Food Inflation - Help?

I found this link pertaining to AZ where I live.

I have been studying the downfall of the Weimar Republic & Argentina lately. I am trying to gauge the food prices & how inflation has been affecting the "basket of items" (grocery) that I keep reading/seeing on various sites. I was going to take the list of items from the following link & price compare tomorrow because I know that most of these items have nearly doubled in price since 2006 (at least in AZ).

My question - does anyone know a more accurate way to gauge the real rate of inflation?

I have already been following www.shadowstats.com but does anyone else know of anything more current or accurate/other sites/etc?

I bring this up - because the article I am reading ( http://www.mises.org/web/4016#pg68 ) about Weimar is saying that in 1922 - most people knew prices were rising, but not the reason why or how fast... and that by the time (1923) most people figured it out, they were wiped out...

Hoping to use some form of statistics to wake a few more friends up to what's really going on in the u.SofA & stress the importance of HR 1207 or END the FED, etc.

Thank you,
Shawn

for others. You have a very good idea, sorry I am not helpful. Maybe look at how often they raise the price of stamps. Years ago the price stayed steady the last few years it seems like it is raising every 9 or 10 months.

way to follow food prices

this seems obvious, but I've been keeping most all of my grocery store receipts for more than year, and I usually buy the same stuff, a month or so I checked and the prices were not that much higher than last year, I was suprised. Anyhow if you start saving receipts now that will give you your best data. Also you have to remember, at least here in CA, the produce prices go way down at certain times of year, etc.

another thought

What has changed though is the wages...lots of people including my husband have had hours cut, no more overtime, unpaid furloughs, more taken out of paycheck for health care, etc and of course probably more taken out in tax at least here in CA...so I don't know how you figure that in.

one more thing

Kind of off topic, but I'm estimating at least 50 percent of the people buying groceries where I shop aren't paying for them at all...using WIC, food stamps, whatever, and I get pretty angry sometimes when I see all the obvious illegal immigrants getting free groceries while I'm paying for mine in cash. The way I see it, they have no investment in this country, this isn't even their country, they don't seem to have any gratefulness for the free food or any shame in taking it. So I was just discussing with my husband tonight, this certainly must affect food prices. One time, the grocery store couldn't accept food stamps for a couple of days, and the whole place was empty. I do remember Ron Paul said he would end entitlements to illegal immigrants and I agree. One of the reasons I voted for Ron Paul! I would like to know that statistics on how many people are getting their groceries "free" from the government. I'll bet it is sky high.

Great idea. Please share
