Question for you guys?

Ok last night my girlfriend and I were on our way to go out for the evening. She was driving her truck and apparently had a license plate light out. So we got pulled over, now my question is does her having a license plate light out on her truck give them a right to demand my ID? What do you guys think?

Stop and Identify

24 states have "stop and identify" laws, which require you to identify yourself to any "peace" officer. According to the Supreme Court (so far), you can satisfy these requirements by simply stating your name, although some states specifically say that you must also give your address.

As you are not operating a motor vehicle, you are not required to possess or even own a driver's license. I can hardly see how you are required to show an ID card that you're not required to possess in the first place.

Thanks

and I am proud to say Michigan has no such law at this time

Just a warning

Pretty much I live in one of those areas where if you drive a piece of crap you get harassed. We both had nice cars for the past 4 years and never got pulled over once. Trying to cut back the cars were the first to go now we both drive $500 dollar trucks and get watched and harassed all the time. He asked me for my ID I said what was his reason for asking me my ID? He got really upset and said because I'm on a public road. I started to argue but got backhanded by my girl. So I dropped it but only because I haven't read the real ID act. She also had a cracked windshield that he didn't see so maybe it was better. Just seems a little unconstitutional to me that he thought just because my girlfriends license plate light was out he has the right to run my name and check me out.

real id has nothing to do with that

Pretty sure I could have detested it then
