Regulating the 'evil weed: FDA tobacco control all about the future'
The fact that tobacco products have never been regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is a quirk of politics and economics.
Despite the bald-faced prevarication of big-tobacco executives over many decades, science long ago demonstrated that nicotine is a highly addictive drug whose delivery systems came with dangerous side effects, including death. In terms of relapse rates, studies have found that nicotine is harder to kick than virtually every other powerful addictive substance, including cocaine, heroin and alcohol.
But as soon as President Obama (who himself struggles with nicotine addiction) signs a bill passed last week by Congress, the FDA will at long last begin regulating tobacco.
“We have allowed our nation to be over taxed and over regulated and overrun by bureaucrats, the founders would be ashamed of us for what we're putting up with.” Ron Paul
Disobey. Disobey. Disobey.

It's about time.
