Five Monkeys
Submitted by troy on Sun, 06/14/2009 - 20:46
Start with a cage containing 5 monkeys. Inside the cage hang a banana on a string, and place a set of stairs under it. Before long a monkey will go to the stairs and start to climb toward the banana. As soon as it touches the stairs, all the monkeys get sprayed with cold water. See what happens next:

Dumb Remarks
It's a case of monkey see/monkey do. The application of this phenomenon is illustrated by people making irrational statements, not because they have thought about it, but because they have heard someone else say it. For example:
1. How could government pay its bills without the income tax?
2. We need the Federal Reserve to control our money.
3. There isn't enough gold to return to the gold standard.
4. We're fighting them over there so we don't have to fight them over here.
5. Government needs to get guns "off the street".
6. Sure we have to give up some of our freedoms so we can be safe.
7. Even if Global Climate Change isn't happening, we have to do something.
8. I can't vote for a third party candidate because I don't want to waste my vote.
9. "Compelling Government Interest", as if government had interests of it's own, rather than existing solely to protect our rights.
10. Supreme Court Justices serve lifetime appointments (in fact, they serve for periods of "good behavior" - they can be removed).
great list
great application and analogy of today's events.
So these five monkeys
Are sitting around minding their own business when all of the sudden some one drops a computer in their cage. On the monitor they see a man. This man is speaking about what the banana is and who is shooting the water at them and why they have been living in fear of the steps for so long.
The monkeys proceed to investigate this wild mans claims and sure enough his claims are true.
The monkeys then get together and try to figure-out what would happen if any of them attempted to walk up the steps. None of them have been hit by water. Maybe the water man isn't looking?
Sadly only 2 out of the 5 monkeys continue to think in such terms. The others like their lives without water attacks. Thus democracy rules. The majority rule.
Little do they know that the banana is freedom and liberation from their caged existence and a trip back to the foundations of a once great nation founded as a Republic. The steps are a means to get there. The water is the resistance from those in power. If they banded as one and fought their way to the banana freedom would be their outcome.
I shall never look at bananas the same way again...
...after reading what you wrote, Sarge. Nicely put. :)
That's why liberty minded thinking individuals
need to get involved in government. Check out www.freedom-force.org
I like bananas:
I have to have my bananas every day or I am not happy. Guess I'd get my woopins regularly...
I have seen this story a few times before. It always reminds me of the story of how to catch a wild pig.

ever read about the baby elephant syndrome?

Marc Stevens has a great name for this...
he calls it "residual tyranny". If you think a little on that phrase it's a perfect description. Everyone ought to give their children a little lesson in the mechanics of "residual tyranny" so they can begin very early learning to look behind the curtain and learning how to defend themselves while in the act. The film is great, but if only one monkey had properly defended himself either (and preferably both) mentally and physically the chain could be broken.
Remember the greatest loss is not forward momentum, but potential that is never unleashed.

The
banana is rotten by now. :)
Good video
Hopefully it will help some of the TV zombies understand which way is up.
Though I think Karl Pilkington would have something profound to say about it. ;)
thanks for the heads up on pinkington
didn't know who he was, so i watched a video on youtube about him. david icke told him:
"youre not a stupid man and if people tell you that it is because they are intellectual snobs who are themselves stupid because they have accepted a version of pre-programmed intelligence and are trying to impose it on you."
sounds very familiar.
Thanks, I think
has merit. That red monkey looks like me. LOL

people are not monkeys
it takes us 12-13 years to get like that. It is called schools.
correction correction -- it's called abdicating parents who
send their kids to gov't schools.

correction correction correction --
It's called the "State" that will harass/arrest/fine parents for wanting NOT to send their children to government schools.
And, if harass/arrest/fine doesn't work, then the "State" takes the children away.
Who do you think is turning on the cold water in the cage in this video?
That would be the State.

to be fair, i tried looking on the internet
to see if this was just a fable or an actual experiment. the closest i found was this thread of a few people wondering the same question: http://mymagicaldroplets.wordpress.com/2009/01/22/the-monkey...
one of them replied:
"Actually I remember seeing this on tv. The monkeys were vicious everytime a new monkey would approach the ladder. I’ve been trying to find the video on youtube today, but I’ve been unsuccessful."

all you have to do is look
all you have to do is look at the republican and democratic parties..

This is what we are doing to ourselves
This is what we are doing to ourselves, today. Any time somebody "steps out of line," we do as society has come to expect, without ever knowing why.
