MANSFIELD (CBS 11 News) ―
Is it okay to show your patriotism at the office?
For one Arlington woman, the answer was "no" after she hung an American flag in her office just before the Memorial Day weekend.
Debbie McLucas is one of four hospital supervisors at Kindred Hospital in Mansfield. Last week, she hung a three-by-five foot American flag in the office she shares with the other supervisors.
When McLucas came to work Friday, her boss told her another supervisor had found her flag offensive. "I was just totally speechless. I was like, 'You're kidding me,'" McLucas said.
McLucas' husband and sons are former military men. Her daughter is currently serving in Iraq as a combat medic.
Stifling a cry, McLucas said, "I just wonder if all those young men and women over there are really doing this for nothing."
McLucas said the supervisor who complained has been in the United States for 14 years and is formerly from Africa. McLucas said the supervisor took down Debbie's flag herself

In WWII she would have had a BIG GOLD STAR her peers would have been PROUD to see hanging IN THE OFFICE because it made them feel good to feel they were part of a great nation doing great things.

Mindless in thinking that her sons are fighting for this country or freedom or anything else good, yes. Mindless in rallying around a symbol that is used to manipulate people into surrendering their lives and fortunes to benefit a power elite, yes. Mindless in thinking that her personal display of blind loyalty to forces of evil trumps private property rights, yes.
If she wants to work in a place where she can engage in her sham patriotism without question, she can quit and go find that job.

They aren't there to make sure you can hang a 3' x 5' flag on your wall at work, that is for sure. Do any of these people even know WHY their family members and friends are being forced to fight the "brown people" over there so that we don't have to fight them here?..nonsense.

It makes me want to vomit every time I see all this "flag waving - Support Our Troops crap." I do not support, nor do I condone any killing done in my name. I am very sorry that many young men and women were lied to and deceived into committing murder for the banks and corporations. If I were her supervisor, I probably would have given her a pink skip. BTW, I am a former Viet-Nam era U.S. Marine.
Several years back (after 9-11) many people in our homeowners association (HOA) started erecting flag poles and hoisting the U.S. Battle Flag (totally against the HOA CC&R's). Our neighborhood looked like a military installation… Simply awful. I retained a lawyer and forced the removal of all flag poles (and forced the HOA to pay for the lawyer as well.) Needless to say, this did not make me very popular. Note: The CC&R's do permit displaying a flag "if attached to the house".

A Homeowners Association protects the neighborhood and maintains a standard of excellence. People who purchase homes in these neighborhoods "agreed" to be bound by the CC&R's. The people who erected permanent flag poles (some of which were 8-10 feet higher than their house did so in direct violation of the CC&R's. They made no attempt at changing the CC&R's prior to construction. The flags flapped and popped all night long keeping everyone awake. They would not even take the flags down at night. I did NOT violate anyone's rights. Lest you forget… I OWN A FRICK'IN HOME HERE AS WELL and I also have rights too. And when the association board becomes terrified of being labeled as being "unpatriotic" and refused to enforce the CC&R's, someone with balls needed to do something. That someone was ME!
For the same reasons the CC&R's do not allow a homeowner to paint their house Shocking Pink, The same rules clearly prohibits 50 ft flag poles with 25 ft. flags. So take a flying leap at a rolling donut!
Be glad I didn't try that crap with you? Yeah, me & and anyone else would be standing nose to nose and toe to toe over this one, and unless you changed the CC&R's YOU WOULD ALL LOSE! You can express you rights all you want… AS LONG AS IT DOESN'T VIOLATE MY RIGHTS!

You can't just go into "another man's" business....
and do as you wish. If he doesn't want flags hanging in the office, sorry to say but that is his call. Where might it end? The next flag might be the confederate battle flag, or rastafarian, or whatever. You don't have to wear patriotism on your sleeve no more than religion. It will bring unhealthy competition in the office. I say this as a small business owner myself who has seen it first hand.

You are correct 100%. Some may think it is unpatriotic which personally I think it is; however, private property rights need to be respected. Our constitution is clear on this folks. We also under the private sector and the constitution do not have the right to never be offended. You can disagree but the business owner of the private property has the final say here.
