Staying healthy is essential for survival in hard times

OK

I was just thinking about all the topics on stockin up on this and taking care of that as we all prepare for economic hardship.

What I want to know is what our Daily Paul community is doing to stay strong and healthy? It is easy to get stuck in a rut or get down about things and what I have found is that my whole well being is improved with exercise and eating right.

I have been running about 25-30 miles a week and have been working all the junk out of my diet. I make a point to eat alot of veggies and drink about 64 fl oz of water a day. I feel great. My wife and I have entered some 5k's and 10 k's to keep us motivated.

I think it's important we are all conscious of this. We spend alot of time building our mental state by being informed and aware, but shouldn't we prepare our physical state as well?

What are you all doing to stay "physically prepared"? Is it eating food you grow? Is it exercise? What do you say?

This is what I follow:

westonaprice.org. Which is basically eating whole foods, raw dairy and fermented foods. I take cod liver daily and make sure I get enough probiotics. Exercise is also very important.

YES

Sally Fallon, author of Nourishing Traditions and founder of the Weston Price Foundation, probably influences my diet more than any other expert. I'm healthy, thin...no problems.

Great book

Best cook book to buy ( actually it's much more than just a cook book). I discovered this book and the Weston A Price Foundation through a site called Healing Naturally by Bee. This a must for people suffering from the modern American diet.

Yes! this is my cookbook too

I love this whole thing, the only one that makes sense, really, natural foods, cooked in traditional ways. And locally grown. And preserved to keep enzymes, etc. LOVE it.

Thanks for the site (westonaprice.org)

"Wise traditions in food, farming and the healing arts." . . links added for "activist".

Choose to eat a plant-centered diet. Eat more organic, locally grown vegetables and grains, less meat, less dairy. Eat as close to vegetarian as you are comfortable with. Make the proper food and exercise choices and you wont be so sick, and can think more clearly and have more energy for this global movement.
And never forget, “Humans, despite our artistic pretensions, our sophistication and many accomplishments, owe the fact of our existence to a six-inch layer of topsoil and the fact that it rains.”

Seriously........

what you all need to decide internally is whether or not you're going to give up your firearms when they are outlawed.

Take that first brave stand.

Who will outlaw them?

A well regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed

As I read, we cannot be disarmed. Any attempt will be considered an act of treason.

I cut my smoking down to about a pack a day ( cough ) :)

Great Topic

What we put into our bodies and minds is of the utmost importance at this stage in not only our nations' history, but also the world. There is really no higher maxim than "you are what you eat." If you research it enough, you'll find that 99% of Americans are nutritionally starved and only eat about 15 foods - (ie. chicken, potatoes, etc. are all served at different restaurants).

Its an absurdity and a travesty that many people are living a life that they hate, many wanting simply to end it all, especialy on a "bad day." In my experience and IMHO, this is primarily caused by poor nutrition and watching network news, lol. The road to wellness whether it be economic, political, sociological, etc. are revolutionary food/medicines called Superfoods.

You could eat fresh juices and veggies all day long for the rest of your life(which I still recommend), but you will never get the proper nutrition from them because they are only as good as the topsoil you grow them in, unfortunately most all soil has been depleted of minerals since at least 1936 (How many generations of Americans is that?).

Superfoods like cacao, goji berries, and marine phytoplankton when consumed can give a person nutrients and minerals they have never had in their entire life, even their family tree going back may have never had them either, can you imagine?

I have been consuming these things since the beginning of the year and I am literally having the best day ever, all day, every day. The whole world could be ending but I would still feel great.

The external reality is merely a reflection of what's inside of us, take care of the inner and you will take care of the outer.

Let me get this straight.

"The whole world could be ending but I would still feel great."

Is that supposed to sound appealing?

What was that quote about reality being the most depressing for those in touch with it?

Thanks for the link Sygnus

All very good points.

I think the biggest mistake people make is they "go on a diet". My wife who is an Exercise Physiologist has always said "its a change in lifestyle". a diet is a temporary fasting to achieve a certain size and weight. It almost always results in relapse to a higher weight. If you change your eating habits and lifestyle, the benifits are life changing!

Hi Dexter

I think what you're doing is fantastic & keep up the good work. The formula is pretty simple: proper nutrition + regular exercise = good health. I also believe physical activity is vital to our mental well-being, especially when you're learning about the world gone mad all around us. I personally have fallen off the wagon in both diet & exercise over the last 18 months and feel like crap. But, our garden is growing well and hoping for 1st fresh veggies in 6-8 weeks. I need to get back to running again. Staying consistent is the hard part for me. ...and I freaking love cheeseburgers & tater chips!

lol!!! i TOTALLY know what you mean!!!

i love food. i mean i LOVE food!!! i'm ALWAYS falling off the wagon!!

so i cope by drinking lots of red wine. gotta have a couple glasses everyday!! :)

doing an intense raw juice cleanse every few months helps! as does hot yoga. not bikrams. that's nazi yoga. just mild hot yoga. one studio i go to converted their hot yoga studio into an infrared studio which ROCKS because it is SUPER good for cleansing your pores.

you should see if you have a studio in your area. like this...

Thanks for the info!! I will look into the juicing too - I think a cleanse might be a good way to get back to it. Thanks for the inspiration all.
