My 2 Lessons from 2007 is this...
Submitted by Treg on Sat, 05/23/2009 - 16:04I do not know about you, but after all my freeway making signs, my Ron Paul Video Contests, all my Meet up meetings, I walked away with two lessons and two questions.
Yes, just 2 Lessons from all my RP activism & also 2 Questions...
LESSON #1) Only 3 states matter.
1st Iowa
2nd New Hampshire
3rd South Carolina
After the republicans from those 3 states choose a winner, the Republican SHEEPLE nationwide simply follow behind and vote "what the heck, I don't want to waist my vote" on Super Tuesday.
So the lesson that I learned was that ALL OUR TIME, MONEY AND ENERGY for 2011 needs to go into those 3 States. Win those states and your own state Republican Sheeple party will all fall in line.
That is the #1st lesson.
The 2nd Lesson is this, MONEY MATTERS
We all were shocked, (or was it just me?) at how fast the Media went from ignoring Ron Paul to suddenly paying close attention the very minute that he had $10 million in his campaign coffers. So, get the Big Money and you get Big Media to get Free MSM TV time. Next, Get lots of Free MSM TV time and you are suddenly a "legitimate candidate" and not a "wasted vote" in the eyes of the general voter. A deadly Catch 22 trap, yes, but as we saw with our own eyes, you can break this Catch 22 with a massive Money Bomb.
Our big Money bombs, to our surprise and Ron's, gave him sudden and amazing TV exposure. But it all came too late.
Campaigns MUST start out with Lots of Money.
Its like getting to run the 4 lap mile with getting a 1 lap head start! The media for 8 months had placed their bets on Rudy Giuliani, Romney and McCain. By the time of our 2 money bombs, it was lots of MSM TV time but TV time came to late to the avg New Hampshire & South Carolina Voter. Fox made sure Ron Paul was off their TV debate days before the New Hampshire vote.
So the lesson is, that the media makes a BIG GIGANTIC thing out of "Who has the most money going into the race?". They love that question. They can't stop themselves from asking that question a thousand ways. That question alone forces names to the top, video images to the top, and good or bad discussion. But for the avg voter, the name becomes a "house-hold name" and then becomes a "viable candidate".
So it would be WISE for us to start a money bomb now.
"Obama OUT Now!" money bomb".
Perhaps a contribution Plan for who ever we choose. A kiddy if you will, one that FORCES the likes of Peter Schiff, Jesse Ventura, John Stossel, Rand Paul, to say "Wow! That is a lot of money. That much money means Free TV exposure and a real shot at winning or at least changing the debate! Count me in!"
My 1st Question is this:
Who is our man or woman for 2012?
Peter Schiff?
Jesse Ventura?
John Stossel?
Rand Paul?
Ron Paul?
X_Other?
My 2nd Question is this:
How can we set up a secure donation site NOW that holds this money for 2012?
Further, can we make it so that who ever makes a $100 donation gets one vote? Should you donate more money it does not matter, just one vote is all you get. Then come January 2011 we have our vote and our money goes to backing that candidate.
HOW can we BUILD a Pile of Money NOW ????????
The GOP is gathering up its money, we must be gathering up ours for the Revolution to Continue to "Pack a Punch".
Please tell me how we can do that.

A safe way to set this up may be possible.
We could set up a myriad of controls.
We could would set it up so that money can only go into a specific account, no withdrawals until a certain date, say January 31st 2011.
First control is that the account could be monitored by everyone, totally open.
The account could have outside auditing.
The account could fall under control of an uninterested 3rd party such as a title company perhaps, whose direction comes straight from the document that we design ourselves.

Shouldn't we be having money bombs for Adam Kokesh, RJ Harris, and Rand Paul, and other yet to be announced 2010 candidates first?
Wouldn't a bunch of Liberty candidates getting elected in 2010 make a statement that a Liberty candidate is electable in 2012? Ron Paul or whoever it is wouldn't have to deal with the constant "are you electable" question on constant repeat, and the barely noticing public would not be negatively influenced by it....

#1 The 3-state Lesson (great point -- I thought this same thing Jan '08 - glad someone mentioned it). When people get pumped about RP again: Num1 he will come out the gates a lot faster than before -- Num2 we will prime the pump regarding the falling off of money bombs and support by late Dec early Jan.
#2 Money is important and I think rather than giving Paul a lot of money we need to have a lot of our own money. One of the complaints many of us had last time is the Paul team did not spend or plan out his marketing very wisely -- if the constant donation requests of C4L is an example of how things will go again I'm betting on dissappointment. Meaning to be part of the RP Nation is to be ahead of the Entrepreneurial curve -- We buy our own commercials (as a corporation called "Ron Paul Nation" -- our product is everything liberty) -- we need catchy national commercials (on all levels -- burping frogs, scary pop-out zombies, talking geckos, actors reading the Preamble, Aimee Allen -- whatever's catchy and memorable).

Hell, I remember having to go to the web to find what RP was getting in the 'first' three, because the tv news wasn't reporting his totals. It was like first, second, third, fifth, or as Supertramp says..." So logical. One, two, three, five!
The advocates of freedom always get shafted by corporate media. Remeber Waco?
Sure, money is the mother's milk of politics, but without the boots on the ground, the money winds up making some new PAC, or such. And the presidency really isn't a big deal, other than being fodder for corporate media.
This is just a rant mostly, and not intended to take any wind out of your sails. Its just that all politics are local. I am glad to hear that you are very involved with your local R party.
I fought against our local R party (in a overwhelmingly R state) when they tried to make a new sales tax (they lost, HARDCORE, with a paltry 19% for the tax). So call them what they are, and the GP just may surprise you with a HUGE victory.
There were so many people I talked to
who wouldn't say it outright, but the subtext of their argument was "but the TV said..."
McCain won precincts that didn't have precinct captains for him, but did have captains for Ron Paul. The boots were fruitless because the TV said McCain was the man.
If money is what it takes to get the TV to say something, then that's what we gotta' get.

Ron Paul 2012 funding site that is ran by grassroots supporters. C4L should have NO ACCESS to it. Then we start piling money into it now with money bomb dates ect until we can buy those 3 key states.
We need a wise,shrewd politically experienced crew producing/blasting commercials left and right at primary time and a press person that knows what's up getting Ron interviews, calling press conferences ect so everyone hears him.
We cannot afford to have the same people running Ron's campaign this time around, they will sabotage it again.

We need the crew, yeah
Whoa, did we need the crew back then. Ballot access efforts, precinct walking advice, not messing up interview schedules -- we really need people who can knock those things out of the park. Not just can, but will. There was some tomfoolery by people who were paid not to screw up last time and you have to wonder just how much of that was incompetence and what was on purpose.
Still, we need the pile of money to wave at the media. The money bomb hauls might have pushed the media coverage over the top if they had happened early enough. That was a turning point from being completely ignored to less ignored back then, but, by then, the media had already dubbed their boys.
Having the pile of cash needs to be an opening salvo the next time around. If it comes as a bomb, it also needs to be timed right because we were told in the summer of 2007 by the local news that they wouldn't touch on a campaign story that early. A good crew could help with timing it right.
Then again, some of the spontaneous grass roots efforts were pure genius born of frustration. I hope we can get the best of both worlds -- grassroots genius and experienced savvy.

tell you about Ron Paul himself? Ron is the head of C4L and yet you don't want to rely on C4L. Nor trust Ron to pick his campaign crew. What does this tell you? It tells me, Ron is not our man.
Ron is doing what he loves, and he LOVES spreading the ideas of Liberty. He is NOT interested in "being President". He has also said he is NOT seeking to run again.
So perhaps we can agree on this?
Ron is not our man for 2012.
The C4L is not the right vehicle to fund the R3VOLution.
We need a MONEY BOMB the R3VOLution campaign NOW.

We do it by
getting Rand Paul and the other liberty-minded candidates elected. We win. That's how we do it.
With that done, we time the presidential election money bomb just right - just before and during the straw polls so that the media can't say it's too early to cover it. We made a lot of noise at those straw polls last time, but the media ignored it because we didn't have the pile of money that we now know is the only thing that turns their heads.
We have other fights to concentrate on before the 2012 election and those fights are the key to getting in position for 2012.

Is a window of opportunity. Corrupt town councils love to have their elections the year after a presidential election because people are burnt out on politics by then. Go to your county board of elections and get a petition and get the signatures to get on the ballot.
Local politics are half about recouping funds from the state and the federal government, but at least you can vote "no" when your town gets offered those free surveillance cameras from federal funds.
2010 is the year to take the U.S. House and Senate.

2012 will be our window of opportunity, and here are my 2 cents. I think Jesse Ventura would be a good presidential candidate with Ron Paul as VP. Rand could be treasury secretary and Lew R. could be secretary of the anti-state. Wouldn't that rock? I think RP is the idea man, but Jesse has the rock-star like personality to convince your average Joe voter more easily. Jesse would also kick major butt in any debate. They also need to run third-party with a totally new party name - the "Freedom or Independent Party". Screw the republicans - we need to gain votes from both sides. Our advertising needs to be less nice and more in your face - think about 'The Crying Indian' or '1984 Apple Ad' - something along those lines. Money will help, but we need a movement that accepts all lovers of freedom and America. With this, nothing can stop us.
Regarding lesson #2, that's not exactly how I remember it.
I remember RP's $10 million getting him quick, brief mention....and then immediately back to nothing, or ridicule, like before.
When RP had raised more than the other republicans in that last quarter, the money was all of a sudden not such a factor to the media anymore.

Ron Paul's $10 million came AFTER Iowa. Had it happened before the 1st Presidential debate and well before Iowa, he would have been the talked about "Front Runner".
We can do that now.
We can send our money into the GOP, and then the GOP will back its choice.
Or we can send our Money into the R3VOLution, and then come 2011 we can back OUR CHOICE.

Also, I could not go along with a $100 donation requirement for people to have a say. There are plenty of people on this forum who are part of this revolution who may not be in a position to drop $100.
There are people here in foreclosure situations, losing their jobs, etc.

in shock that there was so much corruption and I had never seen it before, it was amazing. I have no idea what to do in fact I ponder if there might be a military take over by then.

Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina mean diddly squat and the amount of money raised means even less.
My evidence for this conclusion....McCain, nuff said.
"They" choose the candidate and the only way to change that is to watch this country crumble until the people rise up and say....I HAVE HAD ENOUGH OF THIS SHIT...until the Revolution reaches critical mass there will be no change.
So we march on. It does matter that we continue to support candidates and issues that we believe are imperative to the future of our country. But I've resigned to the fact that my main focus as a foot soldier in this struggle is to point out why people are experiencing the difficulties they are. There will be many more opportunities to explain as we slip into the future.

While the MSM was busy calling RP a kook everyday and quixotic on a rare good day and mostly not mentioning him at all ever (EVER) after Iowa. I know what I witnessed in the 07 primaries. It was disgraceful! Point after point in the debates and in the commentary Dr. Paul would make valid arguments for his positions and there was no debate. Not a single argument against anything he said. The Old Media branded him a fool and that was the end of it.
The Republican rank and file vote for who the media tells them to...they chose McCain. Once again I will speak my opinion: the only way this country will change direction is for people to experience enough pain to revolt.

Even if there were no such laws, my experience with people tells me that THAT would really piss them off. You would not want to be at the end of that hateful violent wrath. The public FEELS that is a "sneaky way to win".

Personally I would like to run against Harry Mitchell for Congress, or what the heck, John McCain for Senate.
But read what has been written on this thread about such a "Trojan Horse" strategy. The stats for it are not there. Also, its trickery.
A simple frontal assault with an early MONEY BOMB the REVOLUTION campaign will place us in the power seat to choose WHO we want. You know the GOP will choose their guy and give their funds...but our funds early on in the race could get us the TV time and Name recognition we need to really win and pull this off.

Thanks for responding, and it's great you are involved in the official GOP at the local level. We need to nurture our allies locally to ensure each of us get through the caucus process locally.
The top-down ideas are also important, though I'm convinced about the need for local grassroots where I live and in the early states.
Other than pushing on the MSM, what ideas do you have to nurture the grassroots in the early states? Sometimes the more effective ideas are cheap but require advance planning. What needs to be done now in the early states to get the vote out?

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, the party leaders can make or change rules at a whim to prevent things like just the scenario being described, can't they? Didn't we see incidents in Nevada, for example, where Ron Paul delegates attempted a takeover and were thwarted? Who says that can't be done at floor of the National Convention?
We need to stop promoting Trojan horse fantasies and get real. Money is all-important and how it is spent is critical. Early primaries are also of tremendous importance. You can't win without the votes, and the momentum is established by New Hampshire.
