Advice: Taking my kid to the dentist for the first time, fluoride?

Just tell the dentist no fluoride treatments period! Don't be weak you might get some rolling of eyes or even a semi snide comment. Just stick to your guns. If they give you a really hard time about it find another dentist.

My dentist used to give me that look when ever it came up now he asks for advice on gold silver and guns since all my predictions came true and he lost his ass in the stock market... ;-)

First of all, it needs to be stated that the 'substance' referred to as 'Fluoride' is a misnomer - there is no such substance listed in the periodic chart of the elements, nor in the prestigious CRC handbook, nor in the sacred 'bible' of the pharmaceutical industry - the illustrious 'Merck Index'.

Instead, we find a GAS called Fluorine - and from the use of this gas in various industries such as aluminum manufacturing and the nuclear industry -certain toxic byproducts are created which have 'captured' fluorine molecules. One such toxic, poisonous 'byproduct' is called sodium Fluoride - which according to the Merck Index is primarily used as rat and cockroach poison and is also the

active ingredient in most toothpastes and as an "additive to drinking water".

The fluoride my parents use now is a sticky substance that they paint onto your teeth. I think this is pretty standard. It creates a thin layer of protection over the teeth. But go ahead and ask your dentist. Dentist are not required to give fluoride to patients by law and only do so bc it is safe and effective. If the gov was trying to dumb down our population thru fluoride, don't you think it would be required?

Did you ever watch the "smoking tooth" video. Amalgams in teeth which were pulled over 10 years ago - when they rub the filling - you can see the poison released. I'll see if I can find it.

But you face a different problem if you say no...You face the fact that the dentist might call Child Protective Services on you...Im not kidding...was reading about a lady in OK or Tx..last month..she refused fluoride for her kids on a Tuesday...on Thursday CPS was banging at her door..on Friday they where back with cops..but no warrants..she still hadnt let them in...I havent heard anything else..so no idea how it turned out.

I had told the hygienist I had questions about the fluoride treatment and she said it would be best to speak with the doctor. The kicker is she put the application on my kids' teeth without asking or telling me after we had just a conversation about it a few minutes earlier. Ugh.

I tend to agree with the folks that say its not being ingested so it shouldn't be too harmful. They prescribed him fluoride drops a few years ago when he was born and we never used them. Everyone worries about protecting your kid from the weirdo in the park, but this is an even more dangerous threat. I'm trying to be an informed parent, but they don't make it easy. All fluoride is not the same. Toothpastes usually have sodium fluoride or calcium fluoride, which are naturally occurring chemicals that can strengthen tooth enamel. The fluoride they put in public drinking water is not one of the naturally occurring forms of fluoride, but rather hexafluorosilicic acid -- a byproduct of industrial fertilizer and aluminum production. This form of fluoride is highly toxic and is regulated by the EPA as an environmental toxin. Remember Sesame Street? One of these things is not like the other.

The dentist will want to do a fluoride treatment with the good type of fluoride. But when I was given these treatments as a child, they always made me incredibly nauseous. I think the dosage of these treatments is too high and I wouldn't give them to my children, although I would have them brush with a fluoride toothpaste.

I'm as skeptical as it comes to medical treatments, but the fluoride treatment applied directly to the teeth is not only beneficial, it's delicious! They make it in several flavors. Like you said, he won't be ingesting it, at least in any significant quantities.
