Any FLA people here thinking about leaving CT

How is Florida like around Jupiter. My wife is a nurse and if we sell here we can almost pay cash for a house. I would have to comute for a awhile. I am a self employed tree guy. I also have a teaching degree.

I think the crap is about to hit the fan and I think I should bail while I can.

Any advise?

Florida is different

its like a whole another country, or state, just depends on what part of Florida your in. I'd think about your decision more. http://scottishkyle.blogspot.com/

I have nothing to compare it too, I'm a lifer

But some comments in response to below noted comments.
Most places the property tax is not low (to me), I pay about 4,000.00 a year. One area to consider if your wife is a nurse is the University of Florida - Shands, they have a huge medical industry here and you can live on the outskirts, more rural, lower property prices etc. Again prop tax are high, but having room for a garden and some livestock priceless.

I don't know where we have leaders on anything, a few weeks ago they gutted the Dept of Ag's firearms fund and the ability to get a concealed weapons permit timely is estimated to go from 6 months to atleast a year. They signed a bill to collect DNA on certain felony arrests, not conviction just arrests. To my knowledge, Crist hasn't signed that one yet, but I have no reason to think he wont.

They just passed the mandatory seatbelt rule as a primary offence, meaning that they can pull you over for it. It used to be that if they pulled you over for something else, they could cite you for the seatbelt infraction. But now they can stop you just for that.

I would stay away from coastal areas, taxes are indeed higher and hazard insurance will kick your ass. Think Hurricane Hugo, Charlie and Andrew. Also stay away from flood zones, rivers as such. Our updated FEMA Flood maps have nearly everywhere a flood zone.

Just some thoughts pre-coffee average.

Why Florida?

This place is turning into such a craphole I can't wait to get out myself! If you are just looking for a state that is fairly warm with no state taxes, try Tennessee.

Florida is definitely a pretty good 2nd amendment state, at least so far. Definitely stay away from the cities because that is where all the morons live. Jupiter is way expensive and anywhere south of that is too. And you had better learn spanish if you want to live anywhere in south Florida!

You can pick up some foreclosures in Port St Lucie or Margate, which are near Jupiter, or in Kissimmee, which is close to Orlando but crowded during summer tourist season, or in Lee County which includes the towns of Fort Myers or Cape Coral (mostly full of retirees), or Manatee County (Bradenton-also retirees but beware of migrants and gangs), or in Pasco County near Port Richey or Spring Hill although you have to watch out for sinkholes around there (I know where most of the foreclosures are, I work for a firm processing them all). Stay away from Polk County, it is turning into a haven for the meth labs and perverts. St Pete/Clearwater has a huge active RP/C4L meetup group that works with the Orlando group. Univ of South Florida area in Tampa is also good for medical clinics/hospitals/teaching but don't live in Tampa (!!), commute from Brooksville or Dade City or Zephyrhills (all nice inland small towns that empty of retirees during the summer months).

Inland Florida is more like "old" Florida, where the good old boys network helps keep you safe and sane, so the UF-Shands idea is a pretty good one! Definitely red light cameras going up all around the cities. Nurses are also needed in the public high schools for the medical programs, they don't hire anyone without an RN.

Just check flood zones and have the land tested for sinkholes if you do come! We would welcome another patriot :)

Good luck!

Jupiter...is pricey and close to the Miami hordes....

The Big Bend area and the Panhandle are great...lots of land ..hunting ...farming ...fishing.. ....easy to become food and energy independent here.....much lower population than points south.....and an awesome network of patriots.....come help shake up Florida politics!

Go west , it is freer

in Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho. Cheaper too. I know of several places for sale here in Wyoming, and in Montana very cheap, out in the country, and many of them are off grid, with solar/wind etc. Most are under 200,000, and some much less.

Florida...

Has been a leader in 2nd Amendment freedom....castle docrine...gun in your vehicle@work parking lot law....concealed carry....ban on suspension of 2nd Amendment in any emergency...

Property taxes are low as long as you live on the property..........we havent been a leader in things like medical marijuana or decriminalization....but we're working to change that.....

and its warm here....

Links?

I'd consider something in WY or MT, especially off grid.

Hello, these are what I know of: EDIT

My next door neighbor just announced that he is selling his house now. I will probably talk to him this week, and find out who is listing it, unless he is selling it himself. It was built as a Y2K building, all solar, and hidden in the woods, has place for horses. Wood heat. Very cute, too. They bought it a couple years ago for 110,000. They put a little work into it, so probably will ask a bit more. Taxes are probably around 1000.00 a year. It is in Wyoming.around 40 acres. EDIT I just went over there with another neighbor and he showed me around the place. It is gorgeous. It is already on the market. Here is the site:
http://www.century21rite.com/recreate.html
for some reason this link doesn't work, but when you go to it, just click on the left where it says "chisholm trail". that will be the one.

In the same subdivision, there is another one, new, and very nice.

This one has been on the market a long time, and the owner/builder really needs to sell it, so offer LOTS less. Taxes probably less than 2000.
It is also totally off grid, but the ad doesn't say so. I know for a fact that it is, however, as I live in this subdivision. around 40 acres

There is another small log cabin across the road from this one. I believe that is for sale too. cheaper than the above one. Also 40 acres.

In Montana, my son is wanting to sell his place, as he is a builder, and is having trouble making his mortgage, but has yet to put it on the market. It is on 20 acres, not offgrid, but some neighbors of his are off grid. It is a livable house, but not completely finished. He says he is motivated, and will negotiate and will work to finish work to be done if desired. It is between Butte, Mt. and Whitehall. He is surrounded by neighbors who are Ron Paulers, and including the realtor below.

This is where one can find cheap land in Montana, and Wyoming:
I can vouch for this company as it is who we bought our land from, and the above property (my son's) was also bought from them.

had to add that last one, it is said realtor and neighbor of my son yodeling. :)

If you have any interest in any of these, email me and I will hook you up with my son, or try to find more information on the others.

Thank You

I have to get my wife on board, Even just for a month.

You can sell a house where you live?

Amazing.

"Bend over and grab your ankles" should be etched in stone at the entrance to every government building and every government office.

i live in Fla

becoming more of a police state everyday.traffic cameras going up everywhere.more invasion of privacy

Yeah, those damn things are

Yeah, those damn things are becoming increasingly common in Orlando. Write your state representatives and senators and ask them to introduce a law similar Mississippi's House Bill 1568:

http://billstatus.ls.state.ms.us/documents/2009/html/HB/1500...
http://billstatus.ls.state.ms.us/2009/pdf/history/HB/HB1568.xml

"AN ACT TO PROHIBIT THE GOVERNING AUTHORITY OF ANY COUNTY OR MUNICIPALITY FROM ENACTING OR ENFORCING ORDINANCES AUTHORIZING THE USE OF AUTOMATED RECORDING EQUIPMENT OR SYSTEMS TO ENFORCE COMPLIANCE WITH OR TO IMPOSE OR COLLECT ANY FINE, FEE OR PENALTY FOR VIOLATION OF ANY TRAFFIC LAWS, RULES OR REGULATIONS ON ANY PUBLIC STREET, ROAD OR HIGHWAY WITHIN THIS STATE; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES."

We really need to pound the house and senate on getting something similar to that here. While I despise red light runners (every morning when I drive to work I sit waiting at a green arrow so 2-3 assholes can blow through a red), I despise automated revenue generators even more.

Traffic Cameras - Are A City Deal - Not Florida State Government

Get Out Of The Cities!

Florida may have a crappy McCain supporter for a governor - but Crist is leaving to run for U.S. Senate, and here's to hoping he wont even make it past the primary....we have a great bunch of small government liberty lovers in the house.....they are the majority, and thanks to them and the blessings in disguise from our poor economy - and a balanced budget requirement - state government size and spending is shrinking....
