"California faces its day of fiscal reckoning"

0 votes

"The day of reckoning that California has been warned about for years has arrived. The longest recession in generations and the defeat this week of a package of budget-balancing ballot measures are expected to lead to state spending cuts so deep and so painful that they could rewrite the social contract between California and its citizens. They could also force a fundamental rethinking of the proper role of government in the Golden State..."

"The governor's cutbacks could include ending the state's main welfare program for the poor, eliminating health coverage for about 1.5 million poor children, halting cash grants for about 77,000 college students, shortening the school year by seven days, laying off thousands of state workers and teachers, slashing money for state parks and releasing thousands of prisoners before their sentences are finished..."

"Schwarzenegger and some Democratic lawmakers have asked the Obama administration for a federal loan guarantee — or what some are calling a bailout. The move would be virtually unprecedented and would require the approval of a reluctant Congress."

This is great news

I remember when they kept adding on days to the school year so they can further brainwash kids.

Why don't they cut off an entire month while they are at it?

They could probably cut an entire 4+ months from the school year and the kids would be just as educated scholarly.

This week's referendum on new taxes and borrowing for payment

of California's deficit spending was a 2-1 NO vote by the state's residents. So, now the idiots in charge are requesting that the feds step up with a resolution that, no matter how it's structured, would actually require the other states of the union to pay Calfornia's bills. What a hoot.

This is great news!

Not to worry!

California is going to fall into the ocean soon. Well, that's what they told us when we were kids....just like the coming ice age we all were told about.

Patience is a virtue...

and truth will follow it's own time, not yours. It is our lot in life to be patient and cognizant of the world around us; in other words to be "truth seekers". If we seek we might find, if we seek we may not find, but the means are always more important than the end. You will be judged on the means, you will answer for the means, and you will be remembered for the means. Your end is guaranteed, what really matters is how you play the game.
