Below is a link about the currency war that may be about to explode.
"There are meetings being held Monday and Tuesday in Yekaterinburg, Russia, among Chinese President Hu Jintao, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and other top officials of the six-nation Shanghai Cooperation Organization. The United States, which asked to attend, was denied admittance. Watch what happens there carefully. The gathering is, in the words of economist Michael Hudson, “the most important meeting of the 21st century so far.”
If you hear rumblings of war and the justification to bomb someone, this will likely be the underlying reason.

The dollar is a doomed currency
If the BRIC counties don’t plot the assassination here it will be at the next meeting. I would think it will be done when our govt is not aware, like a cultural exchange conference focused on the social value of cricket, table tennis and hockey.
How long do we expect other countries to allow us to steal their wealth through inflation?

This is a pretext for WWIII ! The warmongers in power will not hesitate to go to war rather then go down with this ship. This is why the dollar has not collapsed completely yet because China and Russia know this. This is why China is buying up all the resources they can and they are buying most of the gold in the world too. They preparing for war. So is Russia because they know the criminals in power will not go down without a fight.
I doubt it will all fall apart next week but when they think they are ready they will pull the plug completely on the dollar. They are trading FRN's for tangible items at the moment like we all should be doing .
There is one other possibility and that is this is all orchestrated to wring in a one world currency so six to one or half dozen to the other as to which would be worse; war or one world currency foisted on us. Part of me would rather have the war but be careful what you wish for...

China and Russia will probably dump the dollar within a week.
This is a foregone conclusion. Their decision was already made. The reaction from the West is what shall be interesting.

Kevin, why within the week? I've been so busy with work for the last few weeks that I haven't been able to keep up with all the news recently. What exactly is going on which makes you think this week is it?

I think they will make their announcement within a week.
It may be longer before they implement. I'm just guessing based on the news articles I've seen.

I don't think there will be any announcement
I think the pieces are in place, and the trading will just be done in other currencies, and our nation will just "mysteriously" slip into third world status.
Truth exists, and it deserves to be cherished.
There are two big factors involved here.
1. The US is still a major buying customer
2. The US still has unprecedented military superiority and can drop a bomb on any front door in the world.
Also the listening capabilities to monitor anyone anytime is what turned the tide in Iraq.

the u.s. is a big customer for chinese imports, but only 337.8 billion dollars in 1,428.5. if they drop the dollar, they won't need us as a big customer any longer. and china alone has millions more active duty military personnel than we do.
but they spend 10% of what we do
On their military.
Most of those soldiers are for keeping the peace at home, since they don't have the ability to move them anywhere. In a modern war, most would be cannon fodder. It does mean that it is impossible to really invade china though.
Most of our military budget
Most of our military budget is spent garrisoning soldiers in 137 countries around the world which makes us more vulnerable. Also with the known waste in government spending like $500 dollar hammers and stuff I wouldn't put to much stock in the spending difference. It's probably more frugal vs bloated bureaucracy.

also, sure Chinas miltary has grown somewhat but we still have the most advanced, trained, and powerful (weaponry wise). I'm sure any country would think of what happen with Japan for starting a war with america?

Are Russia and China willing to risk loosing one of their best customer as well as getting the hell bombed out of them!
There is zero danger of the US bombing Russia or China.
The United States does not have a national defense. It has a military designed for aggression only. In a strategic war involving serious weapons like ICBMs, the nation with no defenses automatically loses.
The US power structure knows this, and so do the Russians and Chinese.

The best defense is a good offense
or at least that is the U.S. military Doctrine. Our government decided during the cold war, that trying to have much of a civil defense against a nuclear war, and making plans for digging out afterward was futile, The better strategy was a pre-emptive one - basically, don't wait until the other guy takes a swing at you. Note how Israel does it.
It's not a good strategy, however. It's suicide in a nuclear war
I hate to sound conspiratorial, but I think the real reason that we have no protection for the civilian population is because they don't want anything to protect the civilian population.
Possibly because so many Americans are armed, I think the tyrants want the civilian population to be held hostage in any strategic war.

I heard is that the elite know they will be safe in bunkers, but afterward, they don't want a significant population to have to share limited resources with.
Too many survivors puts a real burden on any authority - sort of a different version of what you are saying I guess.

Yeah...we don't have a national defense at all. We have the same if not better technology defense wise as Russia/China, better weapons, even lazers... So I'm pretty sure that and the fact we could drop another a bomb on anyone, that's a decent national defense, compared to weaker/non-free countries eh?

No, that's an offensive capability.
If Russia wanted to clean the US off the surface of the world forever, they could do it in one day.
The same is not true with the shoe on the other foot. Russia and China have a capability to dig in and hit us in a second wave. Much of their industry would survive an American nuclear attack, and much of their population would, in large clusters. The same is not true of the U.S., which has zero civil defense protection for the masses,and very little industry to start with. Yes, I have no doubt that Dick Cheney and other geriatric VIPs would survive a nuclear attack in their clandestine bunkers, but I think you'd have a hard time utilizing them as infantrymen afterward.
As for our weapons being better, I think that's mostly P.R. baloney intended to offset the fact that their nuclear capabilities are so high. We have some superiority in some categories of conventional weaponry. For the most part, though, it's a myth.
