another thing they do NOT discuss is how many people are STILL on the government dole.... how many people are on the extended unemployment .... that rate is up. but they won't tell you that.

Once again, we should take a look at ShadowStats to get a clearer picture. Using the formulas that were used before the 80's when they started to be changed for political reasons, the real unemployment figure is 20%. We are rapidly approaching the same levels as experienced in the Great Depression.

The reason is simple, we just can't compete in the global marketplace anymore. As a country, we hemorage cash like no tomorrow, with little productive output to balance it out.
Back in the 80's we only had Japan to worry about. Today, we have the rest of Asia and South America to compete with, that's billions of people who will work for squat, and now have the infrastructure and technology.
So far, these countries have been subsidizing our consumption by buying our debt, but that is soon to change when they realize it's worthless.
That's when things will get real interesting around here.
in comparison to the early 80s are things worse? I keep having this discussion with a sibling of mine who states unemployment is not as bad as the 80s (which was over 10% nationwide?) when they were looking for work. If I am correct, I believe things are much worse now. Or are they? I would appreciate if someone could clarify this so that I can "discuss" this with my sibling.

The government lieing in relation to"the numbers". They are all manipulated behind the scenes now...meaning we don't really have a "true" picture. Also understand this...
The M3, "the money supply" and the only true understanding of inflation (which is a term measuring the growth of the money supply - not prices) has progressed this way:
The fractional reserve banking upward pressure on this hasn't even begun. When banks, which exist to lend, begin lending again (by creating more money via the push of a button)...this will balloon to over $100 Trillion. Worse now? You betcha.

bu bu bu but MSM says consumer confidence is on the rise
they wouldn't lie to me - would they?
Case in point: Oil hits 7-month high after U.S. jobs data

MSM is the new Ministry of Doublethink
Well...
Maybe they're now measuring the consumer's confidence that we're screwed.
Kinda like taking companies out of the Dow that don't help the numbers...

No shock there...
that puts our real unemployment over 20%.
Good thing the experts say this will all be over this fall!
I actually agree with them, in a way. It may very well all be over.. just not in a good way.
