First off, I am guilty. Guess I will have to start using paper instead of plastic ? My whole world turned upside down (tears).

Credit Card Industry Aims to Profit From Sterling Payers
Published: May 18, 2009

[Snip]

Credit cards have long been a very good deal for people who pay their bills on time and in full. Even as card companies imposed punitive fees and penalties on those late with their payments, the best customers racked up cash-back rewards, frequent-flier miles and other perks in recent years.

Robert Hammer, an industry consultant, said the legislation might have the broad effect of encouraging card issuers to become ever more reliant on fees from marginal customers as well as creditworthy cardholders — “deadbeats” in industry parlance, because they generate scant fee revenue.

Good point about the "deadbeats".

In England, the Egg Card company responded to the credit crunch by cancelling the credit cards of two types of customer.

1. those who didn't make minimum payments (regular deadbeat).
2. those who paid the balance off each month in full (banking industry "deadbeat").

Interesting to note that the German retail chain Aldi (fastest growing chain in Britain) refuses credit cards because of the fees charged to them by the credit card company. Its not just the customers who pay!

If You....

Are out of control with your personal spending, can't save the money and wait to make a purchase with cash, and need to buy it today with a credit card, while racking up huge personal debts....

How do you have any right to criticize the government for doing on a large scale the same thing you yourself are doing in your daily life?

And why would you continue to do business with the same people you complain about - the banksters who run the credit card companies?

These are questions I asked myself a few years back, and I did something about it....I found this guy...

And changed my life...

Now I feel like I do have a right to critique our governments overspending, and feel honest when I call for more personal responsibility from all of us.

And I'm looking forward to the day my credit score is Zero. (your credit score is not a reflection of how successful you are - but how good you are at being a slave to the banksters)

In response to posters below

saying they are thinking about maxing out their credit cards and defaulting. Back in the '70's I worked with a guy at Brach Candy Company that would buy you a TV or anything else you wanted on his credit cards for half price cash. You have to admit, the guy was thinking. The last time I saw him he had a suitcase full of $20 bills, half price too.

Not a dead beat...

just a slacker and a "truther" god forbid. 911 Truthers killing politicians campaigns around the globe. Wake up and smell the nano-thermite. I see not paying CC Debt as my little way of stickin it to the man. If they ask you if you have a lawyer say yes Seth Katz It's a name I got off a radio commercial here in NY.

NO SUCH THING AS A FREE LUNCH

People here ought to know that there is no such thing as a free lunch. Those airline miles you think you are getting for free when you pay our credit cards on time are costing you about 3% of our credit card purchases.

The credit card companies charge the stores about 3% of the cost of the sale. Who do you think really pays that 3%? The store passes the cost on to you, the consumer! For this reason, I seek out businesses that don't accept credit cards, or that give a discount for using cash.

So what is happening is, the credit card companies are not satisfied with the 3% they add to the cost of products and services, they want you to pay your bills late so they can tax on exorbitant interest.

Why do people still use credit cards? They open you up to identity theft. They invade your financial privacy. And they cost you money.

Cash is king. True, only gold and silver coin are real money, but cash is the only way to go, even if it mans frns.

I guess I'm one of those 'deadbeats'...

...that pays off his balance at the end of each month.

They don't make a dime from me. They already get 3% from every transaction I make but that comes from the retailer, not me.

If they impose any sort of fee for the use of the card.... it gets cut up and sent back to them and I go back to a 'cash only' system. Remember to call and cancel the card, though!

I may not know the truth, but I know when I'm being lied to...

I may not know the truth, but I know when I'm being lied to...

You might want to rethink...

This statement - "They already get 3% from every transaction I make but that comes from the retailer, not me."

You don't think the retailer raised prices on everything to cover that 3%?

I pay cash - and ask for discounts for doing so...it usually works - if it doesn't I take my money elsewhere.

They already made their

They already made their money!! When you filled out the application, and were approved, they deposited that as cash, and lent more credit on your signature at a rate of 9 to 1...it's known as fractional reserve banking.

Your signature has a value. (thats what makes a check valuable) When you sign a loan agreement, credit card application, etc, you give the bank something of extreme value. You give them a "guarantee" that you will fund their organization for the term of the contract. Its like a pre-construction sale at a condominium, whereas your agreement to buy a condo funds the project that they could otherwise not afford.

Google fractional reserve banking!

Ask your credit card company

Ask your credit card company if they can legally lend credit!

They absolutely can not and will avoid the question...if they happen to say they can, ask for their employee number, then ask them again!!!

ALSO, ask them to send an "invoice" for the amount due instead of a "statement" they again will refuse, because an invoice is a legal demand for payment, since you legally dont owe them anything, they can NOT demand it, and instead simply send a statement, which is just that, a statement!!

I know most of you will not

I know most of you will not like to hear this, but since theses a@*les caused the problem, and are stealing our money anyway, I am planning on maxing out my 2 cc right before the SHTF and they can k*$$ my rear end. That's if I can time it right. It probably won't happen, but if I can pull it off, I will and I will not lose any sleep over it. They have already stolen Trillions from us. Don't get mad, get even!

I've been hearing that

from several people.....They're talking about maxing out their cards then just walking away. I mean, are the banks gonna come take these folks' food stockpiles and garden tools, and ammo? Not likely. That's the whole point of unsecured debt is that that there's nothing for them to come get.

I disagree (mine are paid off) but kinda see where a lot of folks really don't have anything left to lose so they'll just shaft the bank on their way down.

My 2 cards are mostly paid

My 2 cards are mostly paid off 10 months out of the year. I use them mostly for large purchases in case I get screwed, I have some recourse and can refuse to pay it if it is faulty merchandise and they try to screw me. Ocassionaly, I have a left over balance after Christmas for a month or two. I say screw em!

no ones getting shafted

no ones getting shafted though...the banks didnt lend any money, they simply entered an amount into a computer and created it. These banks put up ZERO consideration for these accounts.

Good video about banking!

I have one card with a small balance...

I pay it off every month. Recently I noticed that the company started putting holds on the funds when I pay it off (e.g. balance is zero, available credit is 1/2 the credit line). When I called them, they said it was because my bank can return the payment-BS. I'm the Branch Manager, and I know when the funds have been paid to them. I even offered to have the bank fax a copy of my statement-no dice. And no one has the authority to override the policy, even though my payments have never come back in the years that I have had the card. I'd get rid of it, but it's a great rate, and they don't make any money off of me. They are basically punishing me for paying them off. So now I pay them in two payments instead of one, just in case I need to use the credit and they still don't make a dime off of me. I hate credit cards, but things do come up sometimes, and I don't always have the money in my savings, because I have been buying roles of Silver Eagles with all extra funds.

What a racket

They charge a percentage of each purchase to the vendor so they make money there. Then they charge for each and every thing they can think of. Now they are going to charge me because I am responsible. I take advantage of charge cards for airline miles. BUT, if they change that, I am out of there. I will do debit all the way. I buy most of my stuff online so that's why it has been useful.

If your up to your eyeballs in credit card debt.

just go chpt. 7 and get it over with you still get to keep your car and house., like the chairman of enron did.the credit card companies should have never given the credit in the first place .lots of people go bankrupt I think Donald Trump has gone bankrupt 6 or 7 times.

NO DEBT...

I pay my credit card off 100% every month. If I can't pay cash for it. I can't afford it. Period.

I was taught..

"Teach a child the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.
The rich ruleth over the poor and the borrower is the servant of the lender."
Proverbs 22:6-7

Have had only one my entire life

Maxed it out at a grand and payed minimum payments for a year or two to build credit. That was the plan from the beginning and for once my plans worked out. Haven't gotten one since and I can honestly say, besides my car payment, I am debt free. I am 25 married with two children...I am a renter and catch criticism from family and friends on a daily basis for not buying. As crazy as it seems I think I will actually save some money before I buy ; )

You want to

save up some money and THEN buy a house.....That's so crazy it just might work. I have a feeling that housing could continue to get cheaper in some areas so there's probably still time to find a bargain when you've saved enough to consider purchasing.

Excellent job you're doing in staying out of debt....That's gotta be tough at your young age and with 2 children. Keep up the good work!

Carry only 2 or 3 cards max

Carry only 2 or 3 cards max and carry out cash-only transactions for the majority of your needs from week to week. It's worked well for me for years.

Don't want credit.

Have no credit card and when I make a purchase I negociate a discount with the owner or manager, and split the difference they would pay to the credit card company. No need for points.
grant

Another smart strategy.

Beautiful

Looks like their diggin their own grave. this is good news.

I don't have one and I

I don't have one and I consider them an Abomination. I have never had one and never will. The reason why is my old lady had some and rang up 60k in debt behind my back. So now the equity of my house is going to pay for a lot of stupid shit. I told her WTF 60k You could have bought a new car and the only thing I got out of the deal was a bunch of junk that is cluddering my house that the credit card companies wanted to steal with issuance of fake money.

Thats crazy....
