After Michael left this forum has gone to pot
After Michael left there has been a whole lot of nonsense and infighting on this forum that has come from people who have been on for a long time and new people. I don't know whether it's his absence or just a fluke, but come on people can't you focus on goals rather then stroking your own egos?
Some topics that I despise, but won't call for censorship, just ask that people stop bumping them:
-Did we really land on the moon
-anything with "queers" or anything else defamatory in the title-at least try for some diplomacy
-zeitgeist pros or cons
-dailypaul dating service-wth?
-anything from Rhino-can that whore get enough attention?
-age of the earth, religion psychobabble, atheism nonsense
-promoting socialist backstabbers (kucinich)
-chicken little "the sky is falling" or "gold will save your life" B.S.
Can we get back to fixing some problems like getting sound money, good legislators, and out of the war?
Since you've only been around
for 21 weeks, I'll let you in on an observation.
Over more than a year, every single time that Michael was away, or indisposed, and it became known, that triggered a wave of trolls.
Every time.
And now you are seeing it again.
And with the exception of the invasion during the Bob Barr fiasco, it has ALWAYS been a bunch of neocon disruptors doing it. And even that was neocons disguised as fake Libertarians.
It's invariably some neocons. And you can tell, because their posting is always from a neocon perspective.
So, now you know why.

I had to be corrected on this point, no problem. Censorship is wrong. Been here almost 2 years and the site goes through these phases. Eventually though it gets back on topic. And besides there are selected posts that get the front page, the rest is filler.

I'm not a mod, but it does seem conspicuous after I posted this post the forum guidelines were posted that express basically my sentiments. According to the rules this forum is to forward the cause of liberty not for infighting or nonsense. Perhaps the question here is one of willing cooperation.
After reading through this thread, the issues are fairly clear.
1. Some want this forum focused.
2. Some do not.
3. Some take offense at rules as an infringement on their liberties.
Regardless of how each of us might like to use this forum, I would think that most of us would freely admit that DP is also something of an advertisement to the world about Ron Paul. Because the site is generally dedicated to him, he will certainly be assumed by many visitors to be somewhat represented by what appears here.
We, therefore, have the opportunity to decide whether we might like to cooperate with Ron Paul in mind, or not.
Political campaigns are very tricky things. Politics are filled with toxic people and topics. For example, while we generally think of political endorsements as good things, it could be the kiss of death to have one's campaign endorsed by, say, Dick Cheney or Howard Dean. Why, because millions of people hate each of these guys. Similarly, no matter how right or wrong you might be on some certain topic, it COULD be the kiss of death to include it in your campaign. Take, say, man-made global warming as an example. It's a very controversial topic, so if you pick a side on it, you're automatically going to tick off a boatload of people.
So you have to PRIORITIZE. If man-made global warming happens to be your primary purpose for running for office, they you make your convictions known and you take the risk associated with that. But what if you think this particular topic, while important, simply isn't important enough to be one of your key topics?
Well, in that case, you probably wouldn't want a website devoted to your campaign to be covered up in discussion about it. Is this because you are afraid to state your position? No, not necessarily. It COULD be because you are simply SMART, and you understand the need to "pick your battles".
And so we are in a position to decide---each of us---whether we might like to be considerate of Dr. Paul's public image or not. If we choose not, then nothing here needs to change. But if we took the view that we are each representatives of Dr. Paul by virtue of discussing things publicly here, then perhaps some re-organization of the site, as well as some willingly-self-imposed discipline in our posting is in order.
If we are free to be sovereigns, we are certainly free to collaborate for a good cause.
Michael could simply make and enforce a rule, obviously, leaving us no choice in the matter. Or we could take the higher road of self restraint.
Or we can leave it like it is.
We are free to be as responsible as we'd care to be.
