The Washington Post
THERE ARE at least two reasons to watch "Hearts and Minds," a 1974 documentary about Vietnam. How about this for starters? It's one of the best documentaries ever made, a superb film about the thoughts and feelings of the era, the whole festering, spirited animus of it.
"Hearts and Minds" is also the movie that enshrined the now-household images of the naked Vietnamese girl, also made famous by Nick Ut's Pulitzer Prize-winning photographs, running from a napalm attack, her body a patchwork of burns, and the infant in a woman's arms, suffering from the same injuries, skin hanging off its body. It's also the film (and a famous photograph by Eddie Adams) that shows the point-blank execution of a Viet Cong captive by a South Vietnamese police officer, followed by the horrifying spouting of blood from the dying man's head as he dies on the road. http://www.rialtopictures.com/grisbi_xtras/hearts_wash.html

I went to the same school as General Butler
I went to Friends School in West Chester, PA where General Butler attended many years, of course, before me. Butler was a Quaker, oddly enough and his picture hung on the wall in our class room in 6th grade. Either General Butler or one of his relatives owned a house I later bought in West Chester.
If you get a chance read "War is a Racket" by Butler. He doesn't waste time in getting to the point and explaining why war is bad.
Please read...

Great video, thank you.
Smedley Butler and my husband went to the same grade school. I just looked him up on wikipedia and realized he is buried in my town. I'm thinking of taking my children to see his grave today.
What are the chances
We would love to hear what the locals have to say about Butler!
Not much.
I never heard anything about him outside of my school. You should contact Chester County Historical Society in West Chester. They most certainly will have a lot of information about him.
I'll try and find out for you!
Maybe the local history museum has some stuff of his; it will be interesting to research this and report back.
that is awesome, ingrid, i mean, six
:-)
Makia, you might be close by, too.
I saw you mentioned being near Philly yesterday (?) He's buried in West Chester.
Ever see the TV show "The Prisoner"? I chose this name after Patrick McGoohan's character. It was a great show.

Heard of it, never seen it.
I'm in Broomall. Small world. . . real small, huh? Well, I've got no excuse to not ask you out to a dinner sometime. Or coffee, whatever. Just remember that I'm married, and if your husband went to school with Gen. Butler then you are probably not quite in my "age range," so don't get any ideas.
:-)
Thanks for your time today, Richard.
You'll have to ask me first....
...I'm her husband.
RS, I am happily married,
at least that's what I tell my wife.

If you are then you have no business....
.....saying to my wife, "Well, I've got no excuse to not ask you out to a dinner sometime. Or coffee, whatever."
Does your wife believe you?

i'll take it you are being serious here, and if that is the case, then richard's stories below deserve the more serious tone.

.
"Not that sorry"....so you say?
"Not a jealous person" so you say about yourself?
What has that to do with you asking my wife out on a date?
My wife and I were disgusted with you and your comments.
You've got to be quicker in deleting your comments.
this is what i was trying to post:
