I teach in a lower income

I teach in a lower income school. I have had desks, chairs, and all sorts of foreign objects thrown past my head while I was teaching. I rarely write referrals because I wrote one on a boy that picked up and choked a much smaller boy and the assistant principal wrote on the referral form - take care of this type of problem yourself. In my situation, I don't know if it is the teacher in this stories situation, but it is a administration problem. I feel that something should be in place from the top down. If a child is showing outbursts a teacher need only buzz the office and the student should be taken out where hopefully calmer heads prevail.

Handle it yourself?

A physical assault is a matter for the DA. Schools are some kind of alternate reality.

Defend Liberty!

Need school vouchers.

This is another argument for school vouchers. This appears to be a special needs kid being dumped into a mainstream classroom. Not only is the teacher being forced to teach a student that s/he is not able to deal with, but the wasted time is multiplied by the number of other students in the class.

Children should not be imprisoned in a public school system that is failing for whatever reason. In a school voucher system, either the special needs kids could go somewhere appropriate (at the parents' discretion), or the other parents could send their kids to a school that was willing to teach kids appropriately (essentially firing that administration and likely sucking all the teachers to the new school).

It's a bottom-up solution, which is what the RP movement is about.

This is deeply disturbing...

This is deeply disturbing... especially since I am a public school teacher.

I am surprised that this foster mother has the moral judgement at the end of the video to recognize that there are still good teachers out there. Her ability to avoid generalizing a group of professionals or an educational system as innately evil is an example that we should all follow.

This kid was obviously

This kid was obviously troubled. The teacher obviously brain-washed. The foster mother was no great help. The system is designed to homogenize, regiment and otherwise destroy individualism. Kids know this and fight against so-called "authority" in an effort to preserve their sanity and sense of self. I know I did. And is not this the Great Conflict? - a conflict between being one's self as opposed to being a mindless cog in someone else's wheel?

kids are under attack and

kids are under attack and have little chance to grow up as individuals. Very sad.

They were using Starvation as a punishment ?

The kid got super hungry and got up.

With holding Food is Torture. The kid had a health problem and eating disorder.

Probably a blood sugar problem and she witholds food?

She needs to go to Prison. She is a control freak.
The kid was just trying to EAT LUNCH.

She is guilty of torture and manslaughter, perhaps Murder.

"All I'm doing in my Job" is used a lot by a lot of people in authority to do great evil.

You people are funny...

I had to check to see if I was really on the DP and not some Oprah-sponored site.

You'll believe anything the MSM feeds to you in any context they wish.

Had this been an interview with the teacher instead, describing this huge, arrogant, disruptive student that was threatening her, you'd be applauding for her quick thinking and ability to defend herself.

You people are funny....

No, I don't support knee-jerk reactionaries like you.

Read my statement. It need no supreme court translation.

The teacher was definitely in the wrong, that being said,

The public schools now have to deal with many behavior problems that would not have been condoned in the past. A disruptive student would be sent home for the parents to deal with, and expelled entirely if need be.
Now teachers deal with mental patients, developmentally disabled, you name it, and it is disruptive to the classroom.
It appeared this boy had some problems that she could not handle, and I know teachers are taught to restrain---but obviously she went WAY too far with this.
I guess what I am saying is that teachers should not have to deal with children that need to have the restraining used on them---they should be in a different environment for their sake, and for the rest of the students sake.
