Daily Paul Newspaper!
Why don't we create our own Daily Paul Media Empire? Here's the idea:
We use content from Daily Paul to create a weekly/monthly "newsletter".
Overview:
1) Site Administrators select the best Blogs/comments. Perhaps we as registered users could have the ability to vote on them?
2) The most popular topics and writings are added to a easily printable pamphlet. Like one of those local "coffee perks", with some ads, jokes, classifieds in them.
3) Any User can download and print the ads to promote the most discussed and popular concepts and ideas here at Daily Paul.
4) Daily Paul and the Freedom movement can earn money selling ads in these newsletters.
I don't imagine putting together the paper would take very long (since content is being created for you).
Daily Paul would reach people with our ideas, every week/month that otherwise would never be exposed to the concepts of liberty and differing perspectives of current events.
It would cost me a couple bucks to print a couple hundred pamphlets and drop them off in a few places...but that money is well invested. No employees, grassroots newspaper...
Daily Paul visitors would skyrocket with visitors seeking to deliver news or to vote on what was news. A news agency, for the people and by the people. It's the only paper I would read, the only news I would need.
Maybe there's someone in the forum who can print professional editions, that I could order? Even if we did an issue once every three months...and the less computer savvy could order pamphlets or print them themselves.
We could raise our issues Nationwide, Worldwide, with a single voice and avoid some of the discord we saw during the election.
There could be profit in it for the Daily Paul! Let the government try to track or censor a grassroots distributed newsletter.
Insofar as
advertising revenue?
Legal issues (copyrighted content)?
I am just one man, I do not have the answers...but amongst us we can solve anything.
I would like to be the first to commit his willingness to offer his time and effort to this cause. I would distribute an electronic Liberty newsletter to my friends. I would enlist my likeminded friends to help distribute copies leaving them in coffee shops etc.
It would be easy to deliver newsletters once a month to a few houses. Take the kids out for exercise and deliver them on a Sunday afternoon. Alone I can reach hundreds of households, together we could reach thousands upon thousands.

Perfect
Give DP a section in Restore the Repulic. Already being printed, just needs subscribers. I will be the first to say I will subscribe to it if they include this.
Recommendation please?
For anyone with the wisdom...
What programs are necessary for the creation of a printable newsletter that are easily navigatable and offer quality format.

Only purpose for recommending an approach that incorporates a sort of leadership in content/editing/graphics is so that the distibutors are not editing, formatting, and constantly trying to filter the internet for news. That time could be better spent in spreading the message and earning some income to put food on the table.
I would question (my own at least) the ability to edit and format such a thing. If anyone here has got a leg up on this and is willing to spare a few hours with me on formatting a newsletter function I would be glad to make a meet and let the learning begin. :) The more local to Balto/DC the better, respectively.
MEDIA is truth, you no
WE need a TV station. OR buy air time PAPERS ARE OVER Take a lesson from OBAMAroma.
you-no
Nah!!!
Papers are not over. Overhead expenditures and mega-media is dead. They have only begun to realise that they are terminal. If a handful of people create the newsletter. A few more buy the rights to produce it... or donate enough to reach a top-tier'd donor status, then they will have access to the downloadable pdf version with permission to reproduce.
As a distributor, create your team and send them out to earn their commission.
It is an efficient business model that borrows the 1 cost effective mechanism that newspaper utilizes today-their delivery service. It also utilizes a hybrid version of MLM for small scale business. The content of the newsletter has a very cost effective overhead and everyone involved should share many common values in beliefs all founded on the basis of freedom and liberty with the goals of spreading it; whilst avoiding semantical debate.
Admit it. We all know that Glen Beck and all of those others are behind the times. These little itty bitty newsletters would get info out weeks ahead of their newest 'skit' they create to entertain the masses. How cool will it be to hand out news to people that they will see on tv 1-2 months later? I just hate it when I hear people talking economics and politics at a restaurant and they are only spouting what they heard on tv. I'd rather get the warm & cozy feeling by hearing them spout Ron Paul and Lew Rockwell perspectives-- even if they didn't understand exactly who they were. Its the MESSAGE they need in the form of truth.
It would
also need a section listing liberty candidates running for office all over the U.S.. Links, support contacts, etc.
why not just buy the New York Times
and turn it into The Daily Paul Times

Cause it will be full of
"I saw an airplane in the sky and it made a chemtrail that made my dog blink alot.'
We're not ready for that kind of responsibility yet. Its a matter of easing people into the rabbit hole not shoving the rabbit hole down their throats.
Also the whole ashton lund fiasco. Could you imagine sending that story to print.
agreed..
Excellent concerns you raise there. My stance on the issue is to not indulge in the 9-11 arguments. I believe the truth movement is doing well on its on. Its momentum would be no more than drag that slows home print down.
Chemtrails... need I say more. Considering where I live, there is rarely a person in this metro area that sees the skies any different than they did 2 decades ago.
Regarding ashton lund fiasco. I agree to errr on the side of caution before waving the "big brother beats up the innocent" flag. Not to say that there were not any key points about the patriot act that couldve been brought to light-- just not the ideal candidate for the message.
Primarily, I would ...assume... that the purpose of the home print would be to disseminate information that teaches citizens about the particular processes occurring in D.C. Like say an update column on the fabulous H.R. 1207. A well thought out article explaining just why it would be a good thing.
Information regarding the constitution and so forth. The goal would be to make inroads to the public so that they will not just take the "MSM tailspin" put on liberty and freedom.
If the people who subscribe wish to look into issues considered by some as 'controversial' or "conspiracy" then that is on their on due dilligence.
Let Alex Jones dampen his message by not providing his own due dilligence.
Also, as a monthly production I hope that there would be enough time to do the research and reach a clear concise report. How hard could it be to come up with 12pgs of liberty and freedom sprinkled with advertisements peppered with comedic cartoons?
Gotta say...
I have 3 more distributors on board not including myself. All agreed to dedicated evening and weekends to door2door canvassing selling single issues and dropping business cards from our independent media distribution agency. All share the same goals and will work vehemently to establish subscription base.
Anyone seriously entertaining this thought please contact me. I would personally like to get this going soon.
Distributors
I think we all know kindred spirits that would be interested in participating.
How about Ron Paul smoke signals?
Some of the problems..... perhaps there are solutions.
Having been involved in BOTH a magazine, AND a non-profit organization (a school)... I can tell you that on paper it is a great and exciting idea.... but "voluteerism" only lasts so long. To create an actual Newsletter will take consistency and hard work by many people. The ONLY way to guarantee consistency is to have a paid professional staff because once people "volunteer" for so long.... they lose their passion and their ability to lose work time - or donate their own money - and they fade away.
SO, If you have to have a paid staff then the newsletter MUST make money. Yes, you can sell "advertisements" and "classifieds", but that also requires staff and accounting services for record keeping and taxes, legal teams to make sure that in "free" America everything is on the up and up. (I would suggest contacting Lew Rockwell or Justin Raimondo for info on how hard it is to have an online SITE, let alone a printed edition)
And FINALLY..... we can look back at past experience here on Daily Paul and see that once an entity starts needing to do it right in order to protect itself, and starts "making money" or even "charging money" the accusations start flying about those who own the newsletter and what they are "getting out of this deal" and "how do we know where our money is going". (think blimp, break the matrix, and other endeavors that have received criticism from members of this forum etc.).
Therefore I am very skeptical that such an endeavor would be able to succeed. Don't mean to throw cold water on passion..... but there are financial, legal and psychological realities that must be acknowledged before anyone tries such a feat.
Someone MAY decide to do this as a business venture in the future IF they feel that they can make a profit....but a bunch of excited passionate volunteers will not work.

yes indeed..
*I would imagine that an agreement of acceptance to be clicked on as one would register for an account would serve as a release from intellectual property rights. Michael would own the information submitted to this site (as I believe he already does).
*As for profit incentive to those whom generate articles, a percentile compensation derived from website donations may be enough to bolster the competition for quality journalism. Simply set aside a mandatory minimum donation size necessary to access the newsletter for download. Hypothetically say a donation of a couple of Franklins a month. If a Dp'ers article is selected for newsletter publication, then the individual would receive pre-agreed percentile compensation for their journalistic contributions. This "Free-Prize" would be computed from donations only in the excess of a certain amount in order to best ensure that Michaels regular donations remain untouched and unhindered. Comments included in the newsletter,of course, would not initiate compensation.
* Editor(s), Publication manager(s), Art Designers could also receive a percentile commission from the donations accrued. Or they may receive a percentile commission from sales from the alternative advertisement (See EcoloBlue below for example)
* Advertisements: In order to avoid the cluster headaches from compiling many local advertisements and classifieds from across the nation and distributing them accordingly, use of current sponsors and other 'alternative' companies may be utilized. E.G. EcoloBlue, Efoodsdirect.com. Granted, EcoloBlue may/or may not pay for the advertisement, however proceeds from sales due to that specific add would go to the architect (owner)of the newsletter. Perhaps a "Mention this *Code* and save 15%" option would generate a successful protocol for monitoring how much in sales is generated through this publication).
The only issue with this option may be to have a staff manager capable of taking the orders from the customer and placing them to the appropriate sponsorship.
There has to be a simple software program that would place the paypal deposits to those whom have contributed to the point in which they are awarded a prize for their journalistic endeavors. The main personnel in charge of editing and producing the newsletter may be required to go under a 1099 for tax purposes. The local distributors would also need to maintain their 1099. Journalistic contributors would be awarded prizes for their freelance professional material.
Wuddya Think?
Agreed
Advertising revenue, though attractive is something you would outsource to an Ad Agency who would collect 30-50% of the ad revenue generated. I would assume that the remainder of the revenue would go towards the DailyPaul.
Content would be provided by Bloggers on this site and criteria for what would constitute an acceptable article would have to be created (citing sources, etc).
A reward for participants (who are creating the articles now anyway) is the knowledge that their article is being more widely distributed and perhaps some type of point system within the Daily Paul community that entitled them to special rights, privileges, or maybe some gift paraphernalia.
I am certain we can create a social/tangible reward program and evaluation method to select and encourage articles. Obviously until their is revenue the process will lack the quality control of a larger institution.
Great!!!
We have:
*Product
*Editing
* Art
* Advertisement
* Production
* Distribution
All coming together. Now we need Legal & Copyright oversight. Anyone familiar with FCC? It can't be illegal to disseminate updates on what is going on in Congress can it?
The business model fits. It would work. Consumer base has got to be currently UNSATURATED. So many people are flocking to B2B sales and MLM strategies (and its not working anymore-they offer no product that people want)- but here is a qualitative product worth supporting. The people who care about the message would get their feet in on it before everyone goes to Kindell(sp?).
Got a couple years on this model at least!
BTW: I come across as a greedy S.O.B. Although, that is not my intention, I would like to address the practicality of the time expenditure involved by those whom distribute. They (I) would enjoy feeding my family while dedicating myself to this venture...
Greedy?
Profit motivation is really a desire to improve ones life, which is a feeling all people share. Some people give their money away, some people waste it on pure consumption, to each their own path. Yet the individual desire to improve ones life, family and community is a universal one, and the basis of the argument for freedom.
I have editing experience...
I'd love to help. I think that a PDF formatted Newspaper that could be printed and disseminated by willing volunteers would be good way to increase exposure. This would mimic the decentralized approach that characterized Dr. Paul's campaign, allowing growth to occur as a result of grass roots efforts.
I'm onboard !!!!!
MR. NYSTROM... Michael.. buddy-ole-pal... Can we do this? every couple weeks format a pdf for download for perhaps a donation to your website?
As you can tell by this post, I would not be an editor :(
I know that the purpose of this would not be for profit short term, however, recently unemployed individuals (such as myself) could make a nice little income from this. Not to mention everything the advertisers would get and the increase in name recognition Michael would acquire.
I have yet to even begin to imagine what the cost in ink and paper would be. However, I do believe that I could pander off at least a few thousand copies in a weeks time on my first go at it EASILY! I imagine that it would not take long to establish a subscription base. The only logistical hurdle that I can think of consists of: (1) cost of print, and (2) acquisition of reputable literary material. Perhaps a Bi-monthly publication collated into a pdf file for download & print would be feasable.
The thought of having liberty-minded individuals publicating & distributing these materials. I figure that as long as the author(s) of the articles get their recognition and as well as the appropriate websites get their props then most would be happy. I can't for the life of me figure out how print magazine and newspaper will be able to survive without nationalization. The cost in overhead is abundantly rediculous.
However, if the average newspaper deliverer (who is technically operating their own business) also took on the responsibility of production, supply materials, a distribution then the industry will soar. For the sake of guessing, I would presume a small 6-page publication (front&back of course, 12pg total) would probably cost a total of $0.20-$0.35 per copy to produce-- if one was utilizing a standard reem of paper and a common household printer. With that being said, a $2.oo fee for each non-subscriber would equate to $800- $650 profit per 1000 copies sold (less travel & time expenditures).
I'm not sure, but if I am even close with my estimates, then I would be onboard 150%. Since live near Baltimore/DC, I would have ample opportunity to find a consumer base... Plus, a decompartmentalized grassroots newspaper would be difficult to shut down. So long as the content is "FAIR & BALANCED"hahaha
Great idea, would be quite
Great idea, would be quite easy. I would help with this since I work online with similar works. We could mass print these and have them circulated around the country pretty easily. It would also probably get some media attention if it went viral enough.
I'd suggest the name of it be something else besides daily paul newspaper, as this movement is now more than just Ron Paul. I'm sure we could think of something creative and an appealing pamphlet or newspaper would be easy to make.

The Yes Men hoax - Fake New York Times Prank
http://www.youtube.com/wa...
what if we did the same thing nation wide but with a Ron Paul slant to the paper.
come on come on come on come this could be awesome!!!!!!!!!
heres how we do it
STEP ONE: First we make up a Fake NY Times news paper, think PDF,
filled to the brim with faux Ron paul articles that look real
like, the war is over, pot is legal, the fed closed, bush arrested, etc etc
this pdf would look exactly in format to a real issue of the NY times
STEP TWO, organize a nation wide group of fifty people in fifty cities, who would coordinate locally. think meet up groups, then email them the finalized FAUX TIMES, ready to print.
STEP THREE, organize a nation wide fund drive, need to raise as much money as possible, this is the hard part!
STEP FOUR, have local paper printing companies, they do exist, they print more than you could imagine, ads, papers, catalogs, fliers, etc etc
shop out the job to these companies and start printing, we need to print 2 to 4 million copies. The cheapest game on the block is web press on newsprint. You can get a 1,000 copies of an 8-page tabloid size in black and white for about $500 per print run. Then again, 5,000 of this same rag might be only $1000. Basically, producing plates to print newspapers represents a significant part of the costs, as does getting the print run ready and doing the admin. The paper and ink is less expensive. The first 1,000 papers will usually be very expensive, but after 10,000 copies you'll be paying very little .
STEP FIVE; JULY 4 2009 Headline!
Americans woke up today to find thousands of Ron Paul supporters in every major city, in the streets handing out copies of the NEW YORK TIMES, with the most shocking and heartwarming articles! making them use their brains for once. oh the agony!!!
STEP SIX: ????????????
STEP SEVEN: PROFIT!!!!!
