Menengitis vaccine necessary for school...

Just got the note from school that my son won't be allowed back in school unless he gets a meningitis vaccine and a tetanus booster.
Is there anything in particular about these vaccines? I've read somen not-so-terrible reactions and a few bad ones too. Any personal knowledge out there?
Also, what is the constitutionality of mandatory vaccinations? Can he be forced to get it?

vaccine exemption
All staes allow for a medical exmption, but you'll never get one. All but two allow religious exemption, What state are you in. There is going to be a big push for more vaccines. The swine flu vaccine will be pushed on school kids this fall. As soon as a vacccine is made mandatory you will have no way out unless you take the religious exemption. There was a time that the DPT was not alowed for anyone over 8 years old. The reaction rate is too high, Now they are recommending boosters for all ages. The tetnus is no longer just tetnus. Its either DT, or DPT. Take the religious exemption. My granddaughter is starting a new High Shool this september. At her IEP meeting I submitted the the medical form and of course the religious exemption that I have used since she was two. I informed the them that if there was going to be a problem with the exemption then I wanted to know right now. She looked a little shocked. Then said, I'm sure it won't be a problem. It's just harder to convince these people when the kid is older and has taken every vacccine, then when you take the exemption when they are young. There is a big difference between recommended, and mandated.

you must call their bluff. Also is is illegal because they most likely accept government grants and therefore must follow federal law-- that makes it illegal since they are violating health and safety statutes, failed to give you the ingredients and the associated health effects; they have also failed to demonstrate the health benefit.

Try this
Create your own exemption usings these easy steps:
1. Take a piece of paper
2. Type "Affidavit of Exemption" at the top
3. Then type "I hereby claim exemption to vaccinations because they may be harmful to my health or damaging to my immune system."
4. Go to a notary, sign, date and make copies
5. Send the original to the school
6. Send a copy to the school's Legal Department via certified mail
7. Keep your copy
At this point the school is required to take some action to respond, and most schools will just let it slide. Remember, these steps will take the liability for any adverse reaction to the shots off your shoulders and on to theirs, and their legal eagle won't miss that subtlety.

By sending your children to the government
for schooling, you are giving up some of your rights over your own children. But, yes, you do not have to give them a vaccine. I think there are only two states that require it. Mississippi, and another I think. You could probably google the laws for your state. But, although vaccines are dangerous, and not good for your child, do you not think that sending your children to the government schools are good for them? And look who you are giving them to.

I don't think it even exists as a stand alone vaccine. If you "ask" for a tetanus shot, you will get a DPT...no thanks.

No one can be forced
They're hoping you won't question it. The federal government gives the state governments an incentive to push vaccinations on children by offering an extra $100 in federal funds for every child the state can prove is "fully vaccinated," so they won't voluntarily give you the information you need to exempt your child.

They are given ultimatims and bad free advice and find themselves needing attorneys they can't afford. Ralph Nader, ACLU, a number of organizations and people work very hard for others to have a right to choices that benefir peopleopposed to givernment or corporations who place profit over health, and the US Constitution.
Matter of fact, the other day I went to the Social Security Office to ask a question. While I was in line, a woman came bursting out of a room screaming, "You can't take my baby". I actually fealt fear for my life so relieved to not be hearing gun shots, and everyone in the room looked very sad and worried. I don't know these people, but O looked at them like Well, Do something!,, and they look at me like, "just another day here". I got sick and I had to leave, very upsetting, and no there is nothing I could do. I don't know the story behind why she lost her baby. But as far as I'm concerned, that child was taken in broad daylight and there was nothing anyone could do without investing a great deal of time and money freeing youself from the mess the mothers child lost her baby to.

No, they can't
I've heard horror stories, but all the parents I know who kept themselves informed and knew their rights were able to politely but firmly counter social services and whatever other entities that were trying to force vaccinations on them or their children. Vaccinations are currently "mandated" not "mandatory."
Your post is very general, so let's keep it to the subject at hand, and that's vaccination. You do have a point in the case of an epidemic the legislation is in place to force people to submit to vaccination, and the only alternative to it will be to submit to being quarantined indefinitely, which isn't much of a choice, but currently there are ways of getting out of school vaccination "requirements" without having to hire a lawyer.
And chill out O.K? There's no need to jump down my throat because I'm advising a fellow DPer who asked for advice.

I've never had children, but I've watched everyone who has a child succumb to government, and while it may not seem like force, the threat of prison makes it so, to me. I know a missionary family
that had to give up a spot in their congregation's international mission because they refused vaccination.

Vaccine Reactions Numerous
The five strains of meningococcal meningitis include types A, B, C, Y and W-135. In North America, type B accounts for 60 percent of the infections. Type C accounts for the remaining 40 percent. Last year, Britain introduced a mass vaccination program of the new meningitis C vaccine one year ahead of schedule. Doctors and nurses administered the injections to over 14 million children. So far, 7,742 adverse reactions were reported, including 12 deaths!
The number of reported reactions equals about one in every 1,800 children receiving the vaccine. The most common reactions reported were dizziness, blackouts, epileptic fits, fainting, nausea and headaches. In comparison, 5,570 reactions have been reported for the whooping cough vaccine in 37 years.
According to Isabella Thomas of the UK vaccination support group JABS (Justice Awareness Basic Support), "We are receiving daily phone calls from parents whose children have had serious reactions. The government introduced the vaccine far too quickly."
Britain’s Committee on Safety of Medicines denied reports that any of the deaths reported were attributed to the vaccine. They concluded seven deaths were due to sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), one from pneumococcal septicemia, one from bronchiolitis, one from pneumonia and two from meningitis B infections. Scientific research indicates a possible correlation between childhood vaccinations and SIDS. This vaccine does not provide protection against the meningitis B strain, the most common form of meningitis.
The long-term effects of this vaccine are not yet known. It’s recommended that individuals sensitive to mercury or other components of the vaccine should not be vaccinated. There are natural steps that can be taken to help guard against potential infection.

Just because the school sent you the note
saying it is required, doesn't mean it is required. It is common to receive this kind of "information" from a school. They are hoping you just believe it and don't dig deeper.
Try your state department of education, they might give you the correct information. There's a small chance they still won't give you the correct information so you might have to keep digging if they reiterate what the school told you.
If it's a private school, that's a whole different ball game.
