976, killing an Army recruit and seriously sickening 13 more. In the ensuing nine months, the federal government responded with a huge vaccination program to calm an edgy public.
Unfortunately, the vaccine harmed more people than the flu.
"The problem was, the outbreak was already over when the decision was made to vaccinate," said Dr. Don Burke, dean of the University of Pittsburgh's Graduate School of Public Health, who researched the outbreak. "So this is, in some ways, a cautionary tale to make sure the response is proportionate to the risk."
The immunization of 40 million Americans ordered by then-President Gerald Ford resulted in 532 cases of Guillain-Barre syndrome, which can cause paralysis and death. Only 230 people were diagnosed with swine flu, and all cases were confined to Fort Dix, Burke said.
The Army recruit who contracted the illness died, the only fatality caused by the virus. And the controversy over the Guillain-Barre syndrome cost the top U.S. health official his job.
A strain of swine flu is believed to have sickened 1,900 people and killed 149 in Mexico. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has confirmed 40 cases in the United States in New York, California, Texas, Kansas and Ohio. So far, there are no known U.S. deaths.

Putting the actual numbers aside
what we call common influenza kills folks who are already ill, have a chronic disease, are very elderly, or have compromised inmmune systems. It is extremely rare that a healthy individual of any age would die from the "flu".
Swine flu, on the other hand, can kill perfectly healthy people. Indeed, the first reports out of Mexico were that many of the fatalities were young and healthy. This is similar to the flu strain of 1919.

You are correct in stating
You are correct in stating that typical strains of the flu virus usually causes serious medical problems or death to individuals that are already immunodeficient.
However, the swine flu is no different. The symptoms have the potential of being more severe, but it's still the immunodeficient people that will be the high risk patients. Normal and healthy people will be just fine.
The "Similar" strain of the 1918 flu virus needs to be expounded on. The 1918 flu itself didn't kill as many people as reported. It was the immunodeficient people and the severe infections that were caused by the flu that killed so many. This was long before we had several types of antibiotics to combat these infections with a great success rate.
The swine flu is nothing more than something to be aware of. You don't have to be afraid that everyone is going to die because of it. If you, or someone you know has problems with their immune system, then you should worry about it. However, you should be worrying about all and any other type of viruses or infections.

The 1918 flu was unusual in that it killed many otherwise healthy people. It induced a thing called a cytokine storm, which was an excessive immune response. there was a group of people between 20 and 35 that died in significant numbers. interestingly, there must have been a similar virus 35 years before, since there was a share cutoff in age of the victims.
They freaked because this flu was H1N1
Which is the same as the 1918 flu. They wanted to get out in front on the prevention. Just recently they found out that there are a few genetic differences, and that this flu is not exactly the same, and probably is not nearly so deadly to healthy people.
The 50 - 60 thousand that die per year are people with other health problems as well as the flu, generally old, young or already sick.
