Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, announced today that it forced the Obama administration to release documents about the October 13, 2008, Treasury Department meeting that coerced major banks to allow the government to take $250 billion equity stakes. Among the other news, the documents confirm former Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson told the CEOs of nine major banks that they had no choice but to allow the government to take equity stakes in their institutions. The documents show Obama Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner, FDIC Chairman Shelia Blair, and Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke co-hosted the meeting with Paulson.
Judicial Watch filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request about the bankers meeting on October 16, 2008. After months of stonewalling, a FOIA lawsuit was filed against the Obama Treasury Department on January 27, 2009. Incredibly, on February 4, Treasury responded it had no documents about the historic meeting. Pressure from Judicial Watch forced Treasury to reevaluate its response, which resulted in this document release last month. Included in the new documents are:

since 1913. Your local mom and pop bank on the corner is just an "agent" of the monster Federal Reserve. Like a local Chevy dealer, they bear the expense of running their day to day operations, but are afforded a liberal interest rate spread to provide income, but the real power of money making is with the Fed. They create money out of nothing and then lend it with interests to the local bank to "retail" out to the community in the form of loans that are repaid with real money plus interest. What a gig! Crisis? What crisis?

It's hard for me to tell
what all the fuss is about. While I'm delighted that Judicial Watch has obtained these documents, and while they give clear evidence that the gov't used coercion against the banks, to a certain extent I feel that the Treasury, Fed, and banks are all colluding with each other against us, and their contracts amongst each other are usually corrupt anyway...isn't this more of the same old story?
What's so bad about nationalizing the banks? How much worse is that than the "private" bank system, which owes its existence to the Fed and answers to government laws?

Okay, it seems like so much is coming out but when are the heads going to roll??? When is there enough evidence to do something? Seems like nothing ever happens with the mountain ranges of evidence and crimes. Its very frustrating.
I am curious though how FOIA actually compels the criminals to hand over paperwork...why don't they just "lose" it before its turned over? Its surprising to me that any of this stuff ever gets out legally unless its leaked.

A site that promotes Dr. Paul's freedom then turns around and edits posts at will without the courage to even announce themselves when they do so. Bad enough to edit someones thought without permission, but to do so and hide yourself is cowardly as well as shameful
