This is exactly why we need to elect a constitutional congress to end this nonsense. Just look at the percentage of sheep that have voted YES in this poll. Help us at www.retakecongress.com

Libertarian Hypocrisy

I urge you to reconsider the language you are using in your summation. You say "...exactly why we need to elect a constitutional congress..." Who are the we? Does 'we' not include all slices of this poll? Or just 'we' who know best?

How could electing a 'constitutional congress end this nonsense'? You mean the nonsense of what half the population honestly desires? Assuming this poll is an accurate reflection of popular opinion, which considering the source I doubt, how would electing a dream team congress change popular opinion? Would such an action be just, or even possible?

Or even if surveillance is popularly opposed, what would you propose? Permanently outlawing all forms of surveillance, or just its use by the State? What about large corporations? 'Criminal' syndicates? Municipalities? HOA's? Small businesses? Average Citizens? How do you enforce it? What about foreign espionage?

If you don't like cameras on 'your street corner' is federal level action going to be effective or efficient or just? Is it ever?

Quoting the article: "With money raised from private donors and foundations, the recorders were installed and local citizens hired to keep watch...the coalition only employs civilians and does not answer to the city government." Sounds kosher to me.

Hypothetically, what if you were unjustly beaten by a law enforcement official? And he would have gotten away with it too if it weren't for those damn cameras.

Finally...

We, to use your word, are not sheep we are mankind.

P.S. I voted no.

To use your comments let's

To use your comments let's see if I can understand you properly.

So you believe that if the majority elects to do something on the local level in a community it should be ok because it is the will of the collective? ie (majority).

So the constitution is clear that our privacy should not be violated but if the people 50.1% agree that it is ok to violate your privacy and the rule of law in the constitution that is ok? Why not put cameras in public bathrooms since crimes are committed in bathrooms every day. How about your bedroom or living room? Crimes are commited in these places every day aren't they? Private citizens monitor these cameras so that should be ok shouldn't it?

"Those that would sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither."
Ben Franklin

I believe in the constitution as written by our founding fathers and your statement does not represent a constitutional republic but rather a democracy. so you claim 50.1% should be able to tell the other 49.9% what to do because that is the will of the collective and the rule of law should not apply?

Here is an idea.

What if 50.1% of the people agreed that slavery was ok? Would that be acceptable to you? 50.1% in a local community voted for it, they raised their own money to buy the slaves from private donors and the slaves are owned by civilians so this should be ok shouldn't it?

How about murder? Rape? Theft? Would these be acceptable as well because 50.1% believe it is ok even though the constitution says other wise?

The fact is we are a nation of laws not mob rule or atleast that is what we are supposed to be, that means that people that don't follow the rule of law will surely be opposed to have to abide by that rule of law unless of course, they are the victim then they cry foul and want others punished for their crime even though they have been guilty of the same crime themselves.

I believe the "WE' being talked about are people that actually honor what our founders fought and died to give us which is a constitutional republic, a nation of laws, Freedom, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness for all men and woman not the collective.

For one thing...

a Constitutional congress would be selected by and directly accountable to the sovereign states. They would not be elected by popular vote. At that point it becomes evident that the Federal government has limited control over the people since congress does not represent the people directly. That then puts state nationals under the "shield" of state government, which is somewhat more controlable. It's a start to getting the Feds out of our hair. Concomitantly you work at the state, cutting it down as well.

idiots!!

What kind of idiot could vote yes for this?

disgusted

I'm very disgusted by the amount of people willing to give up their liberty for security as shown on this poll. We may be winning, but it is by a very small margin. Please go vote if you haven't already done so. Thank you.

Cowards Will Always Give Up Their Freedoms

Now you know what the Germans elected Hitler. Cowards are always willing to sacrifice their freedom to some gangster who promises to "protect" them. It's the same here. Millions of cowards are ready to become slaves as long as they think that will make the safe.

In my opinion, these people don't deserve to be called Americans. They are the willing subjects of the New World Order.

new world order

That's an interesting statement, I wonder how many people would literally say they would like to be the subjects of The New World Order ? There should be a survay!

~ what I see is a glorious future. I've said to people for years that America is at the dawn of its Republic now, because we never had a Republic. We've been under control of the bankers the whole time. We'll get our own government and America will begin to have a history ~Eustace Mullin

Another example for the reason to continue educating Americans

My vote = NO. Here are the numbers as of 9:27 PM MST (Phoenix, AZ)

Yes 7489 (43.0%)
No 8519 (48.9%)
I'm not sure. 1426 (8.2%)

I hope to see the yes percentages decrease to less than 25% and the no percentages increase to at least 70%.

You are the only person in this whole thread who actually cited a legal principal - its referred to as "the open fields doctrine." You are absolutely correct that a person has no expectation of privacy in a public place. There have been several cases, both on the state and federal level, that go directly to this point. If the community is OK with installing cameras all over town then so long as they do not invade an area that is generally regarded as "private" (i.e. inside of a home, inside of a bathroom, etc...), there is nothing in the Constitution banning that behavior. You all need to read a few books before you go making assumptions about what the Constitution does or does not say. And to that point, if you knew anything about the legal system in America, you would know that the Constitution is interpreted by the judiciary not just strictly read word for word. If that were the case, there would be no need for the Supreme Court. It would have been impossible for the founders of our country to take into account every possible situation - so they did the best that they could in coming up with a document that so far has served this country very well."

What is your point by

What is your point by posting this? The fact is these cameras can see you in your vehicle and that is PRIVATE PROPERTY; therefor, violates your privacy.

How can we defend our rights if we don't even know what rights we have and what we are defending? Understanding the constitution is the first step.

How private can it be...

if everybody on the street can also see into your car? That argument doesn't make sense to me.

If a policeman is standing on the corner and sees you in your car, is he violating your private property? If he pulls you over and his dashboard camera records you in your car, is that violating your private property?

You may be right, but I don't see how cameras in public violate private property. I'm against them, but not for that reason. Maybe I need a better explanation, I could be wrong.

Here's What I Did In my City

Here's what I did when I noticed video surveillance cameras popping up all over my town. 2 minutes in I address the city council on the subject of the surveillance cameras.
