The whereabouts of Gov. Mark Sanford have been unknown to state officials since Thursday
and some state leaders are questioning who is in charge of the executive office.
Neither the governor’s office nor the State Law Enforcement Division, which provides security for governors, has been able to reach Sanford after he left the mansion in a black SLED Suburban SUV, said Sen. Jake Knotts and three others familiar with the situation but who declined to be identified.
Sanford’s last known whereabouts were near Atlanta, where a mobile telephone tower picked up a signal from his phone, authorities said.
First lady Jenny Sanford told The Associated Press today her husband has been gone for several days and she doesn't know where he is.
The governor’s personal and state phones have been turned off and he has not responded to phone and text message since Thursday, a source said.
Jenny Sanford said she was not concerned.
She said the governor said he needed time away from their children to write something.

So we have a prominent republican governor, well entrenched in the GOP, has a good name and at one point was being considered to run VP along side john mccain for 2008 campaign, perpetually building reputation to the quick glancing voting public.
And he disappears (a governor here) to travel to argentina, on the other hemisphere of the earth, abandoning family and children with generic excuses of 'needing to get away', completely evade any and all trace of detection by the greater public eye and the MSM.... all just to have an affair with some woman?
If this stands true, i NEED to see what enchanting sex appeal this woman has. i demand some pictures.
because if shes anything less than a supermodel with some amazing skills in the sack, this just sounds really bizarre.

I'll take a state rights position on this. Whether he remains governor is between the people of South Carolina and him. Since I'm not a citizen of that state, it's none of my business. He says he has wronged people, but I'm not one of them.

I hate it for them. It is bad enough when you are not in the public eye. I don't know why people cannot understand when they need to be single and get that way before they ruin everyone's lives. I think he needs to resign.

Looks like he just admitted he was away to have an affair and has resigned as head of the GOP Gov. Assoc.
This ends any chance he had at the 2012 Republican nod for President as well. If in fact he ever had a shot.

So he got away from it all for a few days. He turned his cell off, terrible! He has three young sons. That could drive you up the wall, boys being boys. He took a hike on the Appalachian Trail. I've always wanted to do that, from Georgia to Maine.
If he'd told where he was going, the reporters would have found out. He would have needed security. This way the people of South Carolina don't have to spend a lot of money protecting him.
But what if something happened? That's why they have people in the Governor's office and a Lt. Governor if necessary. I doubt this is the first time he's been out of state. If instead of going for a hike, he'd cheated on his wife everything would make sense. He was never missing, the man knew where he was. His wife wasn't worried. Only politicians make a big deal out of this.

EXACTLY! This is just more branding for Sanford for his 2012 run. MANY tea parties were held down in the South and Southerners have a long heritage of being more *conservative* than *liberal*. This stunt of hiking the Appalachian Trail, a deed that many Southerners view with respect, just feeds into Sanford's brand of good ol' boy Southerner.
He says he's ok with being branded Libertarian and wears it as a badge of honor, yet endorses McCain and agrees with Gingrich about bombing North Korea. It's just ridiculous how obvious this all is. I REALLY hope people wake up to Sanford. He will be the Reagan to Ron Paul's Barry Goldwater. Mark my words.

Reagan, I think, at least had a core of sincerity in his soul somewhere. It didn't come through in his presidency, but I don't think he was a phony poseur like so many modern Republican political leaders.
Sanford, in my opinion, is just a younger version of McCain. In any case, he has already attended Bilderberger, which brands him with a label as far as I'm concerned. That of being against constitutional government, and for globalist corruption.

Even Ron Paul has called Reagan a total failure, which he was. I don't care how much Republicans want to hold that failure of a president up as some cornerstone HE'S NOT.
We got massive deficits, a hyper expansion of the drug war, supply side economics rather than Austrian economics etc. The Dept of Education wasn't abolished. Individual liberty shrank. Basically, Reagan was just a brand like the rest of them. He took the momentum that Barry Goldwater started and ran with it. Sanford is going to do the same thing with Ron Paul's momentum. Hopefully THIS time people will be smart enough to demand the real deal rather than another brand.
Oh, I agree with the "failure" 100%.
I just think he meant well. His presidency was an absolute and utter failure.

hahaha!! My nickname actually comes from a chapter out of Ron Paul's book, "A Foreign Policy of Freedom". I wasn't ever really neoconned myself, but lots of folks I knew were. Some still are! I didn't even vote in 2000 or 2004.
As our empire is drawing to a close the branding is becoming more and more blatantly obvious to anyone with 2 brain cells. Obama hasn't accomplished nearly any of his campaign promises and the internet is making that more easily known than in previous times.
I just hope by 2012 people will be wide awake to this branding stuff but I doubt it. I get the feeling this comet is going straight into the ground. No last minute turns upward.

Never been impressed with this guy.When he was in congress he would always consult Paul as why he voted on a certain bill then went off and endorsed Mccain please do not bring this guy into the fold he would do more harm then good to the movement.
