US Soldier: ‘There’s No Way I’m Going to Deploy to Afghanistan’
(excerpts)
"It’s a matter of what I’m willing to live with," Specialist Victor Agosto of the U.S. Army, who is refusing orders to deploy to Afghanistan, explained to IPS. "I’m not willing to participate in this occupation, knowing it is completely wrong."
"What I did there, I know I contributed to death and human suffering. It’s hard to quantify how much I caused, but I know I contributed to it."
May 1, Agosto’s written statement appears: "There is no way I will deploy to Afghanistan. The occupation is immoral and unjust. It does not make the American people any safer. It has the opposite effect."
In another, dated May 18, he wrote: "I will not obey any orders I deem to be immoral or illegal."

SGT AGOSTO
You should have never joined the military in the first place. You wasted a lot of taxpayer money with this stunt. I am all for free speech etc but the time to do it is before you join ----------------- not because you do not want to go back. You were not forced to join ---------------- you volunteered. I am all for letting you out of the military if you reimburse the government for all the money they have invested in you. And no I am not a troll, I was one of the first 5 vets to sign Ron Pauls veteran list during his presidential campaign.
He can keep my share.
Since the government doesn't have anything unless it takes it from us first, the money spent on this soldier's epiphany came from you and me. Personally, I consider the money I invested in this soldier's "education" better spent than on the one's who feel so rotten and horrid about what they've seen and done that they commit the ultimate AWOL of killing themselves.
Sgt. Agosto, you can keep my share. And good luck to you.
And I don't think you a troll, YOWD5, but I do think your anger is severely misplaced. Given the way the military is exalted in this country no matter what they do, I'm sure Sgt. Agosto had no idea what he was really getting himself into. I sure as hell didn't when I joined the National Guard at the ripe old age of 17 as a junior in high school (more than half my lifetime ago now). Please consider that "full disclosure" is hardly part of the recruiting process.

Stop the NWO....It's just illumi..Naughty !
Young males are easily manipulated
during the period of their lives when they exist outside the female domain, after the mother and before the wife. They are above all eager to demonstrate masculinity. With its promises of order, fraternity, and cohesion, the military taps into this angst.
A real tragedy occurs when a young man, susceptible to the military's appeal and nonetheless intelligent and creative, signs up to become cannon fodder. He will probably leave the military alive, but he will have been irreversibly molded, less inclined to dissent. Less intelligent people are better equipped for most military positions, and have far less to lose.
Glad someone has the guts...
...to just say "no".

It so easy to get out of the military
Getting high - stoned out of your mind is better than Leavenworth or Portsmouth Naval Brig (Marine Jailers).
My brother, a ordained Jehovah's Witness minister and conscientious objector (Korean War) spent two years in Ashland, Kentucky Federal Penitentiary. From what he has told me Federal lock-up compared to my Marine Corps experience was tip-toeing though the tulips. One of my brothers turn-keys was a former Marine Captain that took a special delight in making my brothers stay pleasant as possible [sic].
My deceased ex brother-in-law was sentenced by the army to one year in Leavenworth for being a smart-ass - FU kind of guy. They liked him so much at Leavenworth they kept him an extra year (2).
All you have to do now to get out of the military is do drugs. The Marines don't like thieves. As a detailed chaser, I marched quite a few dishonorably discharged Marines out the rear gate of Pendleton with Undesirable, and Bad Conduct Discharges. One was for stealing from other Marines, the rest were mostly chronically AWOL. No dopers in the early '60's.
One of my fellow Radio Operators because we carried .45 Colt side-arms was detailed to chase two Marines from our outfit to their court martial for disobeying lawful NCO orders and AWOL. When he took them to evening chow before taking them to the brig another Marine from our outfit (their buddy) knocked the brig chaser unconscious at the mess hall and took his .45. They tried to stop them at the rear gate of Pendleton but they already sped though the gate at high speed. They are probably still in jail someplace or probably dead now. Marines are definitely a wild bunch, not boy scouts. One stole a full rifle rack full of rifles and they still don't know who broke into our Battery Armory and stole .30 Caliber machine guns. My army brother-in-law above stole a M-1 Garand and a car and went AWOL.
Later the Radio Operator above when qualifying with his .45 pistol at the range filed down his sear on his pistol (hair trigger) and it went full automatic damn near shooting the Battalion Commander [Major] next to him (lol). They transferred him to Guam. (true)
I wish him
the best of luck with that.
Bump.

Outstanding!
I think, ultimately, this is the only thing that's going to make it stop. The trigger-pullers are the ones who have to say, "No, I will not do your dirty work for you." A "leader" can order and cajole all he/she wants, but if the everyday men and women who actually do the job will start standing up for what is right, then the unjust wars will end.

I can't imagine....
why any young man would go into the military at this time....The deck is stacked against them right from the start. When I was a Marine we thought that we were doing the right thing only to find out (later) we weren't. In those days (late sixties/early seventies), it was common place for young men to marry their sweethearts and hope to return to a loving family. For the most part it worked out. Today young men marry women they think love them only to find out that they got duped by a gold digger and backed up by force of government...let me explain....My nephew marries a girl (a couple years older than he). He goes off to Iraq. The girl a month or two later sends him papers from a lawyer to divorce. He isn't allowed to go back to the states to fight his case. So the girl wins (as usual), gets most of his (small) paycheck, and half of his retirement pay if he stays in. These unfair laws are killing the military as the men's pay is garnished and they can barely pay for a soda. No wonder they don't stay in. It isn't only moral it is also "economic reasons" that men are refusing duty hoping they will get thrown out because they can't go year after year with no pay. The laws have to be fair to all and they most certainly are not now and it is killing the country morally and causing blow back in traditional marriage.
