Can we free Sam Dodson before a judge has him committed?
From DPer jimbo46:
"Almost six weeks ago in Keene, New Hampshire, Videographer Sam Dodson was filming in the district court lobby. He was arrested and went limp (in the classic "I will not assist you" mode). He did not provide his name asserting his (supposed) right to remain silent. He has been denied due process and has not been able to go before the court.
Many writs of habeas corpus have been filed up to the New Hampshire supreme court, all to no avail. Wiki defines it as "You (shall) have the body[1]) is a legal action, or writ, through which a person can seek relief from the unlawful detention of him or herself, or of another person. It protects the individual from harming him or herself, or from being harmed by the judicial system. The writ of habeas corpus has historically been an important instrument for the safeguarding of individual freedom against arbitrary state action.
Sam is in limbo, in fact the judge is hinting around about his "competency" to stand trail. So, in a classic tyrannical move, they may cover themselves by finding a quack to deem him incompetent and lock him away in a hospital for God knows how long. Sam is an activist with the Free State Project, not a dangerous criminal."

i found them to be pretty interesting.
Wilber recounted his second day on the job at 2:30 a.m. His pants, issued by the jail, were falling down because they fit poorly and didn’t have additional button holes cut to tighten them up. Given that the only notice given to the prisoners is a call over the loudspeaker 30 minutes before starting a new work schedule, Wilber was dragging a bit adjusting to the night shift. Potnam saw this and called Wilber a “wannabe ghetto ass motherfucker that’s never gonna get a real job.”

"Each of us must choose which course of action we should take: education, conventional political action, or even peaceful civil disobedience to bring about necessary changes. But let it not be said that we did nothing. Let not those who love the power of the welfare/warfare state label the dissenters of authoritarianism as unpatriotic or uncaring. Patriotism is more closely linked to dissent than it is to conformity and a blind desire for safety and security." Congressman Ron Paul

I heard he can just get out if he gives them his name...
Is that correct? Can anyone confirm. If that's true, that's why I would do if I was in his shoes.
Sam seems to think that the agents of the State are reasonable people and will see this situation from his vantage point. They most likely will not. As George Washington said (in his possibly most libertarian statement):
OK.
I haven't seen that movie yet...but I think he's crazy.
I don't think I can see anything good coming out of this (or something good enough to have made it worthwhile). If I did think something worthwhile + good would come out of it ...then I would be more supportive.
Well, it was pretty obvious that nothing good would come...
out of the Boston Tea party, but that didn't stop anyone from strapping on their Indian costumes and partying like it was 1773. :D
From the perspective of the guy whose purposefully pissing off the authorities no foreseeable good can ever come from his action; in almost every conceivable scenario he's just going to get abused, but every now and again, some annoying little bastard manages to really strike a chord and raise hell. That's what makes it worth while.
There are two sorts of people in the world, those that do the smart thing, and those who are vindictive and crazy enough to push back against seemingly insurmountable odds.
If he want's to piss in Uncle Sam's coffee over the issue of not having to tell them his name when they arrest him-- that's his business and I wish him luck in his fight.
You don't get it.

great so now they are
going to put him in a looney ward, fill him to the gills with drugs, when he is nice and addicted they will let him out, and the next time a freedom canidte comes up they will intervue him and ask why a looney bin person supports him. They always think about five steps ahead of us. Aaaaaarrrrrrgggggggg
"when he is nice and addicted they will let him out"
Will they?
He might "commit suicide" while in the mental facility. That would be very convenient for the government of Keene.
Will be interesting to see how it unfolds. Doesn't look like this thread is of much interest (seatbelt tickets in SC seem to be the hot topic at the moment), so good luck to Sam.
