Anyone thinking of moving to NH if things get really bad?
Submitted by atrickpay on Tue, 05/26/2009 - 15:55
I am. I think NH might be looking pretty attractive in a few years if enough pro-liberty people get over there. I think is has the potential to be a bulwark against the State.
Also, did you know that NH is already the most free state? It was # 1 in the Freedom in the 50 states: An index of personal and economic freedom report put out in Feb 2009 by the Mercatus Center @ GMU.

Anyone thinking the same? ;)

with storable food, tons of firewood, a couple rifles and a creek nearby. Charge your CC to the max to get your supplies, cut it up, and work enough to pay your local bills. If you have a mortgage then stop paying it the minute the SHTF like if there is martial law or a declared dictatorship. The law would rather protect their own family than come after you for not paying your mortgage. Or just go hang out in some trendy cafe somewhere sipping a latte and be completely unprepared because the govt. will take care of you in a fema camp.

I grew up in MA but my neighbor had an old family farm in NH (the house was built in 1790 kind of old) with all the antique tools etc still there. Even with all that it would be a rough life up there. Short growing season. ROCKY soil (You know the New England stone walls? Those were stones removed from fields. They rise through the dirt so fields need to be cleared every 10-15 years). Constantly cutting firewood. Rough all around, even with 40 acres.
NH is better than MA, CT or RI so if you are in New England it makes sense (though I'd prefer Vermont) but if you are going to move there from some other part of the country you have better options. "Live free or die" is just a slogan now.

My son moved there, he
was disappointed because there were so many Liberals from Taxachusetts that move to NH and then want to raise taxes. LOL I think it will take more than 20,000 Liberty lovers to turn that around. I think the bottom line is live where you want to be when you die. If you move somewhere you are miserable, it won't work no matter what you do. Grow where you are planted, and try to find joy in what you are doing. Good luck.
Prepare & Share the Message of Freedom through Positive-Peaceful-Activism.
20k not enough??
that would be akin to 130,000 liberty minded individuals moving to San Diego.
Mind you, that wouldn't just be 130,000 people. That would be 130,000 activists -- which (by my math) is akin to 2.6 million sheep.
The liberal statists wouldn't have a chance.
LOL He must be living in
LOL He must be living in the Nashua/Manchester/Salem area. In reality, that is part of the Boston Metropolitan area now. I grew up there and as much as I love NH, I wouldn't live anywhere near the southern part of the state. It has been overrun with liberals from MA. He's right. But, upstate NH, and western NH, is gorgeous and just as free as it ever was.

Most States Suck...Colorado
just happens to be the state I live in right now. This is a state of extremes. Mountains and prairie. Denver and the surrounding area basically own all of Colorado. First bad aspect...water. No one really owns their water in Colorado. You have to buy shares. There is even a law which states it to be unlawful to catch rainwater off your roof! Check it out! The Colorado legislature has allowed the prairie areas of Colorado to sell their water rights to the cities and out of state, thus drying up what was at one time, rich fertile soil. Just look at Crowley County, sh$thole central of Colorado. Latest gripe...Gov. Ritter signs a bill to increase vehicle licensing statewide so the roads in the Denver area can be upgraded. Not a dime spent on the dirt roads where I and many other Coloradoans live far out of Denver. People...well, people are people wherever you go but there is deifinitely a pervasive attitude amongst them here. It's not a help your neighbor through tough times feeling. It's the auction block feeling. When your neighbor is going under financially, people trample the property in hopes of finding a good auction deal. Tragic. Personally I think many Colorado financial failures are planned. 850 KOA would have you believe they are "the" voice of Colorado. Their signal is so distorted "in state" no wonder they boast they broadcast to 38 states and Canada. It would seem to me that Colorado should carefully scrutinize their actions because I think that with the way America is shaping up, many jobs and opportunities (agriculture) that could have been an integral part of Colorado and helped them be more self sufficient, are going to other countries instead. Instead, they will have some comittee do an impact study, open "another" rural Wal-Mart, and let the career politicians in Colorado continue to look out for their crown jewel - Denver and the surrounding area. A footnote, I've heard that Denver is the next Washington DC and if anything happens to DC (God forbid), that's where the next whitehouse will be. From the looks of things, that is genuinely how Colorado is treating Colorado. Canada, CA, NH, AK...anywhere but Colorado believe me. It Sucks!!!! And believe me, I've only touched the surface of what I feel to be legitimate complaints. Governor Ritter welcomes you to Taxorado
Moststatessuck- The new law
Moststatessuck- The new law that was passed this year took the Taxorado rainwater law and made it nationwide. The Food Health and Safety Act makes it Illegal to catch rainwater from your down spouts, drainage water in your culvert or any sitting water belongs to the state. So we are all in the same sinking ship. The best part of that bill is to legally grow a garden or farm, you have to buy a $500 liscense from Uncle Sam to grow food.
The only liscence (certificate) anybody is going to need around my house is a death certificate... LOL

We've thought about it long and hard
NH was our original plan. Now we think it's not quite free enough or far enough. In the short term, if SHTF quickly, we'll head for the hills, deep in the Adirondacks. Friends have a camp there..........Long term, we'd rather leave the country, another friend is building in Peru by the beach. That's an option for us.
Colchester, New London County, Connecticut
Thought about it
but there are a snags that stop me
1)Im to broke...we live paycheck to paycheck and are always behind trying to play catch up on bills
2)Our car would never make it...its held together now with dirt and a prayer
3)It gets to damn cold up there for me...This southerner doesnt do cold very well....we rarely get snow here and thats just fine with me.
4)Dont think they have..or serve..good grits up there..Cant live where I cant get good grits
5)Im praying people will start here, what was started there in NH..we have a lot of lakes..farm land..mountains..waterfalls..caves if needed...and more days with warm weather..housing buying or renting..is cheaper here...There are a lot of people moving to this area..people who are looking for a slower pace..who maybe watched to much tv..or read to many books about southern living and their coming here looking for the values of God,country, family, neighbors and community. And there are those, like myself, who miss the values life use to hold here.
There are others here who just dont care anymore and find it all hopeless..and those people are everywhere.

On the other hand, stuff is hard to come by where I live in the Great Lakes region. Good luck and hoopy "doobying"!

When are all eggs in 1 basket good?
Hello everyone,
With ALL due respect to atrick and other like-thinkers, and I do mean this with the best of intentions, but before anyone moves anywhere, I ask that you stop and ponder over the effects of not only leaving a "weaker" state behind, but consolidating freedom lovers in one. I mean if one can subscribe to even the most remote possibility that those pulling the strings in our government will stop at nothing to cease absolute control, and by absolute I mean end of Supreme Law as we know it, which would include but not be limited to eliminating all who oppose it [and by eliminating I don't mean imprison]. Now, while on that horrific train of thought you're in, think of how it really wouldn't be a far stretch to conceive that they will have no quams in leveling a US city, state, or even an entire region, should it be considered a land of resistance or insurrection. What's my point?
If we single ourselves out, we will be easier to control, easier to defeat or threaten. I'm sure NH is a wonderful place to live, I for one am tempted to experience this "free-er" place and wish nothing but good things for it, but moving to NH or any other "freedom" state as you put it, will not only work for the oppressors in that you would be "rouding up" all "oppossition" in ONE place, [like ants attracted to aspartame, yes Nutra Sweet] but you would be abandoning your brothers and sisters in that "less-free" state you're in. All this does is confine you into yet a smaller world, all the whilst forfeiting more land to the oppressor. This isn't just an act of cowardice, but un-American and anti-Christian, which this nation is built upon, and destructively separatist in nature. Separate is the opposite of TOGETHER, something without which we plain and simply WILL NOT succeed.
We won't get through this by segregation, people. If we're to win our country back, the only way to achieve it is UNITED as one big entity. Because the totalitarians cannot oppress us if it is ALL OF US. Our strength will only make a difference if we act as one massive unstoppable force; UNITED as in the united states of America. You wanna think big?
We should come at them from all corners of the earth; for the seeds of destruction were not bred here alone, history itself has taught us this.
Something to think about.
Now let's get this country back, wherever you are.
God Bless us all.

The goal is 20,000 liberty lovers
20,000 is nowhere near all of our eggs. Ron Paul had 1.2 million votes alone in the primaries. That's not mentioning Libertarians and Anarchists who refused to register as Republican to vote for him.
But the nice thing about concentrating more hardcore liberty lovers together is that we can do things we couldn't do so far apart.
For example, every city probably has at least a couple hundred Paulites in it, but is that enough to establish a private police force, or court system? How about a private insurance plan? Or how about civil disobedience? 300 people in a big city is negligible. 20,000 in a small state can really change things.

NO,NO,Hell no. Its a socialist state and right in the heart of the "Socialist" triangle. They picked the wrong state to try this project.

Idaho, Montana, or Wyoming.
Idaho, Montana, or Wyoming. Idaho has the best climate and the strongest freedom movement. Those 3 started thier own movement. NH was a sham fixed vote with the FSP. And a stupid decision to boot. Yeah pick a state in the heart of socialist land next door to Massivestupidness for the FSP Not very bright.
Still the three western have thier problems. I have tried to get people together to buy some land but lots of folks talk and few act. Whatever you do I would do it now as there may not be a lot of time left.
