Ron Paul 1976 prediction fulfilled

I am currently reading Brian Doherty's new book "Gun Control on Trial" about the 2008 Supreme Court case DC v. Heller which overturned Washington DC's gun ban and (re)established the Supreme's view of the Second Amendment as a guarantee of an individual, rather than a collective, right.

On page 45, Doherty notes that Rep. Congressman Ron Paul called the DC gun ban "flat out illegal" and that "this law is going to challenged and it is going to be thown out."

It took over 30 years, but the freshman Texas congressman was 100% correct.

Ron Paul voted against DC ban in 2004

In 2004, Paul voted to repeal the District of Columbia gun ban. The legislation passed the House but was not taken up in the Senate. Then in 2005, he voted to prevent D.C. from spending money to enforce one of its provisions.

"In 1976, I spoke on the floor of House against the adoption of restrictions on the right to bear arms in Washington, D.C. that HR 3193 seeks to repeal. Unfortunately, my argument then was ruled out of order, and the restrictions went into effect." -- Ron Paul
