I believe this interview works, largely in spite of what the interviewer (George Siegel?) may have intended the overall effect to be. This is entirely because Dr. Paul Knows the Issues, has policy perspectives that have emerged from Philosophical Principle, and he Believes in that Principle.
He also gets right to the point and has a natural affability that really makes him unsmearable...as long as people hear him speak for himself and not get their opinions of him second hand from neo-conservative media sources, for instance.
But what was with Siegel's comment about people tuning in to the net to watch puppies chew sticks? Seems to me we were tuning in to the net to listen to that NPR interview, too. That's the old school media elitism that will contribute to their further marginalization as information dissemination continues to de-centralize, which truly is a blessing.
As most of us know NPR is the bastion of liberals, the save-the whales, drive a Volvo and recycle gang. I admire them and used to be one myself, though I never owned a Volvo nor saved a single whale. Back then I thought all republicans were like Fred "Flubber" Thompson: fat cigar-smoking wheeler-dealers who didn't care about me one bit, nor anybody else except their friends at the club, their Prozac-happy wives and their caddies.
But that was all B.R.P. (before Ron Paul).
For any republican to tout an anti-war message had been unthinkable, since war meant defense contracts and pork, but Ron Paul broke the mold. And, even more impressive (to liberals) is the notion to bring all the soldiers home from around the world. To liberals, and anybody with any sense, that is a wonderful idea.
That Ron Paul was given such prominence on NPR is a coup, even better than the New York Times piece. This is just great.
Don't miss the issues they've separated out on the left, more than just the initial interview! It was great!
