Carbon Tax
Submitted by freedom08 on Tue, 11/27/2007 - 20:02Does anyone know Ron Paul's position on the Carbon Tax or a Cap and Trade system? Or of any resources about either? I'm still trying to sort out the issue and I can't seem to get any non biased thoughts on it.

I hope his position is NO
I hope his position is NO WAY!
This "tax" is bullcrap! It's just a small stepping stone to destroy American sovereignty.
I have confidence that Dr.Paul can read between the lines on this issue.
GLOBAL WARMING IS A SCAM
It's amazing how so many people, without perspective and appropriate discussion of this topic, follow these simpltons like Al Gore, corporate elites, and communist UN propogandists. Al Gore won't discuss global warming with people presenting reality. He'd be exposed as a liar and the dunce that he is. It's too urgent don't you know...Crisis. Big government's best friend....Polar bears with no ice. Rising waters overrunning NY. Worry your litle hearts.
In 1974, the knowitalls thought it was AN ICE AGE that we were approaching....YES, AN ICE AGE.....

So many lies.........
Ron Paul will stay out of the Earth's and Sun's way.....
"If the people ever allow the banks to issue their currency, the banks and corporations which will grow up around them will deprive the people of all property, until their children wake up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered." T. Jefferson
Um, what?
"Al Gore won't discuss global warming with people presenting reality."
It's definitely not a scam. There may be profiteers, but it is indesputable fact Co2 levels are the highest in recorded history, glaciers are melting all over the world, permafrost is melting, droughts are worsening. WHY this is happening is another matter entirely, but it is happening.
Renewable energy...
Is a good idea whether you believe in global warming or not.
One thing that won't solve the problem is taxes and government involvement.
The mainstream media is dead.
Global Warming is a sun job!
Check it out on Wiki before they ban it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_system_warming#Solar_vari...
Al Gore didn't learn about photosynthesis in school. That's when plants turn carbon dioxide into oxygen. If you want to get rid of CO2 just stop breathing. Yes that's right, they want to tax your exhales! Instead of tax just plant a tree.
Wikipedia is no proof nor
Wikipedia is no proof nor scientific source.
Mars is warming, too.

(I figure it's pollution those 2 SUVs we sent!!)

I didn't feel like doing all that research
Actually it's just fun to say Global Warming is a sun job. Ok, fine, let's dig us up some ACTUAL evidence... oh yeah here is the big long CNN article explaining how it's all just a big hoax and we don't need to pay the taxes... silly me I forgot all about that one. Ok, here's AP, Sun is getting hotter: http://www.lubbockonline.com/news/092897/study.htm
with the spin, "adding heat to an Earth already thought to be warming from greenhouse gases."
So again, if you want to stop carbon dioxide just hold you breathe a very long time or try to blow it into a tree. Tell Al Gore he can take his breathing tax and shove it up his carbon footprint!
Cap and Trade cures the threat of a planned economy
A cap and trade system would eliminate most of the bad things which can come out of this global warming hysteria. It would eliminate all kinds of special taxes on transportation and energy. Cap and trade carbons, and let the free market decide how the allowed emissions should be allocated.
Politicians today see global warming as a golden opportunity to introduce far reaching plan economy. By informing people that the most efficient way to cut carbon emissions would be to cap and trade carbons, this extremely dangerous threat of a planned economy would be completely defused. No politican wields any power over a cap and trade system.
The climate doesn't care about HOW the carbondioxide was emitted. Nor should the people who truly cares about the environment. But HOW carbondioxide emitting industries should be regulated and taxed, is everything which power hungry global warming politicians care about...
Ron Paul might even turn around the whole debate to his advantage!
He doesn't need to take sides in the scientific debate about wether global warming is caused by humans or not. He could treat it as a "what if" question. And remember that even the UN IPCC report itself states that ECONOMIC GROWTH is good for fighting global warming and its potential harms! Ron Paul should look into it and grab a good sound byte quote from it.

Ron Paul deals with things pragmatically. He deals with pressing issues. Like the dollar, the war, civil rights. Sure we can all figure out better ways to find energy, but in his mind government is supposed to HELP facilitate the process of things, not run them completely. He wants to empower the individual to come up with solutions and not have to be bound by government regulations, grants and favoritism.
The problem is that people think government is supposed to fix everything. Unfortunately everything they touch becomes a new department with more bureaucrats and more tax dollars wasted.
"Make fun buddy..." - Ron Paul
Here is another area where I have moved away from Democrats
Taxing isnt the solution to all human behavior issues... humans can do the right thing AND do so freely. How about a call to arms like JFK did with the shot for the moon? How about someone that can be trusted and isnt just a shill for this or that group go before the American people and call forth the American Spirit to rise above and end our dangerous reliance on middle east oil as well as lead by example the rest of the world in preserving the only planet we have.
Ron Paul has shown that a man of integrity and honor can inspire the American to do great things... things so great that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts...
yep, cigarette taxes
have nothing to do with the popularity of health. Whole foods, owned by a Libertarian, is a great example of the market providing peoples wants. ALWAYS look to yourself before you look to others!
A carbon tax is not the answer, unless you desire giving governments more power, and obviously, more money.

Problem with "Carbon Tax"
Problem with "Carbon Tax" is, that it simply legislates pollution and breaks property laws.
Whole idea of "Carbon Tax" is: You pay taxes - you can pollute your neighbours.
Perfect property protection
True!
Ideally, one should be forced to pay what it costs to extract carbon from the atmoshpere and put it back in the ground, in par with the carbon one releases into the atmosphere.
Today that would be quite expensive. But it would effectively put an upper limit on what emissions can possibly cost.
There already IS a carbon tax.
It's named the federal gasoline tax, but that's what it is. The key thing to remember is that we need to CUT SPENDING for once. Global warming is a media panic designed to raise taxes, and one way of raising taxes is to propose the same tax under a new name. Forget about it. Cut spending and our problems will go away. Even Reagan (despite myths) didn't cut spending.
