Glenn Beck compares Ron Paul to founding fathers

so, i've been boycotting the glenn beck show due to his ridiculous comments that we all know about, but maybe we're getting to him. i was just flipping through the channels and noticed he had pat buchanan on, so i had to watch (sorry). anyway, at the very end, glenn beck brought up the fact that Ron Paul is the closest to the founders running for president. Buchanan didn't specifically mention Dr. Paul in his reply, but he did defend his position on removing our troops from around the world. it made me happy.

Interesting

Wow. I'm speechles. I mean, it's true, but for Glenn Beck to say it? Luckily for him he didn't call our Founders terrorists too. Wonder how well that would have gone over.

I'm suprised...

The network lets him talk about Ron Paul anymore.

The mainstream media is dead.

I like Pat Buchanan

but he just can't seem to shake his inner Fascist. He defends the Vietnam war to this day, and he shilled for 2 of the worst presidents since FDR. As far as democracy goes, we GATA make this simple point: In a democracy there are NO individual rights. Only the majority has rights, and they are unlimited.

Old school conservatives...

...are often times split on foreign policy, especially the Vietnam one. Most old school conservatives were 100% supportive of the Cold War and viewed the USSR as a threat (and justifiably so), but don't believe we should have waged proxy wars such as in Vietnam. As Dr. Paul correctly states now and again, Republicans have traditionally been elected to end such conflicts (i.e. Eisenhower after Korea, Nixon after Nam).

I watched for 3 minutes and he gave numbers on how to order his book and mentioned it about 5 times how he wrote a book. I wasn't sure if it was an informercial.

I don't get it.

How can he talk nice to Pat who says the same things as
Ron Paul I just don't understand what the heck is going on.

Buchanan was on Hannity and Colmes last night

I caught the last part of it. I couldn't believe how Pat Buchanan seemed to be quoting Ron Paul but for some reason did not MENTION him, and how Hannity treated him so respectfully, without interrupting - opposite of how he has treated Ron Paul in the past , while he had said almost the exact same things!
Buchanan must be "above" promoting the fringe candidate Ron Paul. Maybe he doesn't want to jeopardize the handful of write-in votes he gets every 4 years?!

I guess I am kidding, but if Buchanan doesn't officially endorse Ron Paul - and SOON - then he loses whatever credibility he had with me.

Sounds like Pat is reading Ron's speeches.

Are Mormons libertarian

As a co-religionist with both Glenn Beck and Mitt Romney, and an avid Ron Paul supporter I feel I have to get in on this.

During the middle of the 20th century the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints had many firebrands of liberty. Ezra Taft Benson, J. Reuben Clark and David O. McKay all come to mind, along with lesser known patriots such as W. Cleon Skousen and Jerrald Newquist. Today, I have to dig to find anything less than 30 years old that may have been spoken from Temple Square by a Church leader that deals primarily with individual liberty and what can be done to both preserve and enhance it. I find snippets frequently, but no sermons that deal primarily or exclusively with the freedom movement.

Does this bother me?? To no end!!! I find that most Mormons want little to do with the political process. Most in my congregation that have an opinion support Romney, but they are not out there knocking on doors and talking with total strangers, so the support, like most support for Romney, is passive at best.

Are the Mormons libertarian?? Probably less than 10% even know what the word means, and fewer embrace any of the precepts and principles. This is my observation of a very small percentage of Mormons nationwide, and even smaller of those worldwide.

One local leader I know brags to no end how all of his children can recite the preamble to the Constitution. When asked if they knew the powers of Congress as expressed in Article 1, the 1000 yard stare takes over. My own children were taught the principles of LIBERTY in addition to being encouraged to learn and recite as much of the Constitution as they possibly could. They understand. My youngest especially so.

Getting back to the original question: Are Mormons libertarian? The Church teaches many of the principles, but sadly, like most Americans, the overwhelming majority are sheep that will be led by whatever politican says what they think they want to hear. If we can garner enough support for Dr Paul, a lot of Mormons will follow.

I can provide a reading list of my favorite books and sermons by Mormons that address directly or indirectly the principles of liberty, so don't hesitate to PM me if you would like to take a look. Most of my books are long out of print, but a good deal of the material can be found with a google search and a little work.

Mormon + Libertarian = Oxymoron

Having grown up in Salt Lake City for the first 30 years of my life with family members who where active in the LDS church, I can definitely say that I would not consider most Mormons to be Libertarians - most want to do everything possible to force their way of life down your throat, and they won't hesitate to use government to do so (there was recently a law passed making it illegal to buy a car on Sunday, for example). Now, there are of course exceptions to every rule, and some Mormon people are very tolerant and have a live-and-let-live attitude, which is what the religion actually teaches.

I think that Dr. Paul does fairly well in Utah because most Mormons believe that their religion has been persecuted, especially by the Federal government, so any candidate that espouses values of less government interference will be well received. Also, Mormons tend to be very self-reliant and generous, and believe that communities should take care of their own, rather than relying on government to do so, which also meshes very well with Dr. Paul's ideas.

It's just what people do, not necessarily Mormons.

Anytime you have an overwhelming majority of people with something in common, the temptation is there to band together and exercise power on others.

is this on youtube? I dont have cable.

Pat Buchanan in Paul's cabinet

He'd make a fine Sec. of State.

IDk

I don't know about all that. While people unfairly call Dr. Paul "isolationist," Mr. Buchanan really is an isolationist!

I could see Pat in a Ron Paul administration

And would be happy to see him alongside Ron. Make some room for Jack Cafferty too :-)

Glenn Beck: Founding fathers were in bed with Islamo-fascists

You know he's setting it up for the 16th and the Tea Party and he'll get all serious and the "DIVIDED WE FALL!!!" logo will be in the background, and he'll look at the camera all intent, "the Founding Fathers were terrorists, make no mistake about it, but that was ok back then, but now we live in the US, and we're a free democracy, so you can't protest... blah blah blah. I'm Glen Beck, everyone's a terrorist, buy my book!"

Glen Beck needs to do

more reading if he thinks we live in a democracy. Maybe that's his problem...he's liviing in a democracy, while our founders gave us a Republic. Giuliani may let him borrow his reading list, which was complied by Ron Paul.

As Ben Franklin told the woman who asked, what form of government have you given us? Franklin replied, a Republic, if you can keep it.

Beck needs to read up on what the difference is. Although, he's not the only one. Dobbs calls it a democracy as well, along with many other talking heads and government officials.

One would think that people would at least know what kind of government we have. I know we are some 230 years removed from the founding of America, but if we know nothing else we should know what the difference is between a Republic and a democracy and why our founders chose a Republic.

After all they were a lot wiser than Beck. Just read their writings...the US Constitution, the Bill of Rights and the Federalist Papers.

These writings have survived over 230 years. I wonder where the writings and words of Glen Beck will be 230 years from now?

Reminds me of the old wager...

...I'll give anyone $5,000 if they can prove that the United States is a democracy.

Ah, yes. I hadn't thought of

Ah, yes. I hadn't thought of this angle. He tosses us what seems like a compliment, then elaborates by painting the founders as anarcho-terrorists. And of course they WERE; they were rebelling against an insane tyrannical psychopath. But never mind all that -- the point is that they were TERRORISTS! TERRORISTS, I TELL YA!

I don't understand the Glenn Beck bashing???

Glenn Beck was not the one to call Paul Supporters Terrorist... It was that Horowitz fellar that made the aweful statement.

Glenn Beck

He'll get Curchhill on the show again and ask him, "what did the British think of the Tea Party?"
Churchhill: "Well yes Glenn we didn't like it when the colonists took our tea..."
Beck: "First Guy Fawkes day now the Tea Party, why do you think Ron Paul supporters hate the British so much?"
Churchhill: "Well Glenn I think it's because they drink tea with the Islamo-fascists"
Beck: "How afraid should we be?"
Churchhill: "Well you should be very afraid, ofcourse."
Beck: "Thank you Mr. Churchhill, and we will all be very afraid!"

I do

I heard him after the Paul Giuliani exchange saying "If we (Republicans) start thinking like this (like RP), we're dead!".

I keep reading quite a few sympathetic remarks about Beck here and that he has softened his position on Dr. Paul, but considering he said THAT not very long ago, I would take anything nice he says about RP with a fair bit of skepticism. I don't buy it myself.
