the school and teacher demanded he be tested for ADHD and he was just beginning 1st grade! I grew up in a family with 3 brothers and I had one son already; I always assumed my youngest son, Andrew was just a healthy, rambunctious, curious, very smart little boy and his pediatrician in CT didn't see any need for him to be on meds in Kindergarten, despite the teachers' wishes. This is where the problems begin, with the teachers who want all the young children to be quietly controlled, so they dilligently label them as hyperactive. We all know how kids behave when they've consumed sugar in their diets, they get all excited of course!
Anyway, I was a single parent at the time I moved to FL, my boys were 14, just entering 9th grade and 5 1/2 starting 1st grade. When my youngest, Andrew started 1st grade here in FL, the teacher insisted I take him to be tested or he couldn't attend school because of his "behavioral problems" and thus began our odyssey with prescription drugs, beginning with Ritalin even though I objected strongly! He just wasn't the same kid anymore.
Every summer we took him off the drugs to give his body a "drug holiday" and he was fine, his appetite returned, he grew like a weed, slept normally and he was a happy little man. Because he was growing, the doctor increased the dosage to keep up with his growth, but that caused Andrew to be unable to sleep at night, so let's add another drug to help him relax and go to sleep. By the time he reached Middle School, he was now labeled with "ADHD, Bi-Polar and Oppositional Defiance Disorder" which of course required yet more drugs and mandatory liver screenings every 3 months.
By the time he was in high school, he asked me if he could try school without taking any drugs, as he had just started 9th grade and felt he could concentrate enough on his school work without the medications and they made him feel "weird and disconnected" is how he described it. I was 100% supportive because I was never really convinced he needed any of that crap but I was continually told by the schools he needed to take it in order to attend school, what CRAP! As far as I know to this day, the school never knew he had stopped taking the medications. They even offered to give him a "Special Diploma" that would have severely limited his choices after graduation and I told them NO WAY! This kid has in IQ over 150 in the 9th grade and he successfully completely high school and received a Regular Diploma just like everyone else! He wasn't the best student as he learned early on how to get away with the least amount of effort, but he maintained a B average.
He was able to teach himself some self-control skills and he hasn't taken any of that crap since the end of his 8th grade, but now I wonder if those drugs have had a negative lasting impact on his personality.He is not the son I brought up, he's quick to anger and escalates quickly. He is very manipulative and doesn't seem to care anything about anyone close to him; he's emotionally detached from his brother and I and he acts so indignant if he's challenged. He is now 23 and refuses to accept responsibility for his actions. I don't know whether it was bad parenting or if it was anything I did or didn't do, but my other 2 children aren't like that at all and they can't understand his behavior and neither can I, he often acts like he hates us all.

I have never taken any pill as such. Never. Yet what I have observed throughout my travels is that the more screwed up you are the more socially acceptable you are.

That is. In order to function in this messed up society one has to be messed up. Logic and reason are frowned upon. The illogical and mentally unstable are upheld as something to strive for. Thus Obamambots vs Ron Paul's. Illogical vs the logical. Emotions vs Critical thought.

Stay away from pills. They will turn you. They will change you. You will lose all thought and become a emotionally driven zombie.

I can count more ppl than I got fingers and toes that are bipolar or taking some sort of medicine to manage some sort of illness. Its a shame. I also know many others that are just so fucking lazy that they'd rather be considered "disable" and recieve a free check than actually work and deal with real problems. Personally, I think its because people enjoy being controlled, told what to do and how.

But I have a sister who is. She thinks she needs it. She's very into the fact that she has problems. She uses it as a crutch. Always says she can't do anything it's her excuse for everything. She's on disability so to admit she is normal would make her have to get a job and act like an adult. She would rather play the role. I think she is fine.

while the pharm industry certinly is shady and many drugs are not as effective as they claim to be, AND mental illness is way over-diagnosed, it is not all an invention of the industry. There are in fact people who suffer from real mental illness who are helped by medication and don't have alot of great options.
