New House bill will federally mandate one week paid vacation for employees working for a company that has at least 100 workers
Rep. Alan Grayson was standing in the middle of Disney World when it hit him: What Americans really need is a week of paid vacation.
So on Thursday, the Florida Democrat will introduce the Paid Vacation Act — legislation that would be the first to make paid vacation time a requirement under federal law.
The bill would require companies with more than 100 employees to offer a week of paid vacation for both full-time and part-time employees after they’ve put in a year on the job. Three years after the effective date of the law, those same companies would be required to provide two weeks of paid vacation, and companies with 50 or more employees would have to provide one week.
The idea: More vacation will stimulate the economy through fewer sick days, better productivity and happier employees.
“There’s a reason why Disney World is the happiest place on Earth: The people who go there are on vacation,” said Grayson, a freshman who counts Orlando as part of his home district. “Honestly, as much as I appreciate this job and as much as I enjoy it, the best days of my life are and always have been the days I’m on vacation.”

I think that in Germany it's two or three weeks mandatory paid vacation.
And they have to have government permission to quit
I never worked for a company that didn't give at least 3 weeks anyway. One corporation I worked for gave mgmt 6 weeks paid and 2 weeks accrued. But then they'd fire you if you took more than 2.

First, Government has no place in making business decisions. Hmm sound familiar, ask GM and Chrysler.
OK, hypothetical, so I'm a small business owner, and I have 45 employees. My business can't afford to pay vacation, but I have 45 people who have jobs in today's economy and make a very decent wage, with medical benefits. I have a demand for, 10 part-time employees to fill the void of additional work so what to do...
Well now, I would just hire the 10 part time workers and everyone would be happy. I created more jobs and relieved the extra work load of my other 45.
However, with this bill, I don't hire and add extra stress to my already busy 45...
Now, assume I have 107 employees and this Bill passes. Guess what I am going to do as the CEO/Owner of the company. Most likely I'll be laying off at least 8 people and I will expect the remaining 99 to carry the extra work load. So, eight people out of work (7.5% unemployed) and now the work load of everyone increased accordingly, as well as stress to get the job finished.
I wont go on, but there are so many things wrong with this...

because anyone who goes to Disney will beg to get out of there! If these guys want a truly socialist nation why push for one short week of vacation a year, go all out, demand a full month or two. Then we'd have a little time to rest our selves from the raping we'd be getting the other months. We do not need our gov. to fight these fights for us, all we need our gov. to do is bow out in most cases and leave us to our own self governance. By the way, we paid this idiot to come up with this idea...
