Mods, please address issue of recent thread lockdowns and comment purges
Submitted by Jiminy Cricket on Sat, 06/06/2009 - 11:45Edit 6/8/09- This thread is intended to address the issue of recent thread lockdowns and complete comment removal that is taking place.
It happened on a couple threads that I am aware of, one of which I had originally reposted here and had referenced in my title.
The one I posted here at length was Jefferson's "Message for the Control Freaks". In my title, I asked why the comments had been removed.
The other thread, sunny's reposting of the guidelines, is referenced in comments below.
Both threads have since been restored, but it has yet to be addressed why the thread lockdowns and comment purges are taking place.
Please note- This thread is NOT a replacement for Jefferson's "Message for the Control Freaks" thread.
Since that thread has been restored, for clarity I have removed that post from the body of this thread.
Here is the link for that thread: http://www.dailypaul.com/node/95280

moderating has to evolve...
just as our freedom movement does...
we are living in revolutionary earth changing times and having one mod who does not keep up with the isses for example marijuana/hemp issue this mod should be suspended.... just as I was since January(for posting a 9/11 thread on the front page)

Great post Jiminy Cricket
my 2 cents.
first, let me say that i think 90% of the mods are good. the problem is that one bad apple spoils the whole bunch.
i have a new updated proposal.
how about if the mods are required to leave their "badge number" in the threads and post that they feel the need to edit/censor.
this way mods will not have to leave their name and face ridicule from their peers. only Micheal will know who "badge #420" is and he will have more control over the mods and daily paul. this will also allow the mods that wish to remain anonymous to remain anonymous.

Thanks MMJ. I hope no one thinks this post is anti-mod.
I'm sure those of us who remember what it was like before can appreciate that there are mods now.
However, there is a problem that needs to be addressed.
Whether they leave an identifying marker on a post or even a comment/explanation in mod forum, there should be some kind of trail that can be looked at if there is a question.
Communication would save a lot of trouble later on.
*Moderator assistance please*
It appears I have been locked out of being able to edit this thread.
I am trying to edit it to clarify the purpose of this thread, which is to address the comment purges and thread lockdowns, and also to indicate that this thread is not intended as a replacement for Jefferson's "Message for the Control Freaks" thread, as has apparently been assumed by someone who edited my title.
Besides the two threads referenced in this thread that were locked and had comments purged, cactus1010 had been locked out from being able to edit his "democratic list of shame" thread. The comments were not purged on his thread, but he was unable to edit it.
Now I am having the same problem.
What in blazes is going on here?
(I don't suppose I need to point out the irony of my being locked out from being able to edit this thread...)
*Edit- Cancel request for assistance. Edit worked this time.*
Don't everybody jump at once.
Sorry this thread got so out of hand yesterday. I am partially at fault for taking the bait if the usual antagonists.
I would be really surprised if someone comes forward, and says "Yeah, I did it.'
Remember what I wrote earlier in this thread about Michael coming home from vacation?
"You know how right before you go on vacation, you feel like you have to work your butt off. just to be able to GO on vacation? And then when you return FROM vacation you have a stack of work that makes you feel like you have extra work, just for you TAKING a vacation. ( I don't know if that made any sense)
I feel like this is what is going to hit MN in the face after he gets back from taking care of a family member, and I really don't want to contribute to it, more than I already have.
I would imagine it is like a parent returning home from work, and having a bunch of children tugging at their clothing whining so and so did this to me today, and so and so did this......waaahhhh"
I am STILL saying that this is an important issue in many respects, but I think your desired result is not likely going to be achieved, as no one seems to want to address it.
I have great respect for what you bring to the table here, and get an occasional chuckle out of you tugging on rhino's ear, but I don't think "the mod squad" wants to address it. I think it was a hint from one of them, and the hint was taken.
Anyways, here is a big goooshy ehug from me. You make my eyes "watery" too.

Not sure if there's a rogue mod problem or just lack of communication, but something needs looked at.

A Humble suggestion...
I agree with the person who said that conspiracy threads might be better off if they don't spend much time on the front page. Though I am not especially interested or persuaded about conspiracy theories, what concerns me even more is the urge to censor their proponents.
I will also say that I am impressed by the argument that these threads are offered as a way to educate us about history...which we don't want to repeat. When I have made posts about or commented on the American Revolution I am doing it for a similar reason; I hope to invite comparison with modern times, or simply wish to inspire.
There is another site out there (which I won't name) that is much more strongly moderated than this one. The other day I actually discovered my comment on an article was denied. Here I am, thinking myself to be the paragon of civility, and they censor me.

I don't agree with Alan Moore
First, I see conspiracy theorists as exceptionally talented/gifted writers, and researchers. Atlas Shrugged is a Conspiracy novel, and many novelists skrt with conspiracy, Tom Clancey, for one. Robert Anton Wilson and Robert Shea wrote The Illuminati,, excellent..
Second, Conspiracy Theory is conspiracy theory only until the facts come out, and in some things, such as 911, we may not know the facts (Truth is subjective in conspiracy, facts are what establishes truth, but truth is not fact.
Third, many people today are NOT conspiracy theorists, but victims of YouTube propeganda.
Conspiracy theorists are MUM on 911 becasue there are not enough facts and too much "truth" based on propeganda. Saying 911 was an inside job is not conspiracy theory. It's immature, and what can be expected from those who are not conspiracy theorists...
Finally, the truth of the world is that there are many truths.
WE ARE GOING TO WIN!
I agree
When it comes to absolutes... the truth is, we scarcely know the truth. But you already knew this.
