Taking the Daily Paul to the Next Level?
As much as I enjoy the free wheeling debate, discussion and banter, I'm wondering if there is another level this forum could reach in pursuit of our collective goal of promoting liberty. With the teaming creativity the lies within its membership, I'm guessing there are numerous ways to harness the untapped power of 30,000 daily viewers to more effectively let our voices be heard. Therefore this thread is a call for your ideas on how the DP could be used to take it to the next level of activism.
Here are my two:
1. Come up with a way that topics and discussions can be voted on. A quantitative assessment can often add clarity and verification to an issue of importance.
2. Come up with a way to call for a daily email bomb on a target of interest. Imagine the impact that 30,000 emails could have on the psyche of the receipent!

Less busy design and Kevin Tuma
Feature Kevin Tuma's cartoons right on the front page all the time. Cleaner HTML design. Take a look at Slashdot, Digg, etc... They look nice and clean.
Also, enforce the guidelines. Whether it's atheism threads or conspiracy threads, I am sick of distracting topics that scare away new supporters and divide us. If we really care for freedom we gotta stop shooting ourselves in the foot.
Register as Republican and Vote for Ron Paul
The right column Active
The right column Active Forum Topics should have more listed (maybe 20-30) and the Recent blog posts should be fewer (maybe just 5). In the navigation menu, the Create Content item should be expanded, if not eliminated, and just offer Forum Topic since that is all we can add to the site anyway. Bring the Navigation Menu up higher in the column, instead of all the way at the bottom. There could also be a tab in the Primary Links for a Videos Page where good suggested videos from the Videos Forum are embedded. The Polls Module could also be utilized and add a Most Recent Poll block to the frontpage. Add the Flag Module so we can bookmark our favorite posts.
These would make DP just a little better and it would only take an hour or so to do.

Suggestion...
I think it is important to not duplicate efforts.
Downsize DC (http://www.downsizedc.org/) is a great liberty-minded group. They use what they call an "Educate the Powerful" system they use to send thousands of emails to their representatives. It would be great if you could organize a weekly effort to have people communicate to their leaders through a system like that. There is no need to reinvent the wheel.
Double Second...
For DownsizeDC.org! Excellent setup there for a great organization. But I can't debate bible thumpers there...

Fossils Rock!
'Cause there's a monster on the loose
Second that
DownsizeDC.org is a great resource and I highly recommend it. I find it a little sad that they are growing so slowly when it seems to me that every dailypauler/ron pauler should use it. It makes it so easy to contact your reps and anyone regardless of time constraints can afford 5 minutes a month to do so on some issue or another.
Ralph
you have some great ideas and the comments down below are also good. I am afraid that my brain is in neutral and I can't come up with anything. Thanks, for all that you do. Love the Daily Paul, Love Freedom
Prepare & Share the Message of Freedom through Positive-Peaceful-Activism.
Thanks
Patience, you will probably wake up with something brillant in the morning.
Some great ideas here
but let's spare poor Michael and not pile any more work on him than he already has on DP! One of our other warhorses needs to step up to the plate and volunteer to implement these ideas...
Anyone? Anyone?
I might field the live events portion
again, if ppl think it's a good idea, i can get daily paul a publisher account to create online video panel events so guest speakers can broadcast their videos live and take video calls from the listeners.
the huffington post and the young turks have already expressed interest in the platform, so i think we can definitely pull in a lot of great speakers like tom woods, jesse ventura, michael badnarik, rand paul etc. we could also do a joint effort with other freedom communities like campaign for liberty. maybe we can also start a DP petition for the guests as an additional incentive.
i might need some help in booking our slew of guests, but we can make the first series of live events happen as soon as mid-june.
anyone that wants to be a key part in organizing these events, feel free to email me at:
robert@vokle.com
thanks!
I agree
Using the collective resources is the whole idea.
I wish someone who has a personal contact to RP could pitch him the idea of publishing a Youtube every Sunday night listing the specific people that need to be contacted and email bombed that week. Committee members, TV hosts, Governors, detractors like Lindsey Graham, etc.
As I see it the full expression of support at his disposal is lying dormant, which if you consider the entire RP nation - could total 100,000 electronic soilders - just waiting for the call!
Why don't we have an "I-Phone APP" for the dailypaul and C4L
and for the I-Pod touch as well, it could be about economy facts, games, quizzes, dailypaul or C4L quick up date, pop-up quotes from freedom loving people, we can have RP in a game battling against the "FED" or whatever, a lot of people have them why not tap that source of spreading the message of liberty by doing that, we can also have a "MONEYBOMB" feature from the dailypaul or C4L that lets you track or donate from your I-Phone or I-Pod touch.
p.s. just giving ideas here.
Excellante'
!
I've suggested this before
I've suggested this before to Michael. We need to be able to get together. Upload the Organic Groups Drupal module. Yeah, we could join "Restore the Republic" or "Freeople", but we are here now! Let us group together! That way we won't need the interweb when Cybersecurity Act of 2009 passes, regardless if this site shuts down, we will still be able to congregate.

The Way to Truly "Unmute” Our Voices on a Mass Scale
imagine if we could harness the power of our giant freedom rallies on a recurring basis and share them with millions of people. we have no shortage of speakers and certainly no shortage of revolutionaries. why not take it to the next level? it’s my opinion that we should use live, online video events to build unity and expand the cause.
right now, i'm working on a project (www.vokle.com) that is best described as a live ‘video-radio show' platform that would allow speakers like ron paul, adam kokesh, jesse ventura, or michael badnarik to easily come together via their webcams to speak to a room of thousands of interested people live. that alone is neat. but, the platform has the unique ability to take live video calls from the audience as well! that means any of us can get in line to ask ron paul a question live, literally face to face. it’s essentially our own Daily Paul news station.
my motivation in creating vokle (which is all about being "vocal") reached a head during ron paul's New Hampshire primary..he came in 5th i believe. and i was on DP as the votes were being tallied (inside a 'knock-knock' text chatroom). other DP users were typing, “it doesn’t make any sense. where'd we go wrong?” admittedly, i was a bit depressed myself. i chided, “we didn't go 'wrong'....we just didn't have a loud enough mic to take on mainstream media, which had suaded public opinion to who they thought would be the winners.” it's battle of the mics IMO.
i think if we can unmute our voices and create a series of high-profile events in support of liberty, we can start stirring the pot in a big way, and cascade the net with the message. the best part for me is that these online speaker panels can be used for fundraisers and charity events as well. so rand paul, watch out. :p
any thoughts gang?
I think your reputation has proceeded you
Are you the guy who knows Feldo? A friend of mine told me about vokle and what you guys were doing like 6 months ago.
do i know your friend?
hmm, don't know feldo. does he work in tech?
we've been developing the site for a while though (it's been in alpha for 6 months), and has gone thourgh a series of iterations. we've taken a lot of great feedback in, and it seem that people have been waiting for a user-friendly, "classy" way to create live video interviews, and that's what we've been fine tuning recently.
we're launching the site officially this summer.
feldo...hmm...
ah
well, you would remember if you knew him. he's kind of an unforgettable guy, but must know one of you guys at vokle. the degrees of seperation are getting smaller and smaller.
i've signed up to receive notice when you guys launch.
good luck, and thank you.
it's a great idea and i forsee it being an important internet advancment.
I like it!
Great Ideas on the DP - that's what I'm talking about!
As always Ralph, you're using your head! Thank you for
a great thread!!! This is what I like to see.....creative juices flowing and ideas a-happenin! Like what Ernie Hancock asks, "How many minds did we free today?" I like that. Because not only is it in my best interest, but in everyone's best interest that people get educated really, really quick!
If we get more people every day realizing how to 'discern' a crook from a an earnest Liberty-minded person, we are doing our job!
I think if you can come up with an idea then be the leader of it and take the action you think it deserves.
For example: How many on DP have considered being their own leader by making arrangements to bring Michael Badnarik to your town to educate the populace there? Every one of Michaels' weekends should be booked by now just by individualistic leaders right here reading this thread!
Imagine by the end of this year how many people will have been empowered with such knowledge! Its mind blowing what we can do as individuals. We have to stop thinking that we can only operate in groups. That is simply not true.
There is that saying, "Never underestimate the passion of one person."
"The courage of one man is a majority" - Andrew Jackson
Please don't change the content...
Whatever you do! I also love the format.

ever find it wierd
that we need a "pursuit of our collective goal of promoting liberty" to get away from the collective?
Ya, I know, I am of no help

Have a daily email bomb. As much fun as it is to talk and post ron paul links, the most effective thing we can do as a site is to organize efforts to influence those in power. Emailing those ppl is our most effective tool.
What a Great Idea!
I think this is a great way to not only get the creativity flowing, but to effect Ron Paul's ideas into a new paradigm that could sweep the country!
betty
30,000 Daily Viewers?
How does that math work? There are usually roughly a few hundred users and guests, counted below, here at one time. Multiply that by even 24 hours and that is nowhere near 30,000.
Is there something I am missing?
Here are the stats
http://www.sitemeter.com/?a=stats&s=s30dailypaul
There is a little white box with a green graph at the bottom of the site. Click it to get to the page above.
Things have slowed down a bit lately - running about 25,000 visitors daily these days.
Depends on if it's based
Depends on if it's based upon different viewers or just hits. If it's based upon hits then that can be deceptive because if an individual viewer jumps from page to page, those are probably counted as hits. So I might actually visit Daily Paul only once a day, but while there I might jump around fifteen or twenty times to different articles or posts. So depending on how you look at it or how it's counted, my one visitor session could be looked at as 20 views or just 1 view. If the average visitor does the same thing I do, and the 30,000 is based upon hits then that would translate into around 1,500 visitors per day If there really are 30,000 different people visiting the site every day then that would be a significant emailing force. Even so, if it was only 1,500 visitors, if I received 1,500 emails in one day that would certainly freak me out!

bump for creativity, and
bump for creativity, and forward thinking...
I have an idea
1) leave dailypaul.com alone
2) create subdomain for a new "colony." (name it jamestown.dailypaul.com or something to that effect.)
3) Nystrom hand-picks a few dozen colonists who have demonstrated themselves to the message of freedom. (Preferably no disinfo agents.)
4) invite input to a DailyPaul Constitution of what we can cannot allow at this new jamestown. (My only amendment would be "No Fear-based articles.") only apply the Constitution to this new subdomain.
5) Form subcommittees and think-tanks for actions plans (emailing bombing people could be said action. i have seen several really good ones on here.)
6) The goal of the colony will be to create a world that works for everyone.
7) If things pick up, we can open it up to others.
8) If at first we don't succeed, repeat steps 1 through 7 until we perfect our effectiveness.
What do you think?
That's deep.
I'm reminded of a post the other day that talked about creating a "free" colony on the moon. But that's just the little cynic voice cracking a joke (which I have made that voice's job). I think this idea has a lot of merit, if not vis a vis Nystrom, it is still a good foundation for a "think-tank." I'm sure some there are a couple constitutional experts around here, and other places on the web, which have the time and motivation to work on that kind of project.
I think that even though I bet you would get some critics around here, if anyone were to lead that kind of program, Nystrom is the guy to do it.
