Forvik - One man declares independence from UK

There's a guy living in the Shetland Islands off the north coast of Scotland who did some research and discovered that the Shetlands were never formally transferred to the UK (from Norway). It's all just kind of been assumed.

As such, he's set up on the tiny island of Forvik (about the size of a football field) and declared it a Crown Dependancy, independent from the UK and from the EU, with the ability to make its own laws and raise its own taxes. He's calling for more to join him. He's minting his own gold-backed currency, you can apply to become a citizen, get a passport, a drivers license ...

He's stopped paying taxes, didn't apply for planning permission for building his house, has claimed the sea bed and will be farming it out for oil exploration, has registered his own vehicle and has challenged the EU or the UK to take him to court over any of this if they feel they have a case. So far it's been 318 days and no challenge of any kind!

He's not applied for these things, he's not asked permission, he's just said 'I'm right in doing this' and done it. One guy, taking a stand and encouraging the rest of the Shetland Islands to take it with him.
