The Explorers program, a coeducational affiliate of the Boy Scouts of America that began 60 years ago, is training thousands of young people in skills used to confront terrorism, illegal immigration and escalating border violence — an intense ratcheting up of one of the group’s longtime missions to prepare youths for more traditional jobs as police officers and firefighters.
“This is about being a true-blooded American guy and girl,” said A. J. Lowenthal, a sheriff’s deputy here in Imperial County, whose life clock, he says, is set around the Explorers events he helps run. “It fits right in with the honor and bravery of the Boy Scouts.”
The training, which leaders say is not intended to be applied outside the simulated Explorer setting, can involve chasing down illegal border crossers as well as more dangerous situations that include facing down terrorists and taking out “active shooters,” like those who bring gunfire and death to college campuses. In a simulation here of a raid on a marijuana field, several Explorers were instructed on how to quiet an obstreperous lookout.
“Put him on his face and put a knee in his back,” a Border Patrol agent explained. “I guarantee that he’ll shut up.”

Why was he held at gunpoint to begin with?
And why don't they see that that's a detail that must be clarified?
In defense of the Boy Scouts of America
In case you didn't notice, I posted a few times on this topic because I support the Boy Scouts and am an Eagle Scout myself. As well, I use my real name, not an alias... I think there is a lot of name calling, like "troll" on this topic, which is sad - especially from people who use an alias.
If you have a problem with what the Explorers are doing, you should contact them directly with your concerns. Maybe you should volunteer your time and help one of these organizations to make sure the youth are getting the correct message. Why not contact them and try to go to one of their meetings to see what really goes on.
The Liberty/Freedom movement should be talking to Boy Scouts and Explorers, since they are probably pretty sympathetic to the cause of personal liberty.
Explorers don't do merit badges, they are in career training - thus these training simulation exercises.
Boy Scouts work on merit badges, like this one (Citizenship in the Nation) which is required for all boys to earn before they reach the rank of Eagle. Please note number 4 below.

After reading this, you should realize that Ron Paul supporters should be in contact with the Boy Scouts since they may become the future leaders of the movement. The main goal of the Boy Scouts is to develop the future leaders of the country (public, private, military, etc).
Maybe you should make sure they hear the right message yourself, instead of complaining on this forum and calling people names.

In your world cops are in perfect control of their emotions and the natural chemical dump that happens after breaking up youths fighting on train is perfectly nullified by their perfect training THUSLY whatever they do is 100% intentional. These were BART Cops -- Not Police or Sheriff. BART has its own police force -- I'm not an expert in their training or their tactics; but I would imagine (I'm guessing) they pull cadets from police acadamies.

I am religious in my posts because I am a christian who knows murder is wrong and would never make excuses for it if its a cop, drunk driver whatever it does not matter. Now he may have freaked out and pulled his gun (yea right! with 4 guys holding down a 140lb 20 year old kid) last time he did not mean to pull his gun and thought it was a taser as if there was any excuse for that either. You cant even keep your excuses straight. The idea that cops or anybody else can claim "condition black" or "temporary insanity" and get away with murder is totally ridiculous, but especially so for law enforcement because of the power they have. Have you been living in a cave somewhere and not noticed in recent years all the cases of police abusing their power? I flipped it on cnn the other day and they just calmly report that in Louisiana police are just randomly pulling people over and robbing them at gunpoint. Of course we need police but its painfully obvious something has gone really wrong as this NYT article proves.

I told my dad about this yesterday. As many of you may know, he's a Viet Vet and was a paramedic. It reminded him of the Viet Cong using kids to fight for their causes. I believe in respecting the laws but what this monsterous murdering government is doing is trying to use our kids against those of us who are busy helping other respectful Americans. I noticed a couple full blown trolls and what seemd like maybe genuine sympathy for this brainwashing and police state activity.
This is ugly on its face.
These kids want to shoot bad guys when they grow up, which is totally normal. But, inevitably, there are not enough bad guys to go around and so these little pricks will be poking you and me for money for not having a sticker or a license or a permit or putting something in our body or mind. Consider what history teaches us...
Consider history, the Declaration of Independence, and the Constitution, and you will not go wrong when considering the propriety of these groups engaging in such new age training.
History tells us what our fathers have found useful for these boys and their respective organizations, what has worked well, and what has been shunned and set aside through many years of refining these organizations. From this we learn that this latest venture into militarization is a response to a new call from beyond our founding principles, from ideas and organizations found without this land of liberty and very limited government. That alone should tell us that such training is not really within the useful parameters of such organizations, any more than it would have been during the WWI or WWII.
We have tremendously resourceful and free citizens, far superior in capability than those few sitting in congress. Those members of congress have forgotten their duty to restrain government and to a large degree so have the electorate. As a result we see encroaching upon society the obvious preparations of a fascist state, even though one could argue that individual activity might be a right, as well as a useful tool in life.
Nevertheless history teaches us that resourceful citizenry have considered and reconsidered these issues over and over, throughout centuries of adapting to events, and no society of free people ever decided to force or allow such training it's young folk! The only clear use in history of such has been power from above inculcating the need for more power and the force to keep that dictatorial power.
It is to be seriously doubted that the idea to engage in these extreme measures was thought up by, funded by, and facilitated or initiated by, the grassroots. Rather the opposite is usually the case when the ultimate aim is perfidious and deceitful. If the people want to engage in such, pay for it, control it, and liberty benefits from it, then blessings be upon them!
A creature which bears the symptoms and senses of a monster, though clothed in diapers, is nevertheless a monster. Continuous immersion in such activity and behavior will indeed produce the desired soldier and clones. It should also be seriously doubted that parents assembled, and inspired by their forefathers, chose to engage their children in this new type of scouting... it would have been done long ago already if it were deemed wise by the people. But, it was not!
Only dictators have taken the young as soldiers, and that is commonplace not only throughout history, but all over the world today!

To claim the issue of rights and skills, is to obfuscate the issue. Do it on your own, pay for it yourself, enjoy, and be a freeman in so doing!

This kind of freaked me out, but then I remembered,
these are American kids. Too malnourished, too institutionalized, and too braindead by the TV, to be critical thinkers or leaders. Mindless drones.
I look at the slideshow of these kids and I see some of them laughing cause they're getting their picture taken, and they see the absurdity in what they're doing. "Look, we're being bad-asses!" But when reality hits, and these kids actually have to face true violence, they'll be cowering in fear. Shooting, but not aiming, and suffering from years of shell-shock just like our boys in Iraq.
But I recognize some of the DPer's concerns: a soldier with a gun, is still a soldier with a gun, regardless of their intellectual capacity.
My biggest fear are the pigs. Pigs with tazers who torture for a living.
