advisors to Rand Paul

A good idea, if these advisors are sound Misesians, who will support efforts on his part to spread the word on the importance of sound money, balanced budgets, and private property. Far too many academicians, however, are prone to compromise and sellout (see Reason magazine, the National Libertarian Party, and the CATO institute) for examples.

If his choices are as good as e.g. Thomas Woods, Tom DiLorenzo, Robert Higgs, Richard Ebeling, Lew Rockwell, or Hans Hermann-Hoppe et al., such advisors can only do a great deal of good to his campaign, and to his Senate office, should he win!

PEACE AND FREEDOM!!
David K.Meller

This is a good sign that he's thinking ahead

I often thought that if Ron Paul would have named some real teamates during his primary run, it might have given his campaign some lift. As it was, only Ron Paul was out there officially stumping for Ron Paul.

The campaign

did announce economic and foreign policy advisers and there were a whole list of academics endorsing him. Of the congressman, I think only Walter Jones endorsed him, Jimmy Duncan would have endorsed him, but he opted for his old senator in TN, whom he knows longer and an ex governor also endorsed him.
Did you miss all this???
I only think the Paul campaign should have announced this team much sooner, but they do have a basis now for 2012. They needs more economists, basically it was Peter Schiff only, and for a few days Don Luskin, but Dr. Paul does not need economic advisers actually for monetary policy. To provide "legitimacy", he does need a few though. He would need some military security adviser team as well additionally. I think this will also help in getting more traction within the GOP. Bruce Fein was on his legal defense team.

As for a senate race, Rand probably only need for the most hot button issue, the economy. A senate race does not involve so much foreign policy issues as a presidential race, but if he wants to, there are a few, like Doug Bandow that this father also had.

Lot of "Wikis"

I almost went to Western Kentucky, which outsiders call "wiki" ("WKY"). Interesting. I guess that's because Rand lives in/near Bowling Green and has developed good relationships with these folks.

Very interesting, creative strategy;

I'd expect they've been vetted for competence and intellectual honesty. My only worry would be this smart move might be copied (far less rigorously academically) by his opposition.

It is a smart move

not an original move, that can be copied. In any case, Rand Paul has already taken the initiative and set a standard. He himself can articulate marco economy in broad terms and would be Grayson's superior in economics and taxes in any case. Now he ensures that he is also in front of Dave Williams and one or two women who may join the race later.

I think the question is....

Are ANY of them Austrians?! A quick glance at some of these professors' course work leaves much to be desired.

rand is one of my FB friends.

i asked him that question - are they austrians? - i did not get a reply.
i think it's important to know where they stand.
and i think that rand would not make stupid appointments.
he knows what's going on.

they look to be local so he must know them all personally.

maybe some or all of them are micro economists, not macro economists, thus relatively irrelevant whether they are Keynesians, monetarists or Austrians. Note that Milton Friedman (monetarists) in macro-economy was also for the abolishment of the Fed, difference is with the gold standard. Rand Paul probably know some of them with his being chairman of the Kentucky Taxpayers United. Their advice on tax and budget matters and proposals will be very helpful and also provide him with a lot of "legitimacy" and show he is really professional. Trey Grayson has announced a funding team, e.g. special interests, some of whom worked for Bunning. Rand Paul takes a much wiser approach and his team will intentionally or unintentionally also help him with getting funding and votes from Kentucky.

Go Rand Paul Go!

That's a good point

Anyways, from what I gather, there aren't any Mises folks teaching in Kentucky, so I assume he found the best people he could. And it does make sense that he would stay within the state.

I think

they can advise him on tax and budget policy, and then it does not matter which monetary school they are. Many micro-economists also probably have nothing to do with monetary policy. There are not many Austrians. In any case, Rand Paul has a good layman foundation on Austrian monetary policy to represent this.
Remember Peter Schiff told Lew Rockwell in a recent podcast that most of the marco-economists were Keynesians, so he decided to go into micr-economy instead, e.g. accounting etc. Remember, ALL (or in any case most) micro-economists work with the aim of balancing a budget, just like Austrians on the macro-level.

Thinking the same thing

They could all be Keynesians. That would not be cool.

Dr. Brain?

Is that supposed to be Brian? Can't go wrong with a Dr. Brain!

Are they all Austrians?
