Lindsey Graham: Torture works! Graham Goes Medieval ( video)
In today’s hearing on detainee interrogations, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) attempted to defend the Bush administration’s torture program. “Let’s have both sides of the story here,” Graham declared, saying there could be evidence that torture provided “good information.” Graham then made the puzzling claim that since torture has been used for half a millenium, it “apparently” is useful:
The Vice President is suggesting that there was good information obtained, and I’d like the committee to get that information. Let’s have both sides of the story here. I mean, one of the reasons these techniques have survived for about 500 years is apparently they work.
Former FBI interrogator Ali Soufan responded, “Because, sir, there’s a lot of people who don’t know how to interrogate, and it’s easier to hit somebody than outsmart them.” Watch it:

what most of you dont know...
is that these things had been going on since american policy started to change into an expansionist empire a century ago.
here is a blast from the past: american soldiers torturing a Filipino Citizen 1898,in the first sovereign nation the USMilitary attacked by force:
http://i657.photobucket.com/albums/uu300/engrjuancarlosayeng...
Filipino soldiers fighting for the First Republic in Asia are reduced to this treatment. The guerilla war hasnt even started yet.
the press/US colonial planners then, did damage control by making a psych-stopper "for the masses" "catchphrase": "WATER CURE". using "cure" immediately conjures up something positive. and not torture, which is the reality.
this has been going on for a long time my American friends. and it is done "in your name",while pscyh "labels" and press "feel good" stories to distract and provide your fellow ordinary citizens with opium ,not only to make such practices acceptable, but to mislead your hearts to offer yourself, your siblings, and your grandchildren on the meatgrinder of the ambitions of a few of your countrymen. be wary the next time the press, and hollywood romanticize war with repeating catchphrases of "sacrificing onself on the altar of freedom"---there is too much manipulation in this mantra repetition in your media.
here is another hanging by US troops in the Philippines in the 1900s. the big issue is that these are "policy", like water torture--and american soldiers killing "anybody above 10years old" when the Philippines was being invaded. http://i657.photobucket.com/albums/uu300/engrjuancarlosayeng...
He's right...
because after hearing all the A$$HOLE roaches that inhabit out government and the torture they spread everytime they open their mouths, or OUR pocketbooks, I'm ready to believe that there is no tomorrow and give up. Of course perserverance is key here. Will they be able to outlive wisdom with their stupidity, outlast morality with their greed, or preserve inhumanity while goodness withers away? No. There is a tipping point for all things and ideas. There is a turning of the tide. And there will be a return of the day after a long dark night. Be prepared, the torture will end for both those poor individuals our politicians so evily overlook while our military and hired thugs physically and mentally abuse as well as our citizenry who are financially abused to fund the afore mentioned abuse. One question should be on our lips, "When will we refuse consent to our government using us as tools of torture?" The answer to that question will be our line in the sand, it will be when and where we make our stand, it will be the time of great uproar and trepedation. And to this end we must begin evoking a message to our feral government - "Beware what you wish on your enemies, for you are forming the populace of this nation into that image. We will not stop when aroused untill our affliction is destroyed, and at present we have a geat and growing itch."

I have long said that the
I have long said that the baby boom generation should hope that my generation did not learn the lessons they tried to teach us: that there is a life not worth living, that the old are not worth listening to, and that ending "unnecessary" is not only acceptable, it may actually be virtuous. If we have learned these lessons, they will be unleashed upon our parents in the near future to catastrophic results.
In much the same way, the government should hope that we have not learned the lessons that they taught us: the ends justify the means, if something gets in your way, destroy it, and the suffering of the individual is not to be compared with the benefits to society. If the tables should turn, will they want to submit to their own concept of justice.
But no, we must rise above those who would teach us and show them a better way -- a way of justice with mercy, strength of character with compassion, integrity with love.
Human sacrifices were also
Human sacrifices were also done for hundreds of years... Should we do those as well?
All that needs to happen is
those pics released from Australia of the torture incidents (provided they are real of course) become associated with the current Republican administration's policies and you'll see the rats start jumping ship...
Pragmatism vs Principle
As I read and watch the various comments by Lindsey Graham, it ultimately comes down to a question of pragmatism versus principle. When he quipped "I'm a winner", he was saying that it doesn't matter what kind of man he is or what his beliefs are, winning is all that matters.
This philosophy is far more pervasive than we realize, and we have all succumbed to it at one point or another. This is what fuels the debate on torture. It doesn't matter if it is right or wrong -- only that the end result (security) is achieved. Unfortunately, this also applies to many libertarians. The end result for many -- personal liberty and prosperity -- is the ultimate goal instead the of the desire to pursue justice, law, and truth.
This is a fundamental question that we all must consider and answer: do we believe what we believe because it is right, or do we believe what believe because it works (or we believe that it will work).
I believe that there are universal Truths in this world that I should strive for even when it hurts. For example, when I say that I am pro-life, that goes well beyond abortion. It means that fundamentally, all life is sacred. It means that I should seek every peaceful alternative necessary to avoid bloodshed -- even if it means risking my life and those of my family -- because it is right.
So how about you? Do you believe in absolute truth? Do you believe in right and wrong? And if not, on what grounds can you judge those on Capital Hill and Wall Street or people like Lindsey Graham?
Well Said...
Lindsey Graham just named his price.
Fear is all it takes for him to sell out, run for the hills, and turn traitor.
No honor, no integrity...
An empty shell of a man with no inner light.
Well said, Khomar!
This is also, in my mind , a crucial question! I surely do not understand how one can be pro-life and at the same time justify torture, murder and destruction. I believe the American attitude of "exceptionalism" is so pervasive in our society that it is commonly acceptable for true principles to be sacrificed for the "win".
If that is "winning" then I want no part of it under any party affiliation! I fear the GOP, for one, sees nothing wrong with their principles at all and only seek a superficial re-branding in order to win...the same goes for the democrats who are now hypocritically applauding "the good war". I believe the real battle to be fought is more sociological and psychological than the false political paradigms that are used to divide.

If the US government condones and says torture is legal
Should the 3 branches of the US government be tortured until they start following the constitution?
I'm going to vent.
What a horridly despicable dirty little evil crap pellet. Lindsey Graham is a worthless sack of burnt road kill. Why didn't Lindsey list the occurrences of torture which were done by good people for good reasons to collect good information? Because there is no such list. Lindsey is standing on the junk pile of history and claiming he's conquered the mountain of life. In the words of Obi Wan: "Only a master of evil, Darth."
Republicans Laud Obama’s Hawkish Tack ( Sen. Graham RINO)
With President Obama’s policy shifts of the past week, he has found a new cheering section: Republican Congressmen. Senator Lindsey Graham (R - SC) in particular cheered the moves, lauding what he called “intelligent, well-reasoned decisions about trying to clean up the old system but not throwing it out.”

Graham getting pwned in comments!
Here are just a few....
* Prostitution is the world's oldest profession, right? The reason it's been around since the dawn of civilization is because it works. Sen. Graham, I support your efforts to legalize prostitution
* I guess Graham thinks that McCain was justly TORTURED.
.
*Human sacrifice - preferably of children - has been practiced in many human societies for many thousands of years, to appease the gods and ensure that the sun rises and the rains fall. Since sun continues to rise and rain continues to fall, it's pretty obvious that human sacrifice works, and we should not give up on this practice any time soon.
